一、核心概念
过去进行时 表示在过去某一特定时刻或时段正在进行的动作。它强调动作在过去的持续性和未完成性。
汉语标志： “(过去)正在...”，“(过去)在...”
二、基本结构
was/were + 动词的现在分词 (V-ing)

三、主要用法

1. 过去某时刻正在发生 表示在过去某个具体时间点正在进行的动作。 at 8 o'clock yesterday, at this time last Sunday At 7 pm yesterday, I was watching TV.
2. 过去某时段持续进行 表示在过去某一段时间内持续进行的动作。 all morning, the whole day, from 2 to 4 She was writing a letter all morning.
3. 作为背景描述 为一个过去发生的动作（常用一般过去时）提供背景场景。常与when/while连用。 when, while The phone rang while I was having a shower.
4. 过去计划中的动作 表示过去按计划或安排将要发生的动作（多用于位移动词）。 --- He told me he was leaving for Beijing the next day.
四、句型结构

1、过去进行时 vs. 一般过去时
过去进行时：强调动作正在进行，未完成。
I was reading a book at 8 pm. (8点时我正在读，书没读完。)
一般过去时：强调动作已经完成。
I read a book last night. (我昨晚读了一本书，读完了。)
2、非延续性动词（如 come, go, die, arrive, leave）一般不用于进行时态，包括过去进行时。
He was arriving home at six. (误)
He arrived home at six. (正)

“过去进行时态，was/were 加 doing。
过去某刻正进行，背景描述它也行。
when 接短动，while 接长动，时态搭配要搞清。
