教学过程
A. Warming - up (5 minutes)
Greet the students as usual.
Show some pictures of different hobbies on the PPT, such as a person playing the guitar, another skating, and someone taking photos. Ask students to quickly say out the hobbies they see in Chinese. Then, lead them to recall the English words for these hobbies.
Invite several students to share one of their hobbies briefly in Chinese.
B. Knowledge Review (10 minutes)
Vocabulary review
Display the key vocabulary on the PPT. Ask students to read the words aloud one by one, correct their pronunciation if necessary.
Play a vocabulary game. Divide the class into two groups. Show a picture of a hobby on the PPT, and the two groups race to say the corresponding English word. The group that says it first gets one point.
Grammar review
Write some sentences on the blackboard using the present simple tense to describe hobbies, such as "She plays the piano every day." "They like swimming in summer." Ask students to analyze the structure of these sentences, especially pay attention to the form of the verb in the third - person singular.
Give students some prompts and ask them to make sentences in the present simple tense. For example, give "he, play football" and let students say "He plays football."
C. Text Explanation and Practice (15 minutes)
Present a short passage about a student's hobby on the PPT. The passage can be like this:
"My hobby is reading. I started reading when I was six years old. I think reading is more than fun. Through reading, I can learn a lot of knowledge about different cultures and places. I also make friends with some classmates who have the same hobby. We often share our favorite books and discuss the stories in them."
Read the passage aloud first, and then ask students to read it silently. After that, ask some questions to check their understanding, such as:
What is the writer's hobby
When did the writer start this hobby
Why does the writer think reading is more than fun
Analyze the structure and useful expressions in the passage with students. Underline the key sentence patterns and new words and phrases.
Group work
Divide students into groups of four. Each group chooses one of their hobbies and writes a short passage following the example. They need to include when they started the hobby, why they like it, and what they have gained from it.
Walk around the classroom to offer help and guidance during the group work.
D. Presentation and Discussion (10 minutes)
Invite each group to choose one representative to come to the front of the class and read their passage.
After each group's presentation, ask other students to ask questions or give their comments. For example, they can ask, "How often do you do this hobby " or say, "I think your hobby is very interesting because..."
Lead a class discussion on the topic "What are the common benefits of different hobbies " Write students' answers on the blackboard, such as "Hobbies can make us happy", "They help us make friends", "We can learn new skills from hobbies" etc.
E. Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
Summary
Summarize the key points of this class with students, including the review of vocabulary, grammar, and the discussion about hobbies. Emphasize the importance of hobbies in our lives and encourage students to keep their hobbies and explore new ones.
Homework
Ask students to write a more detailed passage about their hobbies. They need to include at least 80 words and use the knowledge learned in this class.
Let students search for some information about their favorite hobbies on the Internet or in books and prepare to share it in the next class.
教学反思
In this class, through various activities such as warming - up, knowledge review, text practice, and group discussion, students' interest in learning English has been effectively stimulated. Most students actively participated in class activities, especially in the group work and presentation parts. However, there were still a few students who were a bit shy and less involved. In future classes, more attention should be paid to these students, and more ways should be explored to encourage their participation, such as giving them more easy - to - answer questions at the beginning to build their confidence.
The teaching of vocabulary and grammar was relatively smooth. The vocabulary games and grammar exercises helped students review and consolidate knowledge well. But when it came to writing passages about hobbies, some students still had difficulty in organizing their thoughts and using correct sentence structures. In the future, more writing training should be carried out, starting from simple sentence - making to paragraph writing, and more writing templates and guidance can be provided.
The group work and discussion parts achieved good results. Students learned to cooperate with each other and communicate in English. However, during the group work, the time control was not very accurate. Some groups needed more time to complete their tasks, which affected the progress of the following presentation. In future classes, more specific time limits should be set for each activity, and students should be reminded to manage their time well.
The overall teaching goal was basically achieved. Students had a better understanding of hobbies and could use English to talk and write about them to a certain extent. But to further improve students' language ability and comprehensive quality, continuous exploration and improvement of teaching methods and content are still needed.
