William Lindesay, a well-known Great Wall expert and conservationist, and his wife Wu Qi have traveled across the globe by the back paths, providing their sons Jimmy and Tommy a unique environment for personal growth.
Sunhats, backpacks, sneakers and trekking poles—these are the day-to-day must-haves of the family. This East-meets-West couple started traveling while their younger son was still a baby in 2003. Most of their trips are far from the hot spots recommended by travel guidebooks—heritage study in the Mongolian deserts, a 53-kilometer hiking tour of New Zealand, a one-day climb of three English summits and a six-day train ride from Beijing to Moscow.
“Real travel may be hard, uncertain, uncomfortable, but there's a feel-good factor when you pass a test of some kind,” Lindesay wrote in the family's newly published travel memoir Pages of Discovery.
Lindesay attaches great importance to learning out of the classroom, saying that children might score well on school tests, but that experience of the world outside, in distant lands, with different languages, scripts, political structures, and religious beliefs, is the real testing ground.
Children in this international family did not have the same pressure to perform on school tests, but they had “homework” on the road. Wu asked her sons to write travel diaries, collect tickets, draw maps and summarize travel tips. She says such habits, though they might not directly improve test scores, will pay__dividends in later life.
These experiences certainly shaped their sons' characters and influenced their chosen study at university. One read world history, the other international relations. The two brothers also share an interest in historical monuments, and the Great Wall in particular. They are now planning to follow in their father's footsteps with a new 4,500-km hike on the Great Wall.
“My parents view the world as a big classroom, and my brother and I are the biggest beneficiaries,” Jimmy says.

A.They think little of school education.
B.They believe travel provides real education.
C.They require their sons to follow their career path.
D.They don't expect their sons to perform well on school tests.
27.What does the family's story tell us
A.Roads were made for journeys not destinations.
B.No road is long with good company.
C.A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
D.It is better to travel 10,000 miles than to read 10,000 books.

In today's world of fast paced games and short videos, people are spending less and less time on things. For example, research has shown that the average visitor spends just 15 seconds on a website before moving on to other things. But the Internet is a huge and busy place, with millions of sites to choose from. You might expect people to slow down a bit more when they're in museums full of great works of art. But you'd be wrong.
Several studies have shown that the amount of time for people to spend looking at a piece of art is ten seconds. Many people may spend more time, but not much more—the average is about 28 seconds. At the Tate Modern Museum in London, it's even worse. People there spend an average of just eight seconds on each artwork. And in that short period of time, the visitors are also managing to do another important thing—take selfies!
In recent years museums have been working to change this__behavior. Today, over 170 museums around the world are celebrating “Slow Art Day”. They are asking their visitors to spend at least 5-10 minutes looking at just one work of art. Slow Art supporters believe that when visitors spend more time looking at and studying the work of art, they admire it more. Studying a work of art for more time can also help people get a better understanding of the artist's ideas and what the artist went through to create the work.
Most of the museums taking part in Slow Art Day are choosing just a few works for their visitors to see. Some of the museums are offering chances for visitors to talk about the artworks and share their ideas.
28.Generally speaking, people spend ________ on each piece of art in a museum.
A.8 seconds B.10 seconds
C.15 seconds D.28 seconds
29.What do the underlined words “this behavior” refer to
A.Taking selfies in museums busily.
B.Looking at each artwork hurriedly.
C.Admiring each artwork thoroughly.
D.Celebrating “Slow Art Day” widely.
30.Why is “Slow Art Day” created
A.To stop visitors from taking selfies inside.
B.To attract more people to visit the museums.
C.To make people spend more time on each artwork.
D.To give visitors an opportunity to relax themselves.
31.Which of the following can be the best title of this passage
A.Slow Art Day: a Fruit of Museums!
B.Museums on the Rocks: Please Advise!
C.Museums: Slow down to Admire more!
D.Museums: an Escape from the Fast-paced Life!
D
When Argentinean thinker Juan Jose Sebrelli visited Shanghai in the 1960s as part of a delegation (代表团) invited by the Chinese government, he wrote that the city seemed strangely familiar.
I was reading his writing before boarding a plane on my first trip to Shanghai in 2016. By that time, I was doing research at home on how South American writers, diplomats (外交官) and politicians had developed a new world outlook. The opportunity of my life appeared when I was told I was recommended as the first scholar at a research center co-built by a research council of Argentina and Shanghai University for an exchange program.
My first year living in Shanghai was full of discoveries and adventures. I was in a constant state of curiosity. Every day, I discovered, tried and learned something new. In other words, the city impressed me: Its modern architecture and the opportunities that Shanghai gave to everyone made me feel that this place was one of the most dynamic places I'd ever been to. I recognized that this city allowed both locals and foreigners to rediscover and reinvent themselves. The experience of being in touch with a different culture has enriched my way of looking at and thinking about the world.
After three years, my program at the joint center came to an end. But Shanghai had another new surprise for me: I got an offer to work as a professor in Fudan University, which is an opportunity that I couldn't refuse. Gradually, I regarded Shanghai as my second home and I fully understood the meaning of Sebrelli's writing one day walking through my favorite spots of the city on Wuyuan Road and Wulumuqi Road. Several places made me have a__strange__feeling:__The combination of Art Deco buildings and local stands on the street created an image of my homeland. At that moment, I understood that this city, as Sebrelli wrote, “is now a part of myself.”
32.Why does the author mention Juan Jose Sebrelli

