五、阅读理解
In our daily lives, good interpersonal (人际的) communication skills are very important. They help us make friends, get along with classmates, and work well with others. Here are some useful tips to improve your communication skills.
● Remember others’ names. When you meet someone new, try to remember his name. You can repeat the name in your mind or connect him to something. For example, if you meet a boy named Tom wearing a black cap, think “Tom in a black cap”. Using their names later shows you care.
● Find suitable topics. Start with simple things like the weather, “It’s rainy. Do you like the rain ” or sports, “Did you see the football match The winning goal was great!” News or a funny joke can also work. Find something both of you like.
● Be a good listener. When someone talks, put away your phone, look at them, and nod sometimes. This shows you are interested and makes them feel respected (受尊敬的) . People will like talking to you if you listen well.
●Keep smiling. A warm smile can make communication easier. When you meet someone especially for the first time, smile sincerely. It shows you are friendly and helps break the ice.
●Be honest. Honesty is a key to good relationships. Always tell the truth. If you don’t know something, just say so. No one likes a dishonest person.
● Keep your promise. If you promise to meet a friend, please be on time. If you need to change plans, tell them early. People will trust you more.

Host: As we know, the British have been sending cards since the 19th century. They spend about 1,700,000,000 pounds on cards every year. However, the number of people sending cards and letters is falling. More than 30 percent of UK children have never sent or received a handwritten letter. Should the tradition of sending cards and letters be stopped
Group A:
We live in a fast-developing world and using snail mail is unnecessary. Making paper uses lots of energy and some cards are hard to recycle. It’s bad for the environment. What’s more, cards are expensive to buy and so is posting. Nowadays, we usually use our phones and computers because they are quick, easy and free. Traditional cards and letters are out of date. They are not young people’s cup of tea. It’s no surprise that most of them end up as litter. Group B:
The tradition has been around for hundreds of years and should stay. Sending a handwritten letter or carefully chosen card shows that you care. Phone messages and emails are quick and easy, but they seem to carry less feeling. Sending letters is good for children because it is a chance to practice writing skills. Also, it’s fun! Receiving post makes you feel special and it’s important if someone lives far away or is lonely—just imagine a birthday without cards!
