Text 1
W: It’s surprising that Frank comes out of the accident alive.
M: That’s true. His car was a total loss, you know.
Text 2
W: I’m really fed up with the computer. It had another system failure today.
M: I’d better get someone to fix it as soon as possible.
Text 3
M: My chest hurts, and I’m having a hard time breathing. Maybe I should take some aspirin.
W: Come on, honey. I’m driving you to the hospital. You need to get checked out right away.
Text 4
M: Could you come to our evening party tomorrow
W: I’d like to. But it’s a great pity that I have something more important to do then.
Text 5
W: Can I use your car I’m going to pick up my parents at the train station.
M: All right. Here is the key.
Text 6
W: Excuse me, do you know where the owner of this car is I seemed to have scratched their car.
M: This red Toyota here They just left. I think I saw them heading towards the grocery store. Did you back into it carelessly
W: I opened the door to put my bags in the back, and my shopping cart rolled down the hill into the red Toyota.
M: That’s unfortunate. Too bad that the car wasn’t black like mine. You wouldn’t even be able to see the scratch on my car.
W: I’d better leave them a note, anyway. They can decide whether or not to do anything about it.
Text 7
M: Hi, Kate! Why are you dancing I thought we had to study for our maths test!
W: Oh, hi, Bill! I was just exercising. It’s my favourite way to get relaxed. I thought you would arrive later. Let me turn the music off.
M: OK. When it comes to exercise, I prefer playing soccer.
W: Sports like jogging and playing balls are good ways, but I'd like to dance better. Do you sometimes do it
M: Yes, but I am not a good dancer. Oh, my team won the final last week.
W: Cool! I know you go to the gym to practise every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
M: You’re right. It’s hard work, but it is worth doing.
W: I see. If it weren’t for the maths test tomorrow we could hang out right now.
M: Right. No more fun and games. Let me get my notebook.
Text 8
W: Peter, what things do you enjoy spending money on
M: Well, I’m a big football fan. So when I don’t have much schoolwork, I watch matches. What I really like spending money on is the ticket for football matches.
W: What do you think teenagers in your country spend their money on
M: I think it really depends. I guess girls spend more money on clothes and magazines while boys spend money on music and things like football matches. In general, though, I think both boys and girls spend a lot of money just on going out to places and having a good time.
W: Do you have a favourite shop
M: I’m not interested in shopping, actually. But there is a shop I really enjoy going to. It’s a sports shop and what I really like about it is just to wander round and see all the clothes and equipment they sell. I can’t afford them. They are expensive.
W: What’s shopping like in the area where you live
M: I guess the shopping must be pretty good, because my mum and dad do all the shopping nearby. They always say it has fresh vegetables and good food.
Text 9
W: It was a great day today.
M: Yes. I wish I had gone to the park with you by subway, though. There were so many traffic jams this morning, and I thought the bus would never get there on time.
W: Well, you did make it.
M: What did you think of the restaurant
W: Well, it was much better than I expected.
M: Do you think so It was a bit small and airless there. Anyway, this afternoon was great. I loved the film. That was the most exciting part of the trip for me.
W: I couldn’t agree more. I enjoyed the tour afterwards almost as much. You know, when we went around that exhibition of musical instruments from the past, the guide was really good. I was just sorry we didn’t have the chance to go to the top floor of the museum.
M: Me too. How about going back there during the holidays
W: I’d like to, but I’m going to be very busy catching up with my papers. I’d really rather wait till after the holidays.
M: Okay.
Text 10
M: Hello, this is Principal Johnson with the morning announcements. Our usual reader Timmy is out sick today, so I’m reading in his place. I hope you’ve all had a great start to the week! This Monday has started out warm and sunny, so let’s hope it stays that way. I know we’ve had some strange weather in the last few weeks. We have just one month of school left before summer break, so make sure you’ve turned in all of your homework. The last day to turn in an assignment is Friday, May 20th. The last boys’ baseball game will be held at 6:00 pm this Wednesday. Please show up to support the team! If you’ve had problems using the computers in the library, they should be fixed by Thursday. We’re sorry for any trouble this may have caused. This evening, the girls’ softball team will be playing their last game, and over the weekend, the basketball team is playing McKinney School on Saturday afternoon. That’s it for the morning announcements. I hope everyone has a great Monday!

