▲Create a caring atmosphere. ▲Lead in the topic by giving guidance to students.. Step1: Lead-in Get to know the context that school will welcome some exchange students and give guidance about how to help them . Observe students’ reaction, arouse students’ interest towards such an activity aiming at helping exchange students, let students know the context of class.
▲Learn how to use modal verbs to give rules and suggestions. ▲Review modal verbs ─must/mustn’t should/shouldn’t that present rules and suggestions. Step2: Give rules and suggestions. 1. Tell them some rules and suggestions in school. 2. Can you talk about the rules with “must/mustn’t, should/ shouldn’t” 3. Can you find rules about when to use“should, must” According to students’ answers, estimate their relevant expressions of giving rules and suggestions and help students review to use modal verbs. Check if students know the usage of modal verbs.
▲Cultivate students’ ability of reading signs. ▲Teach students to give suggestions with the modal verbs. ▲Learn some signs that indicate rules and suggestions and find out their relative meanings. Step3: Talk about signs Use modal verbs to read signs on public transport, in public places and in tourist sights. Read the listening material and find out the harmful behaviors. Find out the reasons why people should obey the rules that signs indicate. According to students’ answers, estimate their ability of giving rules and suggestions. ▲Understand the definition and relative expressions of ecotourism. Step4: Complete the passage with modal verbs. Read and fill in blanks with modal verbs. Observing students’ answers to check if they understand the different meaning of modal verbs like “can”.

Here are some suggestions for the improper behaviors. Please compare and choose more acceptable one. 2. Get to know the speaking tip that suggestions can be more acceptable with the help of gentle modal verbs. Observing students’ answers to check if they understand how to use gentle modal verbs to make their suggestions more acceptable.

Step6: Find out improper behaviors and give acceptable suggestions. 1.Watch a video about table manners, and share the improper behaviors they find in the video. 2. What behaviors are not proper in the video 3. One student plays the role of exchange student, the other plays the role of Chinese student in three scenes to make a dialogue according to the checklist.
