I sat on the sidelines with my 14-year-old son, Nathan, who was hardly enthusiastic to be at a community Christmas party for little kids. He was too old to care about Santa, the guest of honor. Meanwhile, Santa was being surrounded by the excited children.
“Look, Nathan,” I gave him a little push. “Mrs. Claus is trying to get your attention.” Unwillingly, he followed me over.
“What do you want for Christmas ” Mrs. Claus asked him. “Well, I like Legos, and I need a new tennis racket. But what I really can't wait for is a 3D printer.” Nathan wanted to start an online business making cell phone cases.
Mrs. Claus brightened. “My grandkids are clamoring for a 3D printer too. They have a pet duck named Tim,who’ s missing a leg. The grandkids want to make Tim a prosthetic(假肢) and attach it with a Velcro strap(魔术贴).”
“Cool project,” Nathan said. He thought for a minute. “I' ll make him one for free, but it won't be ready for Christmas. My parents and I worked out a deal. They' re going to invest in my business with a loan, but I have to save up some of the money myself. I' ll make Tim's leg as soon as I can afford a printer.”
Two weeks later, Nathan opened his 3D printer. His eyes lit up. After weeks of practice, Nathan made his first plastic leg for Tim, but the strap didn't hold when the duck moved. Nathan didn't give up. He made a second one. This time, Tim flapped(拍打) his wings and made loud noises when they put it on. The third one worked better —Tim took a few steps. The grandkids cheered, happy that Tim could finally experience what it was like to walk on two legs.
This Christmas, Nathan’ s 3D printer brought more than tech skills— it brought the joy of helping. We’ d made an excellent investment.

Children can never have too many people looking out for them, which is why having a strong relationship with their grandparents can be necessary to their happiness and success in adulthood.
When children have a relationship with their grandparents, it gives them access to more trusted adults who they can turn to when they' re in trouble or if they don't feel comfortable going straight to their parents. For example, if a child and a parent are having trouble communicating or are constantly getting into arguments, a grandparent could be the perfect outlet for the child. Grandparents know their own children the best and could have the best solution to the issue.
It's also common for children to have a different level of respect for their grandparents. Oftentimes, if a child refuses to listen to their parents, all it takes is a conversation with a grandparent to set them on the right path. Also,if children are able to witness what a healthy child-parent relationship looks like by seeing their own parents and their grandparents as the example, it may encourage even stronger relationships for the whole family.
While children can gain a lot from this relationship, it has also been proven that the relationship between grandparent and grandchild can be beneficial for both sides. For grandparents, spending time with their grandchildren can help boost brain function, which means less depression, better short - and long-term memory, and improved communication skills.
Another added benefit of a grandchild-grandparent bond is the knowledge and skills that are passed down from generation to generation. Grandparents love to talk and children love stories, so whether its family traditions, personal stories or folktales being passed on, this bonding activity of storytelling can be beneficial to both the children and their grandparents.
28. How do grandparents help troubled kids
A. By preparing for arguments. B. By providing trusted guidance.
C. By punishing their parents. D. By offering financial support.
29. What can we infer from paragraph 3
A. Grandparents provide education and modeling.
B. Children show less respect for their grandparents.
C. Children work hard for a stronger family relationship.
D. Grandparents fail to set their grandchild on the right path.
30. What benefit do grandparents gain from the relationship
A. Regular physical activity. B. Formal skill training.
C. Improved mental health. D. Reduced communication pressure.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Healthy Relationship in Old Age B. The Power of Grandparents
C. The Storytelling Across Generations D. Memory Improvement for the Elderly
D
Researchers from the Faculty of Data and Decision Sciences at the Technion have developed a technology capable of identifying various aspects of a reader's interaction with a text that is based only on their eye movements.
The team's findings were presented at Association for Computational Linguistics (语言学), a conference in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP) in Vienna. The research was led by doctoral student Omer Shubi, together with master's student Cfir Hadar, under the direction of Dr. Yevgeni Berzak.
People read texts with different goals. Whether it's a novel, a cooking recipe, a newspaper article, or a scientific paper, each type of text can be approached with various intentions. Two common reading goals are general comprehension(regular reading) and information search.
The researchers developed computational models that combine eye-tracking with text processing. These models can accurately detect a reader's purpose with about 90% accuracy, and nearly 80% accuracy within just two seconds from the moment the reading started.
According to Dr. Berzak, “This study is part of a broader research program in which we are developing AImodels that infer, in real time and from eye movements alone, key aspects of the reader's linguistic knowledge, their interaction with the text, the difference between a first and a second reading, the readability of a given text, and even the specific information the reader is seeking.
“These studies pave the way for new methods in assessing linguistic knowledge, personalizing texts according to the reader's linguistic and reading ability, improving accessibility to textual information for various populations, and more.”
Eye-tracking technologies are becoming increasingly widespread, affordable, and accurate, with some now available on common devices like iPads and smartphones. The researchers hope these developments will speed up the adoption of their models, benefiting both users and content providers in fields such as education, government, and media.
32. What is the main function of the Technion's technology
A. To track eye movements for medical research. B. To analyze reading purposes via eye-tracking.
C. To develop new smartphone applications. D. To replace traditional text processing methods.
33. Which of the following best describes the computational models
A. Reliable and efficient. B. Accurate but slow.
C. Creative and simple. D. Imaginative but limited.
34. Who would benefit most from the research
A. Struggling readers. B. Online advertisers.
C. Textbook developers. D. Language teachers.
35. What enables the wider use of the technology
A. New government education policies. B. Students' preference for iPad learning.
C. Media companies’ need for eye-tracking ads. D. Advancement in consumer-ready eye-tracking.

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I' ve always loved the mountains, and my latest adventure was the Rupin Pass journey in the Indian Himalayas—a tough but amazing one. This high-altitude(高海拔的) track takes you through remote villages, thick forests, and snowy ridges(山脉), showing some of the most beautiful views in the Himalayas.
There's something special about hiking with friends, facing challenges while surrounded by nature's beauty.Every step brings something new —— icy rivers, tall cliffs, and friendly shepherds (牧羊人) with their sheep. The best moment came when we finally reached Rupin Pass(4,650 meters), looking out at the endless mountains ahead.
But it wasn't easy. On the second day, I got sick from the high altitude. My head hurt, my legs felt heavy, and every climb made me dizzy. I had to stop often, struggling to catch my breath while my backpack weighed me down. By the time we reached our shelter for the night —— a small family-run hotel with ground-level toilets, spiders, and no showers——I was completely exhausted.
While the others drank tea, I sat outside, feeling frustrated and weak. My head still ached from the altitude, and my legs felt like they were made of stone. I stared at my dirt y hiking boots, feeling completely defeated. For the first time on this journey, I seriously considered turning back —— maybe I could ask a local guide to help me return to the nearest village in the morning. But then I looked around —— the snowy peaks turned golden in the sunset, wild horses ran through the fields, and a river shone far below. It was so beautiful that I knew I couldn't give up.
The hotel owner was really nice. He gave me hot water and some medicine. He also suggested that I bring some oxygen just in case, and I did so, which turned out to be life-saving.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
A good night's sleep helped me recover——I woke up ready to hike again.
It was at the top of Rupin Pass that I felt breathless again.
