Sink or swim
成败全凭自己
动词sink意为“下沉；沉没”，习语sink or swim隐喻一种要么沉沦、要么自己努力以求生存的处境，可译为“不自救，必沉沦；成败全凭自己；自生自灭”或“不管成败如何”，如：
Sink or swim, I’ll try.
不管成败如何，我都要试一试。
He was left by his family to sink or swim by himself.
他的家里人让他靠自己在人世间沉浮。

我能做到吗？
习语make it意为“达到预定目标；做到，办成；成功”等，如：
The climbers finally made it to the top of the mountain.
登山者终于到达了山顶。
He wants to make it as a writer.
他想作为作家而一举成名。
My heart pounded in my ears.
我的心怦怦直跳。
pound此处作动词，意为“（心脏等）狂跳，怦怦地跳”。pound in one’s ears是常见搭配，可直译作“听到心脏在耳中怦怦搏动的声音”。又如：
Her heart was pounding with excitement.
她激动得心脏怦怦直跳。
His head was pounding.
他的头部在突突作痛。
My body tensed up like a spring while I was waiting.
我的身体像弹簧一样紧绷着等待开赛。
“while+过去进行时”构成一个时间状语从句，表示在某个时间段正在做的事，此处表示“在等待的那段时间”。like a spring是一个明喻，将紧张的身体状态比作压缩的弹簧。动词短语tense up同tense，意为“（使）绷紧，紧张”，又如：
Oral exams always tense him up.
口试总使他很紧张。
She tensed, hearing the strange noise again.
再次听到那个奇怪的声音，她紧张起来。
I sprung forwards, diving into the water, and kicked.
我猛地向前一跃，跳入水中，再用力一蹬。
sprung是动词spring的过去式，意为“跳；跃”。diving into the water是现在分词短语作结果状语，表示向前跳跃这个动作的结果。又如：
She fell off the chair, hurting her arm.
