在句中可作定语或表语。其反义词为unfamiliar“不熟悉的”
【辨】be familiar with与 be familiar to
be familiar with “熟悉……;通晓……”,主语通常是人,介词with 后的宾语通常为物,表示某人熟悉某物。 My friend is familiar with the city.我的朋友对这个城市很熟悉。
be familiar to “为……所熟悉”,主语通常是物,介词 to后的宾语通常为人,表示某事物为某人所熟悉。 These tales are familiar to Chinese children.中国小孩很熟悉这些故事。
matter v. 要紧 n. 问题
(1)[动词]要紧;事关紧要
不用于进行时。
意为“没关系”,
常用来回答别人的道歉
—I’m sorry, Bill. I took your notebook by mistake.对不起,比尔。我错拿了你的笔记本。
—It doesn’t matter. They look almost the same.没关系。它们看上去几乎一样。(云南中考)
5.No matter how long I’m away, home is always glad to see me again. 不论我离开多久,家总是很高兴再次见到我。(P17 1d)

(2)[名词]问题;事情
Is anything the matter 有什么问题吗?

no matter 不论;不要紧
此处 no matter how long 引导让步状语从句no matter 常与 what、who、when、where、how等疑问词连用( why不用于此结构),引导让步状语从句。
No matter how many difficulties we have, I believe we can solve all the problems in the end.不管我们有多少困难,我相信最终我们能解决所有的问题。(白银中考改编)
Tip:
引导让步状语从句时,“no matter+疑问词”相当于“疑问词+-ever”。

smell v.发臭;闻到 n.气味;臭味
(1)[不及物动词]发臭,有难闻的气味
The old shoes smell.这双旧鞋子很难闻。
(2)[及物动词]闻到,嗅到(气味)
