Starter Welcome to junior high!-Know your school教学设计
This unit, "Welcome to junior high!", serves as an introduction to the new junior high school life for Grade 7 students. It encompasses four main sub - topics: "Get ready", "Know your school", "Introduce yourself", and "Hold a party".
In "Get ready", students will learn vocabulary related to school supplies, subjects, and clothing. They will review the usage of singular and plural nouns, articles, and the simple future tense. This part helps students make material preparations for junior high school, such as organizing school supplies and choosing appropriate clothing.
The "Know your school" section focuses on vocabulary about campus facilities. By learning this, students can familiarize themselves with the new school environment and review the "there be" sentence pattern, coordinate conjunctions, and three basic sentence patterns.
"Introduce yourself" enables students to introduce their names, hobbies, and summer vacation experiences. It reviews the simple present tense, simple past tense, and the usage of adjectives, which is beneficial for students to make new friends and integrate into the new class.
Finally, in "Hold a party", students will organize a new - student party in the class. They will use the simple future tense to talk about party preparations and make plans for their junior high school life, thus enhancing class cohesion and teamwork.

教学过程
1. Warming - up (5 minutes)
Greet the students with "Hello, everyone! Welcome to junior high school!".
Show some pictures of primary school and junior high school on the PPT. Ask students: "What are the differences between primary school and junior high school ". Encourage students to share their ideas in Chinese or simple English. This activity aims to arouse students' interest and lead in the topic of junior high school life.
2. Presentation (15 minutes)
Vocabulary Teaching
Use the PPT to show pictures of school supplies, one by one. For example, when showing a picture of a textbook, say "This is a textbook. It's very important for our study. Please take out your textbook." Let students repeat the word several times. Do the same for other school supplies like "pencil case", "pen", etc.
Then, introduce subject names. Show the pictures of different classrooms or teaching scenes related to each subject. For instance, when showing a picture of a science experiment, say "This is a science class. We learn a lot of interesting knowledge in science class. Science is one of our subjects in junior high school." Let students repeat and remember the subject names.
Next, introduce campus facilities. Draw a simple map of a school on the blackboard and mark different facilities. Point to the playground and say "Look, this is the playground. We can play games and do sports on the playground." Teach other facilities such as "teaching building", "library", etc. in the same way.
Sentence Pattern Teaching
Write the sentence "This is a..." on the blackboard. Point to a student's schoolbag and say "This is a schoolbag." Then ask a student to come to the front and point to an object in the classroom and make a sentence using "This is a...".
Teach the sentence "There is/are...". Draw some simple pictures on the blackboard, like a picture with a book on the desk. Say "There is a book on the desk." Then draw a picture with some pens in the pencil case and say "There are some pens in the pencil case." Let students practice making sentences according to the pictures.
3. Practice (15 minutes)
Listening Practice
Play a short dialogue recording about students talking about their school subjects on the computer. The dialogue can be like this:
Student A: Hi, what subjects do we have this term
Student B: We have English, Chinese, maths, and science.
Student A: Great! I like science very much.
Before playing, ask students to read the questions on the PPT first, such as "What subjects are mentioned in the dialogue " and "Which subject does Student A like ". Then play the recording twice. Let students answer the questions in pairs.
Speaking Practice
Divide students into groups of four. Each group member needs to introduce themselves using the sentence patterns they just learned, like "Hello, everyone! I'm... I like... I'm going to...". They can also talk about their first impression of the new school. For example, "There are many classrooms in our teaching building. I like our school library very much. I'm going to read a lot of books there." Encourage each student to speak actively and listen carefully to others.
Reading Practice
Hand out a short passage about a junior high school student's first day at school to each student. The passage can include information about the school, the subjects, and the new classmates. Let students read the passage silently for the first time to get a general idea. Then read it again and answer some questions on the blackboard, such as "What did the student do on the first day of school " and "How did the student feel ". Ask several students to share their answers.
4. Production (8 minutes)
Writing Task
Ask students to write a short passage about their new school. They need to include at least three sentences, such as introducing one or two campus facilities, their favorite subject, and a plan for the new term. For example, "There is a big playground in our school. We can play football there. My favorite subject is English. I'm going to study hard and make more friends in the English class." Walk around the classroom to offer help and guidance when students are writing.
Sharing
After students finish writing, ask several students to come to the front and read their passages to the whole class. Other students listen carefully and can give some simple comments, like "Good job!" or "I like your plan."
5. Summary and Homework (2 minutes)
Summary
Summarize the key vocabulary and sentence patterns learned in this class with students. Write them on the blackboard again and ask students to read them together. For example, review the words of school supplies, subjects, campus facilities, and the sentence patterns "This is...", "There is/are...", "I'm going to...".
Homework
Ask students to make a poster about their new school. They can draw pictures of the school facilities and write some English sentences to introduce them. They can also add some personal information, such as their name, hobbies, and plans for the new term on the poster. They need to bring the poster to class next time and share it with their classmates.
教学反思
After this class, overall, students showed great enthusiasm in class activities. The warming - up part successfully attracted students' attention and made them actively involved in the discussion. In the presentation of vocabulary and sentence patterns, using pictures and real - life examples was helpful for students to understand and remember. However, during the practice, some students still had difficulties in using the simple future tense "be going to" correctly, especially when expressing complex plans. Also, in the speaking practice, a few shy students were not very active.
In future teaching, more targeted exercises should be designed for the difficult grammar points. For shy students, more encouragement and individual guidance should be provided to help them overcome their fear of speaking English in public. Moreover, more real - life situations can be created to let students use English more frequently and fluently, so as to better achieve the teaching objectives.
