Teaching procedures
Step1 Warming-up
1. Greet the students and have a free talk about their daily life at school.
How do you feel about your school life
2. Show some pictures of students at school and ask them to guess what might be happening in the pictures.
Step2 Presentation
1. Present the topic of "school rules" by showing a picture of a messy classroom and a student running in the hallway.
What's wrong with this picture
2. Present the rules in 1a on the PPT and explain the meaning of the new words and phrases. For example:
"be late for" "on time" "in the hallways"
3. Ask students to tick the rules that their school has and then have a brief discussion in pairs.
Step3 Listening practice
1. Play the first part of the recording for 1b. Students listen and tick the rules that are mentioned.
2. Check the answers with the students and ask them to repeat the sentences.
Step4 Pair work
1. Students work in pairs to talk about the rules in 1c by using the target language.
Can Marry run in the hallway
No, she can't. She has to walk in the hallway.
2. Circulate around the classroom and offer help and guidance as needed.
3. Invite some pairs to present their conversations to the class.
Step5 Pronunciation
1. Present the words with different vowel sounds on the PPT and ask students to listen.
2. Ask students to add one more word to each group.
Step6 Summary and Homework
1. Summarize the key points of this lesson.
2. Assign homework: practise the pronunciation.
