This part of Unit 5 in the 2025 - 2026 academic year for Grade 7 English textbook (People's Education Press, 2024 version) focuses on fun clubs. Section B 1a - 1d starts with students reading comments from Alice, Lin Hui, and Jack in 1a, where they share their interests and hobbies. Alice is good at telling stories and often acts them out with her brother at home. Lin Hui is interested in nature, loving hiking and being able to read maps. Jack loves great food but can't cook and wishes to cook for his family. Then, in 1b, there are club ads including a Cooking Club, a Book Club, and a Nature Club. Students need to match the students in 1a with suitable clubs in 1b. After that, in 1c, they are required to read the club ads again and extract key information like what to do in the club, where and when to meet, and who to contact to complete a table. Finally, in 1d, students discuss questions related to joining school clubs, such as the importance of joining a club and the skills or experiences they hope to gain.
教学目标 Students should be able to understand the content of the students' comments and club ads, improving their reading comprehension skills. Then ask students, "Which club do you like best Why " Encourage students to express their opinions in English. For example, students may answer, "I like the Nature Club best because I can see many beautiful plants and animals." This activity can arouse students' interest and activate their vocabulary related to clubs.
2. New Knowledge Presentation (10 minutes)
Present 1a. Let students read the comments of Alice, Lin Hui, and Jack silently. Then, ask some students to share what they know about these three students' interests and hobbies. For example, "Alice is good at telling stories and often acts them out with her brother." After that, check the students' understanding and help them learn some new words and phrases in the context, like "act out", "be interested in".
Show 1b. There are club ads including a Cooking Club, a Book Club, and a Nature Club. Ask students to match the students in 1a with the suitable clubs in 1b. Give them a few minutes to think and discuss in pairs. Then, invite some pairs to share their answers and explain the reasons.
3. Reading and Information Extraction (12 minutes)
Let students read the club ads in 1b again carefully. This time, ask them to complete the table in 1c. They need to find out key information such as what to do in the club, where and when to meet, and who to contact. While they are reading, the teacher can walk around the classroom to observe and offer help if necessary.
After students finish, ask some of them to share their answers. For each answer, ask the class whether they agree or not and let the students who have different opinions explain their reasons. This can not only help students master the key information in the ads but also improve their ability to analyze and communicate.
4. Discussion and Summary (8 minutes)
Conduct 1d. Divide students into groups of 4 - 5. Let them discuss the questions in 1d, such as "Why is it important to join a school club " and "What skills or experiences do you hope to gain from joining a club " Encourage students to use the vocabulary and sentence patterns they have learned in this class, like "I hope to learn teamwork in the club."
After the group discussion, invite some group representatives to share their group's opinions with the whole class. Then, the teacher makes a summary of this class, emphasizing the key vocabulary, sentence patterns, and the importance of joining school clubs.
5. Homework Assignment (2 minutes)
Ask students to design an advertisement for a club they are interested in. They need to include the club's name, activities, meeting time and place, and contact information. This homework can help students further consolidate what they have learned in this class and improve their practical ability.
