Teaching procedures
Step1 Warming - up
1. Show some pictures of different animals and ask students to name them.
2. Play a short video about elephant and ask students what they think about elephants.
通过展示动物图片激发学生的学习兴趣，快速集中注意力；播放大象相关视频直观呈现主题，激活学生对大象的已有认知，自然引入本课核心话题，为后续阅读环节做情感和内容铺垫。
Step2 Pre - reading
1. Ask students to work in pairs and discuss what they know about elephants.
2. Invite several pairs to share their ideas.
采用结对讨论的形式，鼓励学生主动输出对大象的已知信息，既培养合作学习能力，又帮助教师了解学生的知识储备；通过分享环节梳理学生的零散认知，为深入阅读文本搭建认知脚手架，降低阅读难度。
Step3 While - reading
1. First reading
Ask students to read Makee's post quickly and choose the best title for it.
Check the answers and explain the reasons.
2. Second reading
Ask students to read the post again carefully and answer the following questions.
When do Thai people celebrate Thai Elephant Day
What do elephants use to carry
Invite some students to share their answers and correct them if necessary.
First reading
设计意图：通过 “快速阅读选标题” 的任务，训练学生的略读（skimming）能力，引导其关注文本核心主旨，初步把握文章主题，落实 “有效理解文章” 的学习能力目标。
Second reading
设计意图：结合具体问题开展精读，训练学生的扫读（scanning）能力，引导其捕捉细节信息（如时间、大象的行为等），帮助学生深入理解文本内容，突破 “理解文本主旨与细节” 的教学难点，同时巩固核心词汇的语境运用。
Step4 Post - reading
1. Complete the mind map.
Ask students to complete the mind map with the information from the post.
2. Group discussion.
Divide students into groups of four and ask them to discuss the following questions.
What else can we do to protect elephants
How can we raise people's awareness of protecting wild animals
Complete the mind map
设计意图：通过梳理思维导图，帮助学生系统化整合文本中的关键信息（如大象的特征、相关节日等），强化对文章结构和核心内容的记忆与理解，培养归纳总结能力，落实 “分析与概括信息” 的思维品质目标。
Group discussion
设计意图：围绕 “保护大象的措施” 和 “提高保护意识的方法” 开展小组讨论，将文本知识迁移到现实问题中，既培养批判性思维和合作探究能力，又引导学生将认知转化为行动思考，深化 “保护野生动物及其栖息地” 的文化意识，落实情感态度目标。
Step5 Summary
1. Summarize the main content of the lesson.
2. Emphasize the importance of protecting wild animals.
设计意图：通过总结本课核心内容，帮助学生梳理知识脉络，巩固所学；再次强调保护野生动物的重要性，升华课堂主题，强化情感共鸣，确保 “文化 awareness” 目标的有效达成。
Step6 Homework
Make a poster about protecting elephants.
设计意图：布置 “制作保护大象海报” 的任务，将课堂学习延伸至课外，引导学生将文本知识转化为实践行动，既培养创造力和动手能力，又通过实践深化对 “保护野生动物” 理念的认同，实现知识与情感目标的长效巩固。
