Kitty wants to learn about school life around the world. She has found some blog posts by teenagers from different schools. Here are two posts from them. Before reading, think about the questions below.

My school life is busy but interesting. I have many classes like maths, English, and Science. After school, I often take part in various activities of school clubs.
My school has a big science lab and a library. Every year, we hold a talent show where students perform dances, songs, and plays.

1. To us, learning Chinese may not be as simple as learning French or German, but I am looking forward to having a go.
(1) 分析结构:这是一个由but连接的并列句,连接两个主系表结构。
拓展:并列句是由并列连词把两个或两个以上的简单句连在一起的句子。通常有四种基本类型:
(1) 用连词and 表示并列,各成分之间没有主次之分。
(2) 使用but 表示转折,强调两个句子的对比。
(3) 使用or 表示选择,从两者中选择一个。
(4) 使用so 表示因果,强调一者是另一者的原因。
Language points
(2) 前句结构分析:learning Chinese may not be as simple as learning French or German为主系表结构,主语是动名词短语“learning Chinese”,复合谓语由“情态动词(may)+ 否定词(not)+ 系动词(be)”构成,表语为含比较结构的形容词短语“as simple as learning French or German”。
拓展:在英语中,单个动名词作主语时,谓语动词用单数;当主语是多个动名词短语并列作主语,谓语动词一般用复数。
e.g. Reading books is fun. 读书是有趣的。
Cooking and baking are my hobbies. 烹饪和烘焙是我的爱好。
(3) French 作名词,意为“法语;法国人”;表示全体“法国人”时通常与定冠词the 连用;表示一个“法国人”时,用a Frenchman。
French 作形容词,意为“法国的;法国人的;法语的”。
France 名词,意为“法国”。
(4) German 作名词,意为“德语;德国人”;意为“德国人”时,是可数名词,其复数形式是在其后加-s,即Germans;意为“德语”时,是不可数名词。
German 作形容词,意为“德国的”。
Germany 是名词,意为“德国”。
(5) as ... as... 和……一样…… not as/so...as不如……那么……
e.g. He is as tall as his father. 他和他的父亲一样高。
(6) look forward to 期待,盼望;后面常接名词或动词-ing 形式
e.g. We are looking forward to spending the weekend with you.
我们盼着和你们一起过周末。
(7) have a go 尝试,试图
e.g. I want to have a go at football. 我一直都想试试踢足球。
2. Time flies when we are enjoying school!
长难句分析:这是一个主从复合句,主句为Time flies,when 引导时间状语从句。从句主语为we,谓语为 are enjoying,school 作宾语。
(1) 本句是并列句,在 so 引导的第二个简单句中,how to survive in the face of danger 充当 teach 的宾语。
3. Japan is one of the countries with the most earthquakes in the world, so our school offers different safety programmes to teach us how to survive in the face of danger.
(2) one of + 可数名词复数 ……之一
e.g. One of the students comes from China.
学生中的一个来自中国。
(3) offer 作动词的用法是:
a. 提供;给予,表示主动提供某物或某种服务。
offer sth. to sb.=offer sb. sth. 向某人提供某物
b. 主动提出,表示自愿做某事。
offer to do sth. 主动提出做某事
c. 出价,表示在商业交易中出价购买某物。
offer + 钱数 + for sth. 以某个价格买某东西
e.g. He offered me a cup of tea. 他给我提供了一杯茶。
She offered to help me with my homework.
她主动提出帮助我做作业。
He offered 50 dollars for the bike.
他出价50 美元买这辆自行车。
作名词的用法是:
(1) 提议,表示一个具体的提议或建议,有时可翻译成“录用通知书”。
(2) 出价,表示在商业或交易中的报价,常用于动词短语make an offer,意为“报价”。
(4) in the face of 面对……
e.g. They showed courage in the face of the earthquake .
在地震面前,他们展现了勇气。
e.g. She received an offer from a famous school.
她收到了一所著名学校的通知书。
They made an offer for the contract.
他们提出了合同报价。
4. We get plenty of hands-on experience from these programmes.
plenty of 大量,相当于a lot of / lots of,后面接可数名词复数或不可数名词均可。a large number of 用于修饰可数名词复数,表示数量众多。a large amount of 主要修饰不可数名词,强调数量的巨大。
e.g. In those happy old days, there was plenty of food to eat.
在过去那些快乐的日子里,有大量的食物可吃。
He needs plenty of time to finish his work.
他需要大量的时间来完成他的工作。
There are a lot of/lots of people at the concert. 音乐会上有很多人。
A large number of students passed the exam. 大量学生通过了这次考试。
A large amount of work remains to be done. 还有大量的工作要做。
短语 pay attention to 意思是“注意”。to 后面接名词、代词、动名词或句子作宾语。特别注意该短语中的to 是介词,后面不能使用动词原形。
5. Our school also pays a lot of attention to food education.
e.g. You should pay attention to what she says.
你应该注意她所说的话。
(1) in this way 这样
6. In this way, we are more aware of the importance of a healthy diet.
e.g. Water the plants every morning, in this way they grow fast.
每天早晨给植物浇水,这样它们长得快。
(2) 句中的aware意思是“意识到,知道”,常用搭配为be aware of sth.或be aware that。
e.g. They are fully aware of the importance of protecting the environment. 他们充分意识到保护环境的重要性。

(3) importance 是不可数名词,意为“重要性”。
常用搭配:be of importance=be important 重要的
the importance of... ……的重要性
importance 是由形容词important 变化而来的。
e.g. Learning English is of great importance to my future.
学习英语对我的未来非常重要。
We should realize the importance of time.
我们应该意识到时间的重要性。
It’s important to be kind to others. 对别人友好很重要。
7. This helps us develop good habits from an early age.
develop 作“形成;获得”讲是及物动词。常见搭配:
develop a habit 养成习惯
develop 作“发展”讲既可以是及物动词也可以是不及物动词。
develop 对应的名词为development。
常见搭配:with the development of... 随着……的发展
developing country 发展中国家;developed country 发达国家
e.g. Children should develop a habit of reading before bedtime.
孩子们应该养成睡前阅读的习惯。
Our country is developing quickly. 我们的国家正在快速发展。
With the development of our country, people’s life has improved.
随着我们国家的发展,人们的生活水平提高了。
China is a developing country, while the USA is a developed country. 中国是一个发展中国家,然而美国是一个发达国家。
