1. Warming - up (5 minutes)
Greet the students as usual.
Show some pictures of different schools on the PPT, and ask students: “What can you see in these pictures Can you point out the playground, the library and the classroom ” Encourage students to answer in English. This activity can arouse students' interest and review some related words they learned before.
2. Presentation (15 minutes)
New Words Teaching
Show pictures of “playground”, “library”, “classroom building”, “lab building” on the PPT one by one, and teach the new words “playground”, “library”, “building”, “lab” while showing the pictures. Read the words for students several times, and let them read after the teacher, paying attention to the pronunciation.
Explain the usage and some related expressions of the new words. For example, for “borrow”, explain the phrase “borrow... from...”.
Use some simple sentences to help students understand the new words, such as “We play football on the playground.” “I like reading books in the library.”
Sentence Patterns Teaching
Show a picture of the school playground and say, “This is the playground. We play sports here.” Teach the sentence pattern “This is...” and let students imitate to introduce other places.
Then show a picture of the school library in the distance and say, “That is the school library. We read and borrow books there.” Teach the sentence pattern “That is...” and ask students to practice.
Present the text on the PPT, and let students listen to the recording of the text carefully while following the words. After listening, ask students to read the text in groups, and then invite some groups to read it aloud in front of the class.
3. Practice (10 minutes)
Match and Talk
Let students do the exercise of matching the words with the pictures in the textbook. After that, ask them to talk with their partners about what they do in these places. For example, “A: What do you do in the classroom B: I have classes and do my homework in the classroom.” Walk around the classroom to monitor and offer help if necessary.
Fill in the Blanks
Show some sentences on the PPT with blanks, such as “Welcome ______ our school.” “Let me show you .” “We play sports ______ the playground.” “ is the library.” Ask students to fill in the blanks with the correct words or phrases they just learned. Check the answers together.
4. Production (10 minutes)
Group Work
Divide students into groups of four. Each group is required to draw a simple map of their school, and then use the learned words and sentence patterns to introduce the school to their group members. For example, “This is our classroom building. We have classes in it. In front of the classroom building, there is a playground. We play sports there. Look at that building. It looks like a book. That is our library. We can borrow books from it.”
Each group chooses a representative to come to the front of the class and introduce their school map to the whole class. The other students listen carefully and can ask questions if they have any.
Role - play
Set a situation: Suppose a new student comes to the school. One student acts as a guide and the other acts as the new student. The guide shows the new student around the school using the learned expressions. Let several pairs of students perform in front of the class.
5. Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
Summary
Summarize the key points of this lesson with students, including new words, phrases and sentence patterns. Ask students to recall and repeat them. For example, review the words “everyone, around, building, borrow, lab”, phrases “welcome to, show... around, play sports, in front of, look at, look like, turn around” and sentence patterns “This is... That is...”.
Homework
Ask students to write a short passage to introduce their school, using at least five sentences. They can use the words and sentence patterns learned in this class.
Let students make a video to introduce their favorite place in the school and send it to the teacher through the learning platform.
教学反思
After this class, generally speaking, most students can master the new words and basic sentence patterns related to school facilities, and can use them to introduce the school in a simple way. The teaching methods such as using pictures, group work and role - play can effectively arouse students' interest and participation.
However, there are also some problems. Some students still have difficulties in correctly using prepositional phrases like “in front of” and “in the front of”. In future teaching, more specific examples and exercises can be designed to help them distinguish. Also, during the group work and role - play, a few students are a little shy and not very active. In the following classes, more encouragement and guidance should be given to these students to make them more confident in speaking English. In addition, the time control in group work can be further optimized to ensure that each group has enough time to fully express and share.