根据文章第一段“This unique opportunity combines the timeless beauty of traditional crafts (工艺) with the accessibility of modern technology, allowing you to explore the attractive art of Turkish mosaic lamps from the comfort of your home.”
根据文章第三段“Their guidance will ensure you learn the techniques, inspire creativity in you, and help you overcome any crafting challenges.”
根据文章最后一段“If you’ve missed your scheduled class, no worries! According to our rules, you can easily join the next available workshop.”
根据文章第一段“She survived three and a half horrific years by caring for soldiers who were far worse off than she was. Focusing her energy on serving others under the most difficult circumstances was the only way she survived.” 故选A项。
根据文章第三段“Every time Jane painted a heart, it was open, and when there were two or more, they were always connected.”
根据文章第四段“When Signet Jewellers, the world’s largest retailer(零售商)of diamond jewellery, learned of this story, they approached her about creating a line of jewellery with the Open Hearts symbol.”
根据文章最后一段“What started as a cause marketing campaign has grown into a movement of like-minded people working together for the greater good. Over sixty charities have been supported by the Foundation and thousands of volunteers have been inspired to do what they can to help others through virtual and in-person volunteer experiences.”
根据第一段中“But sometimes we behave in ways we wouldn’t expect when encountering a situation we are unsure about. Research from the British Heart Foundation has suggested that a third of people would not perform first aid if they saw someone collapse on the street, with some even admitting they wouldn’t call an ambulance.”
根据第三段“There are various factors contributing to this effect—people think that others will get involved or intervene. Afterwards people often say they did not feel qualified or senior or important enough to be the one to intervene. It is also partly down to ‘pluralistic ignorance’—since everyone is not reacting to the emergency, they don’t need to either; it’s not serious because no one else is doing anything.”
根据最后一段“Self-awareness is the best antidote to it. When encountering an emergency, think to yourself how you would behave if you were on your own. Ignore everyone else and how they are behaving and go with your instinct (直觉)—if you’d call an ambulance, do it. If you’d run for help, do it. If that’s how you would have behaved when you were on your own, then that’s probably the right course of action.”
根据第二段中“This has been termed the ‘bystander effect’—a well-known psychological phenomenon that individuals are less likely to offer help to someone when other people are present. The more people there are, the less likely they are to help.”及最后一段中“If you’d run for help, do it. If that’s how you would have behaved when you were on your own, then that’s probably the right course of action.”
根据第二段“In it, players take the role of the Destined One, setting off for adventures to collect six relics that once belonged to Sun Wukong and challenge the Celestial Court.”(在这款游戏中,玩家将扮演“天命人”,踏上冒险之旅,收集曾属于孙悟空的六件法宝,并向天庭发起挑战。)
根据第三段“Drawing on a rich heritage of nearly 1,000 years of Chinese culture, the game’s storyline and characters have proven difficult to understand for many players from Western countries. For instance, a player shared on social media that their lack of familiarity with Journey to the West led to them consistently missing hidden treasures, finally resulting in repeated failures during a boss fight in Chapter 2. Meanwhile, some players feel overwhelmed by names like Erlang Shen and Lingxuzi, which can be difficult to pronounce for those unfamiliar with Chinese phonetics.”可知,画线词后面的these cultural divides指的是由于对中国文化不熟悉,西方玩家对故事情节和角色难以理解;再由画线词后面的“…these cultural divides, one enthusiast wrote a 200-page outline detailing Sun Wukong’s abilities across all 100 chapters of Journey to the West.” 故选A项。
Meanwhile, some players feel overwhelmed by names like Erlang Shen and Lingxuzi, which can be difficult to pronounce for those unfamiliar with Chinese phonetics.”(这款游戏借鉴近千年的中国文化丰富遗产,但它的故事情节和角色对许多西方国家的玩家来说很难理解。

Dear George,
Here is some exciting news to share with you. With the intention of enriching our school life, last week, our school introduced a new course called “Labour Experience”, which aims to provide students with hands-on experience in various types of work.
We launched a campaign, Beautiful Campus, where students did some cleaning and planted colourful flowers. Then a labour base was set up for students to experience growing, picking and harvesting. Through these activities, we learned teamwork and improved problem-solving competence.
I hold the belief that it’s a unique and valuable experience. Hereby I sincerely invite you and your participation will be highly appreciated.
Yours,

One possible version:
However, only with seconds of hesitation, I looked around and saw a life jacket. I put on the life jacket and jumped into the water without delay. The sea was rough, and the waves kept crashing over me, making it hard to swim towards the girl. I could feel my strength draining away, but I pushed on, determined to save her. When I finally reached her, I grasped her hand firmly. It took all my effort to pull her up and keep her head above the water. I did all I could to bring her to the shore.
Exhausted, we laid our bodies on the sand. The girl looked at me with gratitude in her eyes and said, “Thank you so much for saving my life. I can’t imagine what I would have ended up without your help.” I smiled and replied, “It’s okay. I’m just glad I could help.” Then, I heard the sound of waves rushing to the shore and the water was running up on the sand, filling in the gaps of my toes. It was not until I experienced this event that I realized I should learn to swim well, not only to keep myself safe but also to help others.

