Unit 8 Wonderland Welcome to the unit 教学设计
I. Teaching Objectives
Learn about four fantasy stories (characters and plots) and match characters with correct plots.
Improve speaking skills by discussing fantasy stories in pairs, using a model conversation.
Share knowledge about other fantasy stories, enhancing vocabulary and communication about fantasy literature.

Sandy and Simon are talking about fantasy stories. Work in pairs and discuss what fantasy stories you know or like. Use the conversation below as a model.
Simon: Hey Sandy, do you know the book The Classic of Mountains and Seas
Sandy: Yes. It's a collection of ancient Chinese fantasy stories.
Simon: That's right. There are some stories about dragons, gods and other magical characters.
Sandy: But I only know some of the stories. Do you have the book
Simon: Yes. I can lend it to you. You'll really enjoy the stories.
Sandy: Thanks, Simon. I can't wait to read it.
What other fantasy stories do you know Share one with your classmates.

Talk about fantasy stories in pairs, using the model conversation and correct vocabulary to express knowledge and preferences.
Share knowledge about other fantasy stories, expanding vocabulary related to fantasy literature.
III. Teaching Procedures
Learning activities:
Step 1 Lead - in
Show a picture of a fantasy scene (the one in the textbook).
T: What do you think of when you hear “fantasy stories” What fantasy stories do you know Invite Ss to share their knowledge about fantasy stories. Then say: Today, we will learn about different fantasy stories and talk about them.
Step 2 Matching Characters & Plots (Activity A)
Match characters with plots
T: Sandy is listening to an introduction about four fantasy stories. Match each character with the correct plot.
Ask Ss to match:
Ma Liang - c (Uses a magic paintbrush to help poor people).
The Fisherman - d (Catches a magical goldfish and it can make wishes come true).
Peter Pan - a (Lives in Neverland, has adventures).
The Monkey King - b (Travels to ancient India with master and partners).
Then check answers and discuss each story's plot.
Step 3 Pair Work: Talking about Fantasy Stories (Activity B)
Talk about fantasy stories in pairs
T: Sandy and Simon are talking about fantasy stories. Work in pairs and discuss what fantasy stories you know or like using the model conversation.
Divide Ss into pairs. Ask them to practice the conversation first, then talk about their own known/liked fantasy stories (e.g., “Hey, do you know Alice in Wonderland Yes. It's about a girl who falls into a strange world. That's right. There are many weird characters. But I want to know more. Do you have the book Yes. I can lend it to you. Thanks, I can't wait to read it.”). Walk around to help with vocabulary and sentence structures. Then invite some pairs to share their conversations.
Step 4 Sharing Other Fantasy Stories (Activity C)
Talk about other fantasy stories
T: What other fantasy stories do you know Share one with your classmates.
Ask Ss to think of other fantasy stories (e.g., Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, Narnia) and share with the class. Encourage them to explain why they know these stories or why they like them.
IV. Assessment of Teaching Effectiveness
Assess Ss' ability to match characters with plots via Activity A answers.
Evaluate Ss' speaking skills by observing their conversations in Activity B, checking if they can use correct fantasy story - related vocabulary and express knowledge and preferences.
Observe Ss' ability to share other fantasy stories in Activity C, using appropriate vocabulary.
This lesson helps Ss learn about different fantasy stories and improve vocabulary and speaking skills related to fantasy literature.
V. Design Purpose
The lead - in activates Ss' knowledge about fantasy stories, sparking interest in the lesson topic.
Matching activity helps Ss learn and recognize characters and plots of different fantasy stories.
Pair work and sharing activities provide practice in talking about fantasy stories and personal preferences, encouraging communication and application of learned vocabulary.
VI. Blackboard Design

VII. Homework
Review the vocabulary related to different fantasy stories.
Write a short paragraph about your favorite fantasy story, using the fantasy story - related vocabulary learned.
VIII. Teaching Reflection
The activities effectively helped Ss learn about different fantasy stories. Ss showed good engagement in the pair work task. However, some Ss might need more practice in using fantasy story - related vocabulary naturally. In future lessons, more oral practice with these words can be added.
