During the training, you will learn to put out small fires, conduct light search and rescue, assist those who are injured, set up medical treatment areas, assist emergency responders, identify possible dangers and help reduce survivors' stress. You can also take the Introduction to the CERT training. This independent web based study is interactive and will introduce you to CERT skills before you take the classroom training.21.How can Teen CERT help in the school A.By organizing rescue teams.B.By helping set teaching aims.C.By raising money for survivors.D.By sharing fire safety knowledge.22.What does the training program teach A.How to detect potential dangers.B.How to make medical devices.C.Outdoor survival skills.D.Communication skills.23.What is the purpose of the text A.To introduce a program that focuses on medical treatments.B.To raise money for disasters and emergencies.C.To introduce a charity organization.D.To call on teens to join in a program.BCPR saves lives. It can really change someone's life, as I found out for myself three years ago.On October 14 three years ago, my mom had an accident while playing soccer and was taken to hospital. The next morning, I was told that my mom had had a cardiac arrest I later learned that two players on the opposing team kept breathing air into my mother's mouth and pressing her chest for seven minutes, as they waited for the ambulance to arrive. My mom stayed in the hospital for only ten days. I know that I am very lucky to have my mom here, because most people who have cardiac arrests and do not receive CPR within the first six minutes die.My mom has used this experience to spread the word about CPR. She joined the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Support Group, which was set up to help survivors and their families through a difficult experience. The support group also takes part in the Heart Walk every year, raising money for the American Heart Association. And she attends Lobby Day each year, convincing the New York State Legislature to pass a law that would make basic CPR and first aid training a graduation requirement for high school students. This task is not as difficult as it may first appear to be. Every student in New York State must take health class in order to graduate. Just one or two days of health class each year will ensure that every student in the state will learn this important skill. This training is also nearly free. There is no need for a professional CPR instructor because the American Heart Association has online videos that show the newest techniques in CPR. Also, most local EMS services will lend training models to schools. My mom and her fellow survivors go to a high school each year to talk to the students about the importance of learning CPR. This training will not get you the official CPR certification (证书), but as my mom says, “You don't need a little card to save someone's life.”24.How does the author feel about the two players A.Deeply grateful. B.Quite concerned.C.A bit sorry. D.Rather frightened.25.In what way did the author's mother change A.She made efforts to improve CPR.B.She realized the key importance of law.C.She paid more attention to her health.D.She became an active CPR supporter.26.What does Paragraph 4 say about the CPR training for students A.It may be turned down by a lot of students.B.It requires little time and money.C.It will become a graduation requirement.D.It is difficult and dangerous.27.What might the author's mother agree with A.It is challenging for many students to master CPR skills.B.Every graduate should get an official CPR certification.C.CPR skills are more important than CPR certifications.D.High schools should make a special card for CPR learners.COn August 5 just after 7:30 pm, Mike Estepa suffered a massive heart attack. The crazy cyclist was 40 kilometres into his Sunday ride when he stopped by the side of the road to text his family saying he'd be home in about 30 minutes. Moments later, he was lying in the ditch, unconscious.Larissa Arthur was driving back to Calgary from a hike in Field, B.C. with a friend. It was a warm and sunny day, and the two were chatting when a flush of yellow caught Arthur's eyes, she immediately pulled off the road.As Arthur approached the figure, she feared the worst: Estepa was covered in ants and exhibited no signs of life. “There was no pulse and he wasn't breathing,” says Arthur. A bystander called 911 and Arthur, a registered nurse, started chest compressions. She and two other drivers took turns carrying out CPR for the next 15 minutes before medical teams arrived and whisked Estepa away. Two days later, when Estepa woke up in the hospital, he was shocked to learn he had gone into cardiac arrest. How did this happen, and, why was he lucky enough to have survived He was full of gratitude and needed to speak with the woman who had saved him, whom he named his “angel”.