Teaching procedures
Step1 Warming-up
1. Greet students and have a free talk with them. Did you have a good time
2. Show some pictures of different situations with rules and ask students to guess.
Step2 Lead-in
1. Ask students: Do you have many rules at home or at school What are they
2. Have a few students share their rules and their feelings about them.
Step3 Pre-reading
1. Present the title of the passage: How can rules help us
2. Ask students to predict what the passage might be about based on the title.
Step4 While-reading
1. Fast reading
Have students read Alice's letter quickly and answer the question: Why is Alice unhappy
2. Careful reading
Have students read the letters carefully again and complete the table on the blackboard. Have students work in pairs to check.
Step5 Post-reading
1. Divide students into groups of 4 and ask them to discuss the following questions: Do you think Alice's rules are too strict Why or why not
2. Role-play
Have two students act as Alice and Dr. Know. They have a conversation based on the letters and express their feelings. Other students listen carefully and give comments.
Step6 Summary and Home work
1. Summarize the key points of this lesson.
2. Assign homework: preview the next part of this unit.

Teaching Reflection
In this class, we have learned that Alice is not happy and Dr Know has given her some advice. And the advice is really helpful to the students. On the other side, When it comes to the accuracy and completion of a passage, students can't do well, so we should work more.
