Teaching procedures
Step1 Warming - up
1. Greet students and have a free talk. Ask students about their weekends and if they went to any public places. Lead to the topic of rules by asking if they noticed any rules in those places.
2. Show some pictures of public places, such as libraries, schools and parks.
Step2 Presentation
1. Present the Grammar Focus sentences on the PPT. Read the sentences aloud with students. Ask students to circle the words.
2. Explain the usage of the modal verbs "can" "have to" "must" "can't" and "mustn't."
Step3 Practice
1. 3a: Read the sentences. Circle the word that introduces a reason.
2. 3b: Complete the sentences using can/ have to/ must or can't/ mustn't.
3. Group work: Make rules
Divide students into groups of 4. Each group is given
a picture of public places. Encourage them to think of as many rules as possible.
Step4 Production
1. Have each group present their rules. One student from each group reads out the rules they have written.
2. Discussion: which rules do you think are the most important Why
Start a discussion and encourage them.
Step5 Summary and Homework
1. Summarize the key points of this lesson.
2. Write a short passage about the rules in your school.

Teaching reflection
In this class, we have learned some grammar rules to make sure we can make right sentences. Including the positive words and negative words. However, the substruction form has not been mastered well. So the key points should be paid more attention.
