A
请阅读下面短文,从每小题所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出一个最佳选项。
English has been popular for many years. But for many learners learning English is not easy, but don’t worry. We have some suggestions for you.
Firstly, some second language students don’t walk around with grammar books in their pockets; they carry dictionaries. Good second language learners, writers, speakers, and listeners have a large vocabulary under their control. Second language researchers are starting to understand that grammar isn’t the most important part of second language study; vocabulary is the key to learning a language.
But which words should students learn English has a very large vocabulary. In a language like English, even native speakers know only parts of all the words. Second language learners need to realize that they will never learn all the words, so they need to spend their time learning the most useful ones.
Secondly, reading is helpful in learning a second language. Reading improves students’ speaking, writing, grammar, and vocabulary skills. Grammar, writing and speaking will improve because students are meeting examples of correct English by reading in English. Students who read a lot learn what is correct and what is not correct.
Improving second language skills requires extensive reading (泛读). Extensive reading requires reading widely all the time—at least 30 minutes a day. Students read things that interest them. However, the important point is that it should be easy enough to enjoy.
14. How many suggestions does the writer give
A. Two. B. Three. C. Four.
15. In the writer’s opinion, what is the key to learning a language
A. Grammar. B. Vocabulary. C. Speaking.
16. What does the underlined expression “native speakers” mean in Chinese
A. 本族的语言 B. 说外语的人 C. 说母语的人
17. What kind of reading material is the best
A. It is the one with a large new vocabulary.
B. It is the one that should be interesting and easy enough to enjoy.
C. It is the one that English learners can read as they like.
18. What is the article mainly about
A. It’s about the best way to learn English.
B. It’s about vocabulary being more important than reading.
C. It’s about how to learn English well and easily.
B
请阅读下面短文,从每小题所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出一个最佳选项。
I have been learning English for five years. I am glad that I am good at it.
I find English very interesting, but quite difficult. When I first started, I thought I had only to remember new words and learn some grammar. I thought each English word had a word with the same meaning in Chinese. When I learned to say “I see a book on the desk”, I thought the English word “see” was just like the Chinese word “kan”. So one day when my teacher asked me, “What are you doing ” I answered, “I’m seeing a book.” “That’s wrong,” the teacher said. “You aren’t seeing a book. You are reading a book. You can’t use an English word like a Chinese one. Be sure not to make the same mistake again.”
After that I began to pay more attention to the differences between Chinese and English. For example, in English we say, “Listen to me carefully, and you can hear me clearly.” In Chinese we use the same word “ting” for both. So studying English doesn’t only mean hard work; it can be great fun, too! We not only have to pay attention to pronunciation, grammar, spelling and handwriting, but we also have to understand English idioms.
No matter how difficult it is, I’ll try my best and work even harder than before. I must speak and listen to English more. I must read and write more, too. I must learn English well so that I can work well when I grow up.
19. What did the writer think of learning English at the beginning
A. Learning English is the same as learning Chinese.
B. Remembering new words and grammar is enough.
C. In some ways it’s different from learning Chinese.
20. What mistake did the writer make when he started learning English
A. He was seeing a book.
B. He thought each English word had a word with the same meaning in Chinese.
C. He didn’t listen to the teacher.
21. How can we study English well according to the passage
A. We can study English well only by remembering lots of words.
B. We can study English well if we understand the grammar.
C. We should study not only words and grammar but also English idioms.
22. What does the underlined word “idioms” mean in Chinese
A. 单词 B. 习语 C. 句型
23. What is the writer’s purpose in studying English
A. To go to foreign countries.
B. To teach English in a school.
C. To help with his work.
C

Maybe you’ve just started learning a new language. Maybe you’ve been studying to pass exams or to get the job you want in the future. Maybe you’ve reached a point where you feel like you’ve got a good enough understanding of grammar but not enough vocabulary to put together a sentence and a conversation easily. ____24____
Firstly, it is advisable and realistic (现实的) to limit yourself to just a few new words a day. ____25____ Put it this way, if you learn 10 new words every day, that’s 70 new words in a week, 300 per month and 3,650 per year! That’s quite a wide vocabulary.
Secondly, it is important to strengthen your learning by studying and memorizing vocabulary and using it as much as possible. ____26____ If you are reading a book and frequently come across words you don’t understand, this can help enrich your vocabulary and make you really understand them.
Lastly, techniques such as word maps and word lists work well, especially if you want to study just one topic, but you have to remember the phrase “easily remembered, easily forgotten”. ____27____ It is often easier to learn words within a certain sentence, as you are able to make links between them and remember some more easily than others.
A good example is the word “book”, as when you look at a book, you have the title, publisher, image, thickness, author and then, of course, whether it is hardback or paperback. So try to find links in the text you are reading.
Pace (缓慢而行) yourself and remember that learning a language is a marathon, not a fast run—you can’t learn everything in one go! ____28____ Therefore, hope you become a smart learner.
A. And a good learner knows how to learn.
B. Because practice makes perfect.
C. You should know that many a little makes a mickle (多).
D. That’s to say, you should put words into a sentence or a passage.
E. Only remembering vocabulary is enough to learn a language
F. Regardless of what stage you’re at, these ways of learning vocabulary will help you make progress!
D
请阅读下面短文,根据语篇内容,在方框内的缩写文章中,填入与短文意思最符合的单词,每空一词。