B.To stress the close Argentina-China bond.
C.To introduce his own experience in Shanghai.
D.To show respect and admiration for Sebrelli.
33.What did the author come to Shanghai to do
A.Teach in a university.
B.Join in a program.
C.Develop a new outlook.
D.Lead joint research.
34.How does the author find Shanghai
A.It's curious and strange.
B.It's dynamic and fast-paced.
C.It's inclusive and instructive.
D.It's modern and highly developed.
35.What does the underlined phrase “a strange feeling” refer to in the last paragraph
A.The sense of identity.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Winter break was approaching, and all Scott wanted to do was go snowboarding. Unfortunately, Scott's parents had different plans. They had booked a weeklong tropical cruise (热带船游). Scott hated warm weather and asked if he could just stay at his best friend's house so he could snowboard every day at the local mountain. His parents didn't want to hear anything of it. He kept debating with them about the topic, but they would not change their minds. Family time was important to them, and it was tradition that they spend winter break together.
The week of the cruise arrived, and Scott continued to mumble (咕哝) his complaints as he and his family left their house to head south. Scott's dad told him that he would only make the vacation worse for himself if he didn't change his attitude and open his mind to a new experience. Scott still couldn't stop thinking about all of the snow he was leaving behind.
When they arrived at the port to board the ship, Scott had a hard time admitting that he was actually impressed with the size of the ship. He had seen the brochures but seeing the ship in person was a whole different animal. Then he remembered that the brochure said something about a surfing pool. Maybe surfing would be somewhat like snowboarding. After all, it involved riding a board.
Scott climbed aboard the ship with his parents, and then they walked around to check everything out. He couldn't believe how fancy the accommodations were. The dining room looked like a royal hall; the game room had all of his favorite games; the ship's deck (甲板) had several different swimming pools for different purposes. Then Scott saw the surfing pool. It was incredible. It wasn't a big pool, but it had big waves, and the young man who was demonstrating how to ride the waves made it look like a ton of fun.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
Scott asked his parents if he could try surfing. Gradually, Scott began to love the cruise.

When I was young, my uncle would tell me about all of his experiences traveling around Europe by bicycle. Despite he completed several trips around the UK, he never had the chance to accomplish his main goal of biking across Asia to China. Now, he has several injuries and a busy work schedule. He cannot ride with me, but he's inspired me to complete this dream. Furthermore, he has all of the knowledge of routes to help me ride across Asia. Once the summer starts, I'll leave my house in France, my job as a restaurant server, and my friends and family to start my trip. It'll be sad to say goodbye to my parents and to quit my work, but this once-in-a-lifetime trip will make it all worth it. Riding through Europe during the summer will be comfortable and easy, so having company won't be necessary. But I do worry about being in Central Asia during the winter, so I plan to have my cousin join me for a few months. There will be too much snow to bike anywhere, so we've arranged to get jobs there. Luckily, there are many popular ski fields, so getting seasonal work won't be too difficult. Once warmer weather comes, my cousin will fly home and I'll continue my journey alone. I'll continue my riding all the way to China, where my dad will meet me in Beijing. Then we'll ride together to complete the bicycle trip to Shanghai.

注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
Scott asked his parents if he could try surfing. Gradually, Scott began to love the cruise.
Scott asked his parents if he could try surfing. They said, “Of course.” And much to Scott's surprise, they wanted to try surfing too. When Scott and his parents had their swimsuits on, Scott's dad went first and only lasted about five seconds before he wiped out. Then it was his mom's turn. She actually made it longer than his dad did. When it was Scott's turn, he was excited but a little bit nervous. He hopped on the board and took a stance similar to his snowboarding stance. Then the waves started. It felt similar to snowboarding but different at the same time. On his first ride, Scott rode for almost 30 seconds before wiping out. He was crazy about it though.
Gradually, Scott began to love the cruise. He got to know the people who often surfed there q(共110张PPT)

When I was young, my uncle would tell me about all of his experiences traveling around Europe by bicycle. Despite he completed several trips around the UK, he never had the chance to accomplish his main goal of biking across Asia to China. Now, he has several injuries and a busy work
schedule. He cannot ride with me, but he's inspired me to complete this dream. Furthermore, he has all of the knowledge of routes to help me ride across Asia. Once the summer starts, I'll leave my house in France, my job as a restaurant server, and my
friends and family to start my trip.
18.Where will the speaker start his trip

Wu asked her sons to write travel
diaries, collect tickets, draw maps and summarize travel tips. She says such habits, though they might not directly improve test scores, will pay dividends in later life.

But Shanghai had another new surprise for me: I got an offer to work as a professor in Fudan University,
which is an opportunity that I couldn't refuse. Gradually, I regarded Shanghai as my second home and I fully understood the meaning of Sebrelli's writing one day walking through my favorite spots of the city on Wuyuan Road and Wulumuqi Road. Several places made me have a strange feeling: The combination of Art Deco buildings and local stands on the street created an image of my homeland. At that moment, I understood that this city, as Sebrelli wrote, “is now a part of myself.”

The dining room looked like a royal hall; the game room had all of his favorite games; the ship's deck (甲
板) had several different swimming pools for different purposes. Then Scott saw the surfing pool. It was incredible. It wasn't a big pool, but it had big waves, and the young man who was demonstrating how to ride the waves made it look like a ton of fun.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
Scott asked his parents if he could try surfing.﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍
Gradually, Scott began to love the cruise.﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍
He got to know the people who often surfed there quite well. By the time the weeklong cruise was over, Scott had new friends he planned to keep in touch with. Scott is the brave and lucky one since only eight percent of the experiencer or so really fell in love with it among a lot of the passengers who tried surfing the first day of the cruise. With a new hobby, and great memories, he apologized to his parents for his previous moaning and groaning and told them it was his best vacation ever.
