教学过程
A. Lead - in (5 minutes)
Greet the students as usual and start a short conversation to make them feel relaxed, such as asking "How are you today What did you do yesterday ".
Then play the song "Happy Birthday" for about 1 minute. After that, ask students some questions like "Do you like this song When do we usually sing this song Can you share your most unforgettable birthday experience with us ". This activity can quickly create a birthday - related atmosphere in the classroom and arouse students' interest and enthusiasm for the topic.
B. Knowledge Review (8 minutes)
Months and Ordinal Numbers Review
Write the names of the 12 months on the blackboard randomly. Ask students to read them aloud in order. Then call some students to come to the blackboard and write the corresponding ordinal numbers next to the months.
Play a small game: The teacher says a date, for example, "July 15th", and students need to quickly respond with the English expression. The one who answers correctly first gets a small reward.
Birthday - related Vocabulary Review
Show some pictures about birthday celebrations on the PPT, such as pictures of birthday cakes, candles, gifts, birthday parties, etc. Ask students to say out the English words for these items.
Conduct a word - chain game. The teacher starts with a birthday - related word, like "birthday cake". Then a student needs to say another birthday - related word starting with the last letter of "cake", for example, "candle". Keep going until no one can come up with a new word.
C. Task - based Learning (20 minutes)
Grouping (2 minutes)
Divide the whole class into groups of 4 - 5 students. Make sure the groups are well - balanced in terms of students' English levels and personalities.
Task 1: Find out birthdays in the group (5 minutes)
Each group is given a calendar. Group members ask each other about their birthdays using the sentence pattern "When is your birthday ". They write down the names and corresponding birthday dates on the calendar. The teacher walks around the classroom to provide guidance and help.
After that, each group selects a representative to report the birthday information of their group members to the whole class. For example, "In our group, Tom's birthday is on March 10th, Lily's birthday is on May 22nd...".
Task 2: Determine whose birthdays are this month (3 minutes)
Each group checks the calendar they filled in and determines which group members have birthdays this month.
They can discuss briefly about how they usually celebrate their birthdays and share their experiences within the group.
Task 3: Design a birthday celebration plan (10 minutes)
Guide each group to discuss how to celebrate the birthdays of group members this month together. They need to consider aspects such as the celebration time, place, invited people, and activities. Encourage them to use the sentence patterns in the knowledge list, like "When do we want to celebrate together Maybe on Saturday afternoon.", "Where do we want to celebrate How about in the classroom ", "Who do we want to invite Let's invite all our classmates and teachers.", "What do we want to do We can have a birthday party with games, singing, and eating cake."
Provide some suggestions and ideas on the PPT, such as different party themes, common birthday activities, and budget - friendly celebration methods. The groups can refer to these materials and add their own creativity.
D. Presentation and Evaluation (10 minutes)
Presentation (6 minutes)
Each group sends a representative to the front of the class to present their birthday celebration plan. The representative should use clear and fluent English to introduce the time, place, invited people, and activities of the celebration. They can also show some simple drawings or notes they made during the discussion.
Evaluation (4 minutes)
After each group's presentation, the rest of the class can ask some questions or give some comments. The teacher can also ask some guiding questions, such as "Do you think their plan is practical What do you like most about their plan Do you have any better suggestions ".
Then the teacher and the students jointly evaluate each group's performance from aspects such as language use, creativity of the plan, cooperation within the group, and presentation skills. Give some positive feedback and also point out areas for improvement.
E. Summary and Homework (2 minutes)
Summary
Briefly summarize the key points of this class, including the review of months, ordinal numbers, birthday - related vocabulary and sentence patterns, and the process of designing birthday celebration plans. Emphasize the importance of cooperation and creativity in group activities.
Homework
Ask students to write a short passage about their ideal birthday celebration plan at home. They need to include at least 5 sentences using the target language learned in this class.
Encourage students to share their written passages with their parents or family members and listen to their opinions.
教学反思
After this class, most students actively participated in group activities, successfully found out the birthday information of group members, and designed relatively complete and creative birthday celebration plans. During the discussion and presentation, students showed good oral expression ability and innovative thinking. However, there are still some areas that need improvement. Some students were a bit shy and less active in group discussions, so in future teaching, more encouragement and guidance should be given to these students to make them more involved. Also, during the design of celebration plans, some groups did not consider practical factors such as budget and time well enough. In the follow - up teaching, relevant real - life cases can be introduced to help students better balance creativity and practicality. In general, through this project - based learning, students not only improved their English language skills but also enhanced their cooperation ability and friendship with classmates.
