教学过程
A. Warming-up (5 minutes)
Greet the students as usual.
Show some pictures of different club activities, such as a drama club performing on stage, a swimming team training in the pool, a music club playing instruments, etc. While showing the pictures, ask students some simple questions, like "What can you see in this picture " "Do you know what kind of club it is " "Have you ever joined any clubs " This can arouse students' interest and lead in to the topic of club recruitment in this lesson.
B. Pre-reading (10 minutes)
Vocabulary Teaching
Present the new words one by one on the PPT. Explain the meanings, pronunciations, and usages of each word. For example, when teaching "acting", show some pictures of actors and actresses performing, and say "Acting is what actors and actresses do on stage or in movies. They show different characters through acting." Let students repeat the word several times to practice the pronunciation.
For words with more complex usages, like "improve", give more examples. "We should try our best to improve our English. The environment in our city is improving day by day." Encourage students to make their own sentences using these new words to deepen their understanding.
Prediction
Show the titles of the two club recruitment posters on the PPT, "Welcome to the Acting Group" and "Join Our Swim Team". Ask students to predict what information might be included in these posters. Guide them to think from aspects such as club activities, advantages, meeting times, and joining methods. Let students share their predictions in pairs first, and then invite some pairs to share with the whole class. This can activate students' prior knowledge and get them ready for reading.
C. While-reading (15 minutes)
Fast Reading
Give students two minutes to quickly read the two posters. Ask them to find out the main idea of each poster, like what kind of club it is and what it mainly offers. After reading, ask students to raise their hands and share their answers. For example, for the "Welcome to the Acting Group" poster, the main idea is that it is an acting club, and it offers opportunities to learn acting, meet new people, and improve social skills.
Careful Reading
Let students read the posters carefully again. Distribute a worksheet with a table to each student. The table has columns such as "Club Name", "Advantages", "Meeting Time", "Meeting Place", and "Joining Method". Ask students to read the posters and fill in the table with relevant information. Walk around the classroom to monitor students' reading and filling process, and offer help if necessary.
After students finish filling in the table, check the answers together. Select some students to come to the front of the class and show their filled tables on the projector. Let other students check and correct if there are any mistakes. This activity can help students improve their reading comprehension ability and the ability to extract key information.
D. Post-reading (10 minutes)
Group Discussion
Divide students into groups of four. Give each group a discussion topic: "If you could create a new club in our school, what kind of club would it be and why " Ask each group to discuss and make a simple plan for their club, including club name, activities, advantages, meeting time, and place. Each group member should contribute ideas and write them down.
Walk around the groups to listen to their discussions and offer guidance. After about five minutes, ask each group to choose a representative to come to the front of the class and introduce their club plan to the whole class. Encourage other groups to ask questions and give suggestions. This activity can not only help students review and apply the knowledge they have learned in reading, but also cultivate their creativity and team cooperation spirit.
Language Points Explanation
Write some important sentence patterns and language points on the blackboard, such as "You can meet many new people and improve your social skills." "Everyone can learn to act." "If you would like to be one of us, please fill in the form and give it to Mary Brown on a weekday." Explain the grammar and usage of each sentence pattern in detail.
For the conditional sentence "If...", emphasize the "main clause - imperative sentence, if - clause - simple present tense" structure. Give more examples like "If you want to get good grades, study hard." "If it rains tomorrow, we will stay at home." Let students make their own sentences using this structure and share them with the class.
E. Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
Summary
Summarize the key points of this lesson with students, including new words, phrases, sentence patterns, and the main content of club recruitment posters. Review the important knowledge points again to strengthen students' memory.
Ask students to share what they have learned and what they think is the most interesting part of this lesson. This can help students reflect on their learning process and improve their learning efficiency.
Homework
Ask students to write a short passage to introduce a club they are interested in. They should include at least three aspects, such as club name, activities, and advantages. This can further improve students' writing ability.
Encourage students to actually join a club in their school or community if possible, and share their experiences in the next class. This can connect classroom learning with real life and enhance students' interest in learning English.
教学反思
In this lesson, the use of pictures in the warming - up part successfully attracted students' attention and aroused their interest in club activities. However, in the future, more interactive ways can be added, such as asking students to share their own experiences in clubs briefly.
During vocabulary teaching, although various methods were used, some students still had difficulty in remembering and using new words correctly. In the following classes, more vocabulary - related exercises and review activities need to be designed to strengthen students' memory.
The group discussion activity in the post - reading part was quite successful. Students actively participated and showed great creativity. But in some groups, there were a few students who dominated the discussion, while others participated less. In the future, more attention should be paid to ensuring the equal participation of each student in group activities.
The explanation of language points was clear, but some students still had problems in applying them in writing. More writing exercises related to these language points should be arranged to improve students' language application ability. Overall, this lesson achieved most of the teaching objectives, but there is still room for improvement in teaching methods and student participation.
