Franklin had only two years of education in his childhood. But his love of learning was already strong. This early interest led him to teach himself a lot later.
Franklin taught himself by reading a lot of books he borrowed. He also learned by doing his own experiments, like when he studied storms. His way of learning is really inspiring. It shows his self-motivation and determination.
From his story, we can learn that we should always have a thirst for knowledge. We should be curious about the world and not be afraid to explore and learn on our own. Also, we should use our knowledge to help others, just like Franklin did by letting people use his inventions for free.

3. As one of 17 children in a big family, Franklin had only two
years of education before he had to start working.

(1)长难句分析:这是一个主从复合句。从句是由While 引导的时间状语从句,省略了主语he 和be 动词was。主句主语是Franklin,taught himself 表示“自学”,by reading a lot 是方式状语,说明“自学”的方式。

(3) in order to 意为“为了”,表目的,后接动词原形,可放在句首或
句中,其否定形式是in order not to。in order to 相当于so as to,但so as
to 不能置于句首。so as to 的否定形式为so as not to。in order that 意为
“目的是,为了”,后接从句,可以与in order to 进行同义转换。
e.g. I go to bed early in order to wake up on time in the morning.
为了早上能按时醒来,我早早上床睡觉。
I got up early in order not to/so as not to miss the train.
为了不错过火车, 我早早就起床了。
He studied hard in order that he could pass the exam.
= He studied hard in order to pass the exam.
为了能通过考试,他努力学习。
(4) return 作及物动词,意为“归还”,相当于give back,常见用法:return sth. to sb. 把某物还给某人。
e.g. I borrowed this car from my brother, so I have to return it to
him tomorrow.
我从我哥那里借了这辆小汽车,所以我明天就得还给他。
动词return 作“回来;返回”讲时的用法:
① return to+ 地点名词,意为“返回某地”。
② return from+ 地点名词,意为“从某地返回”。
e.g. Tom will return to Beijing tonight.
今晚汤姆将返回北京。
My father will return from London next month.
下个月我父亲将从伦敦返回。
6. Curious about the world around him, Franklin once became interested
in studying storms.
curious adj. 好奇的,既可作表语也可作定语,其名词形式是curiosity,意为“好奇心”。out of curiosity 出于好奇;be curious about sth. 对某事感到好奇;be curious to do sth. 渴望做某事;好奇地想做某事;It’s curious that... ……很奇怪
e.g. I’m curious about how the machine works.
我对这台机器如何工作感到好奇。
She is curious to know the secret. 她渴望知道这个秘密。
It was curious that he didn’t show up at the party.
他没有在晚会上出现,这很奇怪。
He opened the box out of curiosity.他出于好奇打开了那个盒子。
7. Then he found out that storms moved from one place to another.
