We can add the suffix -er, -or and -ist to certain words to create nouns that describe people who do a specific job or activity.

Sometimes we need to change the ending of the verb/noun when we add the suffix:
dance → dancer win → winner
piano → pianist science → scientist
e.g. Benjamin Franklin was a man of many talents. When he was a young man, he worked as a printer and kept developing his skills as a writer. He was also an inventor and made many useful things for daily life. Moreover, Franklin was a scientist, and many of his findings played an important role in the history of science.
1 -er 后缀
(1) 职业或行为者
用在动词或名词后，表示从事某类职业或执行特定动作的人。 teacher（教师，源自 teach）； driver（司机，源自 drive）； farmer（农民，源自 farm）。
后缀-er ， -or 和-ist
(2) 比较级
用于形容词或副词，表示程度或速度的增强。taller（更高的，源自 tall）； faster（更快的，源自 fast）。
2 -or 后缀
(1) 职业或行为执行者
多源自拉丁语动词词根，强调专业性身份或主动执行动作的主体。actor（演员，源自 act）；inventor（发明家，指主动创造发明的人，源自invent）。
(2) 工具或抽象功能
部分词汇既可指人，也可指工具或抽象功能。conductor（导体/ 指挥，源自conduct）；detector（探测器/ 检测人员，源自detect）。
3 -ist 后缀
(1) 职业或专业身份
表示从事特定职业或具备专业技能的人，强调专业性或系统性知识背景。scientist（科学家，源自science）；violinist（小提琴家，强调乐器演奏的专业性，源自violin）。
(2) 理念或信仰
表达对某种思想或主义的支持，常见于政治、哲学语境。socialist（社会主义者，源自social）；nationalist（民族主义者，源自national）。
