Danny: Hi, Li Ming. I am working on a project about festivals and holidays around the world. I'm going to write about Chinese festivals and holidays. I think I know quite a few!
Li Ming: Really What Chinese festivals do you know
Danny: I know about the Spring Festival, the Lantern Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival, and the Double Ninth Festival.
Li Ming: Good for you. You really did your research! Those are traditional Chinese festivals. Which festival do you like best
Danny: I like the Spring Festival best. I love eating dumplings. And I like the fireworks.
Li Ming: That's a popular choice! I like to have fun with my family and friends during the Festival. Do you know other festivals or holidays

Danny: Hmm... I'm not sure.
Li Ming: Let me help you out. We have Labour Day, National Day... Oh, by the way, next week is National Day. I will have a seven-day holiday starting from October 1. I plan to go to Tian'anmen Square to watch the flag-raising ceremony.

2. I think I know quite a few!
(1) “quite adv. 相当”,表示程度,比a little强,比very弱
e.g. The movie is quite interesting. 这部电影相当有趣。
(2) “a few 少许,几个”,肯定含义,数量虽少但存在
“few 几乎没有”,否定含义,强调数量极少或不足
e.g. She has a few friends at school. 她在学校有几个朋友。
He has few books. 他几乎没什么书。
(3) “quite a few 相当多”,修饰可数名词复数
e.g. There are quite a few students in the library.
图书馆里有相当多的学生。

double ① adj. 成双的

research 作不可数名词,意为“研究;调查”。
(1) research on/into sth. 对某一具体主题或领域的研究
(2) scientific/medical/academic research 科学/医疗/学术研究
(3) do research(做)研究
(4) carry out research 开展研究
e.g. There is a lot of research on/into how languages are learnt.
有很多关于语言学习的研究。
Scientists do research to find new ways to help people.
科学家们进行研究,以寻找帮助人们的新方法。
research 既可作及物动词也可作不及物动词,意为“研究;调查”。
e.g. The students are researching how plants grow.

She always researched carefully when she wrote.

researcher n. 研究员;科研工作者
e.g. He chose to join the company as a market researcher.
他选择加入这家公司当一名市场研究员。
5. Which festival do you like best
(1) like ... best表示 "最喜欢……",相当于favourite和相当于like... the most,用于表达对事物(人、物品、活动等)的偏好。 like 是动词,意为 "喜欢";best 是副词,表示 "最",修饰动词 like。
e.g. My favourite colour is blue.
=I like blue best. 我最喜欢蓝色。
(2) 这是一个常见的英语特殊疑问句,用于询问对方最喜欢的节日。其同义句为What is your favourite festival 你最喜欢哪个节日?

help sb. out 帮助某人解决问题
e.g. She helped me out when I was in financial trouble.

7. We have Labour Day, National Day...
national 是nation(n. 国家)+ -al(形容词后缀)构成的形容词,意为“国家的,民族的”,在句中常用作定语。
类似结构词:
traditional adj. 传统的 central adj. 中心的
natural adj. 自然的 international adj. 国际的
8. Oh, by the way, next week is National Day.
by the way 意为“顺便说一下”或“顺便问一句”,用于在谈话中插入一个与前面话题稍微有些不同但又相关的新信息,或者用于转换话题。通常放在句子的开头或中间,后面接一个逗号,再跟上要说的话。
e.g. By the way, I love your new hairstyle!
顺便说一句,我喜欢你的新发型!
含way 的介词短语:(1) on the way 在途中
on the/one's way(to...) 在(去……的)路上
(2) in a way 在某种程度上 (3) in this way 用这种方法
(4) in the way 妨碍;挡道 (5) all the way 一路上;自始至终
9. I will have a seven-day holiday starting from October 1.
(1) 长难句分析:这是一个简单句。主语为I, 谓语是will have, 宾语是a seven-day holiday, starting from October 1 作后置定语。a seven-day holiday的同义表达是a holiday for seven days。
(2) seven-day adj. 七天的
复合形容词: 基数词-名词(单数)
e.g. six-month 六个月的 fifteen-minute 十五分钟的
(1) to watch the flag-raising ceremony为不定式表目的。

11. That sounds like a fantastic plan!
“sound like 听起来像是”,是用来描述听觉印象的短语,其后可以接名词、代词或动名词等作为宾语。
e.g. That song sounds like a happy melody.
那首歌听起来像是一首欢快的旋律。
The footsteps outside my window sound like they’re getting closer.
我窗外传来的脚步声听起来越来越近了。
The wind through the trees sounds like it’s whispering.
风吹过树林的声音听起来像是在窃窃私语。
结构类似但描述不同感官印象的短语还有:
(1)look like 看起来像(描述视觉印象)
(2)smell like 闻起来像(描述嗅觉印象)
(3)taste like 尝起来像(描述味觉印象)
(4)feel like 感觉像(描述触觉或心理感受)
(5)seem like 貌似(表示某种可能性或印象)
e.g. The cloud looks like a dragon. 那片云看起来像一条龙。
The cake smells like vanilla. 这个蛋糕闻起来像香草。
The soup tastes like chicken. 这个汤尝起来像鸡肉。
I feel like going for a walk. 我想要去散步。
It seems like it’s going to rain. 好像要下雨了。

“take place 进行;发生”,根据安排或计划发生
“happen 发生”,偶然或突然发生
e.g. A car accident happened last night.
昨天晚上发生了一起车祸。
The meeting will take place on the fifth of May.
