A Big Number Challenge at School
Last week, our English teacher, Mr Li, gave us a special challenge. He said, “Who can write the biggest number in English ” We all started thinking. I wrote down the number 1,234,567. I said, “________________________
____________________________________________.” My friend Tom wrote 8,900,000. He said, “______________________________.” We were all very excited.
Then Mr Li wrote a number on the blackboard: 23,456,789. He asked us to read it. I raised my hand and said, “_________________________________________________________________________.” Mr Li smiled and said, “Very good!”
Next, Mr Li asked us to solve a maths problem. He said, “If you have 3,456 apples and you give away 1,234 apples, how many apples do you have left ” I did the maths and wrote, “__________________________________ apples.”
At the end of the class, Mr Li told us a fun fact. He said, “Did you know that the Earth is about 4,543,000,000 years old ” We all said, “Wow!” I wrote it as “_______________________________________ years old”.
This English class was really interesting. I learned how to write big numbers in English and had fun with my classmates.

and thirty-four thousand five hundred and sixty-seven
Eight million nine hundred thousand
Twenty-three million four hundred and fifty-six thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine
