Audio script
Tang Li: Li Chen, what’s your favourite pet
Li Chen: I like cats best.
Tang Li: Why
Li Chen: Well, cats are really cute, and they are also clever.
Zhou Jing: But cats just lie around. They don’t do anything.
Li Chen: Oh, not all cats are like this. My cat likes to play. He even catches mice.
Tang Li: Cats are good pets. They don’t need lots of attention like dogs.
Li Chen: That’s true, and they don’t seem to need much company. When I am too busy to play with my cat, he seems happy on his own. What kind of pet do you prefer, Zhou Jing
Zhou Jing: I like hamsters. They don’t take up much space and they are fun to play with.
Tang Li: Do you have a pet hamster
Zhou Jing: Yes. She’s my best friend. She’s brown and white and has very soft fur. She makes me happy.
Li Chen: That’s nice. What about you, Tang Li What’s your favourite pet
Tang Li: I like fish.
Li Chen: Fish Why do you like fish
Tang Li: They’re easy to take care of.
Zhou Jing: But you can’t play with a fish or even hold it.
Tang Li: Well, that’s true, but I don’t think that’s a problem.
Li Chen: In fact, you can’t really do anything with a fish, except watch it. A fish doesn’t interact with you at all, does it
Tang Li: Well, maybe you are right, but I don’t have time to look after a cat or a hamster. Fish are good for busy people, and it’s really nice to watch them swim around.
Task: Ask five classmates about their favourite pets and complete the table.