“It was emotional,” says Arthur of her meeting with Estepa a few weeks later. Saving his life had extra importance for her: the bike she was returning from that day was one of 100 she's planned to honour her father, who died in 2017 after he fell during a hike that Arthur was meant to be on. “I couldn't save my father's life,” Arthur says, “but this was a chance for me to save someone.”28.Why did Mike Estepa stop while riding A.He suffered a heart attack.B.He wanted to send a message.C.He would like to lie in the ditch.D.He was too far away from his home.29.What do we know about Arthur A.She was an amateur nurse.B.She was scared of ants.C.She knew how to do CPR.D.She went cycling with a friend.30.What did Arthur think of her saving Estepa A.Grateful. B.Lucky.C.Significant. D.Natural.31.What's the best title of the text A.A Miracle to Return to LifeB.An Angel on the RoadsideC.A Risky Cycling AloneD.A Chance to Save LifeDHundreds of people die at sea every year due to ship and airplane accidents. Emergency teams have little time to rescue those in the water because the probability of finding a person alive falls dramatically after six hours. Beyond tides and challenging weather conditions, unsteady coastal currents often make search and rescue operations extremely difficult.New insight into coastal flows gained by an international research team led by George Haller, Professor of Nonlinear Dynamics at ETH Zurich, promises to enhance the search and rescue techniques currently in use. Using tools from dynamical systems theory and ocean data, the team has developed an algorithm (算法) to predict where objects and people floating in water will go. “Our work has a clear potential to save lives,” says Mattia Serra, the first author of a study recently published in Nature Communications. In today's rescue operations at sea, complicated models of ocean dynamics and weather forecasting are used to predict the path of floating objects. For fast-changing coastal waters, however, such predictions are often inaccurate due to uncertain boundaries and missing data. As a result, a search may be launched in the wrong location, causing a loss of precious time.Haller's research team obtained mathematical results predicting that objects floating on the ocean's surface should gather along a few special curves (曲线) which they call TRansient Attracting Profiles (TRAPs). These curves can't be seen with our eyes but can be tracked from instant ocean surface current data using recent mathematical methods developed by the ETH team. This enables quick and precise planning of search paths that are less sensitive to uncertainties in the time and place of the accident. In cooperation with a team from MIT, the ETH team tested their new, TRAP-based search algorithm in two separate ocean experiments near Martha's Vineyard, which is on the northeastern coast of the United States. Working from the same real-time data available to the Coast Guard, the team successfully identified TRAPs in the region in real time. They found that buoys and manikins (浮标和人体模型) thrown in the water indeed quickly gathered along these emerging curves. “Of several competing approaches tested in this project, this was the only algorithm that consistently found the right location,” says Haller.“Our results are rapidly obtained, easy to interpret and cheap to perform,” points out Serra. Haller stresses: “Our hope is that this method will become a standard part of the tool kit of coast guards everywhere.”32.In a search and rescue operation, ________.A.the survival rate drops to almost zero after six hoursB.the use of dynamics leads to the wrong locationC.weather conditions are a determining factorD.changing currents present a challenge33.What is the distinct feature of the new algorithm A.It relies on ocean dynamics.B.It tracks the path of the curves.C.It stops the uncertainties of the accident.D.It figures out how tides change over time.34.Paragraph 5 mainly talks about ________.A.the collection of dataB.the testing of the algorithmC.the identification of the TRAPsD.the cooperation of two research teams35.What is the best title for the passage A.Why Success Rates of Rescue Operations Have Fallen B.Why Algorithms Are Popular in Rescue Operations C.How Mathematics Can Save Lives at Sea D.How Coastal Waters Affect Saving Lives My friend James did some first aid training last week to learn the fundamentals of the CPR. And he asked if I'd ever done the same.“Yes,” I said, “... and no.”Because, yes, I've attended several resuscitation (复苏) sessions over the years. __36__ In fact, despite being shown all the key information at various points in my career, I don't think I can remember any of it now. What's the problem Every time I've had this type of training, it's been a perfectly good opportunity to learn: an important topic, taught well, in a focused environment, with plenty to see, hear and do. I've always taken it seriously, too, and been focused. And I've always come away with a wealth of information. __37__Here's what I should have done—and what you can do now—to make sure any training doesn't go to waste. __38__ You might be surprised to find that you've got some foundations of knowledge to build on. Pre testing sparks your curiosity and puts you in a frame of mind to remember. Challenge your recall later. __39__ If it's hard to remember, but just about possible with effort, then that's perfect. You need that little bit of struggle to start embedding (把……嵌入) information in your brain. Keep coming back. Put a note in your diary to test yourself again in a week, then ten days after that, then a month on ... leaving longer gaps between checks. __40__Talking to James has inspired me to book myself onto yet another CPR course. But this time I'm determined to do it right. Remember that it's the next day when the real training begins.A.Test yourself before you start.B.Wait a day, then see how much you still know.C.Stay curious about what you are eager to know.D.All the basic information has stuck in your mind.E.But no, I don't exactly feel “trained” to save lives.F.Yet virtually nothing has ever made it to my long term memory.G.Use the questions you wrote on the day to keep challenging yourself. On July 30, Ralph Harms, 78, was out on the golf course with his son Joe and friend Doug Green. When William learned Victor lived in a simple wooden house there for years, he laughed at him with his friends. Then, they passed by an entrance to a cave. William wanted to explore inside the cave, but his teacher didn't allow it. “I'll come back here,” he thought. On the way back to school, he remembered the exact location of the cave. The next day, William asked his four friends to the cave together. They told their parents they would go to the library and return home in the evening. None of the teenagers told their parents about their plan to visit the cave. When the teenagers reached the cave, they left their school bags outside to reduce the burden. One by one, they entered the cave. Just when they took a few steps inside, some rocks from the cave wall fell and blocked the entrance.“How are we going to get out now?” one of the teenagers Sarah shouted. William had an idea and said, “Maybe we can try digging through the fallen rocks with our hands to reach the entrance.” But realizing getting out of the cave only by their hands was impossible, they had great fear. The sun was about to go down. The teenagers started calling for help, but nobody could hear them. The teenagers were losing hope.Victor happened to pass by the entrance to the cave, and five school bags caught his attention. He also heard some sounds coming from inside the cave. “Who's in there?” Victor shouted.“I'm William! We came here yesterday with our teacher!” William replied instantly. “Help us, please! We are stuck! Sarah can't breathe here because of fear.”“Okay, calm down, children!” Victor said. “I'll help you get out!” Victor immediately called the first aid center and rushed home. At this early hour there wasn't much traffic and there weren't many people in sight. Just as I was crossing the road near the top of the hill a car came around the corner. It was traveling very fast and the driver was obviously having difficulty in controlling it. Suddenly it went off the road, hit a lamp post and turned over. At once I ran to the car to help the driver, but he was seriously hurt. A young woman hurried into the station and called the First Aid Center while I took care of the driver. This training will not get you the official CPR certification (证书), but as my mom says, “You don't need a little card to save someone's life.” 24.How does the author feel about the two players A.Deeply grateful. “I couldn't save my father's life,” Arthur says, “but this was a chance for me to save someone.” 28.Why did Mike Estepa stop while riding A.He suffered a heart attack.B.He wanted to send a message.C.He would like to lie in the ditch.D.He was too far away from his home. 根据第一段中的“he stopped by the side of the road to text his family”可知, Mike Estepa停下来是为了给家人发信息。故选B。29.What do we know about Arthur A.She was an amateur nurse.B.She was scared of ants.C.She knew how to do CPR.D.She went cycling with a friend. 根据第三段中的“Arthur, a registered nurse ... the next 15 minutes”可知,Arthur知道如何实施心肺复苏术。故选C。30.What did Arthur think of her saving Estepa A.Grateful. Haller stresses: “Our hope is that this method will become a standard part of the tool kit of coast guards everywhere.” 32.In a search and rescue operation, ________.A.the survival rate drops to almost zero after six hoursB.the use of dynamics leads to the wrong locationC.weather conditions are a determining factorD.changing currents present a challenge答案:D解析:细节理解题。 D。33.What is the distinct feature of the new algorithm A.It relies on ocean dynamics.B.It tracks the path of the curves.C.It stops the uncertainties of the accident.D.It figures out how tides change over time. B。34.Paragraph 5 mainly talks about ________.A.the collection of dataB.the testing of the algorithmC.the identification of the TRAPsD.the cooperation of two research teams答案:B解析:段落大意题。 B。35.What is the best title for the passage A.Why Success Rates of Rescue Operations Have Fallen B.Why Algorithms Are Popular in Rescue Operations C.How Mathematics Can Save Lives at Sea D.How Coastal Waters Affect Saving Lives 答案:C解析:标题判断题。通读全文,尤其是根据第二段中的“the team has developed ... and people floating in water will go”可知,文章主要介绍了如何使用数学算法在海上挽救生命。 My friend James did some first aid training last week to learn the fundamentals of the CPR. Thank you![精彩范文]Good morning! It is important for us to learn some knowledge about first aid in our daily life. If a person has an accident, he needs medical care before a doctor can be found. Therefore, it is necessary that we know how to give the wounded proper first aid measures. Knowing knowledge about first aid will help us make good judgments. With the help of correct first aid measures, we can alleviate the sufferings of the patient. What's far more important is that we can reduce the possibility of disability and save lives.Life is precious. To save lives, everybody should know some first aid skills in case we meet an emergency some day.Thank you! “Wow, these trees are so tall!” William shouted excitedly, while walking with his classmates in a forest near his school. They were on a field trip to the forest as part of a science lesson.Over there, they met the forester (护林人), Victor. After a little while, Victor got back to the entrance with a shovel and a flashlight. “Hey! I'm back!” he shouted, assuring the kids that he would rescue them. Then, he began digging through the rocks at the entrance. It wasn't easy for one man to do it, but he was trying his best. Meanwhile, William and his friends tried to stay calm and told Sarah not to worry. A few minutes later, William and his friends could see the flashlight shine through the cave's entrance, which made them excited.Soon, the teenagers walked outside the cave and took a deep breath in the fresh air. Fortunately, Sarah felt better. Just then, medical workers arrived and examined the children carefully to make sure they were OK. William looked at Victor who was worn out and regretted making fun of him when they first met. He apologized to the great forester and thanked him for rescuing him and his friends. Later, the teenagers' parents arrived and were grateful to Victor for his timely rescue. Also, the teenagers promised their parents they wouldn't lie and take such a dangerous adventure again.27(共104张PPT)WELCOME UNIT第五单元检测卷时间:120分钟 满分:150分较易题(占比60%) 中档题(占比30%) 拔高题(占比10%)题型 听力 阅读 七选五 完形 填空 语法填空 应用文写作 读后续写A B C D 难度 ★ ★ ★ ★ ★★ ★ ★★ ★ ★★ ★★★第一部分第二部分第三部分第四部分目录CONTENTS1234第一部分第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分)第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分)听下面5段对话。 Text 11.Where will the woman probably go for her vacation this year A.France. This training will not get you the official CPR certification (证书), but as my mom says, “You don't need a little card to save someone's life.” 24.How does the author feel about the two players A.Deeply grateful. Working from the same real-time dataavailable to the Coast Guard, the team successfully identified TRAPs in the region in real time. Haller stresses: “Our hope is that this method will become a standard part of the tool kit of coast guards everywhere.” 32.In a search and rescue operation, ________.A.the survival rate drops to almost zero after six hoursB.the use of dynamics leads to the wrong locationC.weather conditions are a determining factorD.changing currents present a challenge解析:细节理解题。 D。33.What is the distinct feature of the new algorithm A.It relies on ocean dynamics.B.It tracks the path of the curves.C.It stops the uncertainties of the accident.D.It figures out how tides change over time. B。34.Paragraph 5 mainly talks about ________.A.the collection of dataB.the testing of the algorithmC.the identification of the TRAPsD.the cooperation of two research teams解析:段落大意题。 B。35.What is the best title for the passage A.Why Success Rates of Rescue Operations Have Fallen B.Why Algorithms Are Popular in Rescue Operations C.How Mathematics Can Save Lives at Sea D.How Coastal Waters Affect Saving Lives 通读全文,尤其是根据第二段中的“the team has developed ... and people floating in water will go”可知,文章主要介绍了如何使用数学算法在海上挽救生命。 My friend James did some first aid training last week to learn the fundamentals of the CPR. When William learned Victor lived in a simple wooden house there for years, he laughed at him with his friends. Then, they passed by an entrance to a cave.