Jane Seymour, co-founder of the Open Hearts Foundation, has always been inspired by her mother’s advice—that love has no boundaries and flows unconditionally. That advice originated from Jane’s mother’s experience as a survivor of World War Ⅱ. She survived three and a half horrific years by caring for soldiers who were far worse off than she was. Focusing her energy on serving others under the most difficult circumstances was the only way she survived.
Jane was greatly impacted by her mother’s story. When faced with her own personal challenges—losing her home and being nearly broke—Jane used her last bit of money to have an artist draw her children. At her home, the artist saw some of Jane’s paintings, and offered her free art lessons. It was then that she discovered her unique talent for art, which led to a series of positive influences in her life, including a new career, new passions, and the inspiration for the Open Hearts Value.
Every time Jane painted a heart, it was open, and when there were two or more, they were always connected. This distinctive image represents the Open Hearts Value, and was the beginning of her journey to encourage people to turn their personal challenges into an opportunity to help others.
When Signet Jewellers, the world’s largest retailer (零售商) of diamond jewellery, learned of this story, they approached her about creating a line of jewellery with the Open Hearts symbol. That business partnership sold billions of dollars of jewellery and started the charitable beginning of the Open Hearts Foundation. Jane’s vision was to create a foundation that encouraged people to help others and provided immediate funding to small, new charities that shared the same values.
What started as a cause marketing campaign has grown into a movement of like-minded people working together for the greater good. Over sixty charities have been supported by the Foundation and thousands of volunteers have been inspired to do what they can to help others through virtual and in-person volunteer experiences.

None of us like to think we’d walk on by when someone needs our help. But sometimes we behave in ways we wouldn’t expect when encountering a situation we are unsure about. Research from the British Heart Foundation has suggested that a third of people would not perform first aid if they saw someone collapse on the street, with some even admitting they wouldn’t call an ambulance. This can sometimes mean that no one helps when someone desperately needs it. However, a lot of tragic events urge us to take immediate action.
One of the most famous examples of this is the tragic case of Kitty Genovese who was fatally stabbed (刺,捅) in Kew Gardens, New York, in 1964. Follow-up investigations concluded that several people saw or heard what was happening, but did nothing to intervene. This has been termed the “bystander effect”—a well-known psychological phenomenon that individuals are less likely to offer help to someone when other people are present. The more people there are, the less likely they are to help.
There are various factors contributing to this effect—people think that others will get involved or intervene. Afterwards people often say they did not feel qualified or senior or important enough to be the one to intervene. It is also partly down to “pluralistic ignorance”—since everyone is not reacting to the emergency, they don’t need to either; it’s not serious because no one else is doing anything.
Self-awareness is the best antidote to it. When encountering an emergency, think to yourself how you would behave if you were on your own. Ignore everyone else and how they are behaving and go with your instinct (直觉)—if you’d call an ambulance, do it. If you’d run for help, do it. If that’s how you would have behaved when you were on your own, then that’s probably the right course of action.
( )28.According to the first paragraph, what would some people do when someone needs help
A.To behave in proper ways.
B.To rush to give a hand.
C.To give immediate first aid.
D.To hesitate to intervene.
( )29.Which of the following statements about “bystander effect” is correct
A.It is a rare psychological phenomenon.
B.People are unwilling to help for lack of qualification.
C.Someone will step in when more people are gathering.
D.It results from “pluralistic ignorance” to some degree.
( )30.What does the underlined word “antidote” in the last paragraph mean
A.Devotion. B.Introduction.
C.Solution. D.Resistance.
( )31.What is the best title for the text
A.Don’t be a bystander
B.Stay away from emergencies
C.Raise awareness of first aid
D.Don’t intervene in “bystander effect”

A Chinese hit video game Black Myth:Wukong has taken the gaming world by storm, selling more than 10 million copies across all platforms in just three days after its release.
The game is inspired by the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. In it, players take the role of the Destined One, setting off for adventures to collect six relics that once belonged to Sun Wukong and challenge the Celestial Court.
Drawing on a rich heritage of nearly 1,000 years of Chinese culture, the game’s storyline and characters have proven difficult to understand for many players from Western countries. For instance, a player shared on social media that their lack of familiarity with Journey to the West led to them consistently missing hidden treasures, finally resulting in repeated failures during a boss fight in Chapter 2. Meanwhile, some players feel overwhelmed by names like Erlang Shen and Lingxuzi, which can be difficult to pronounce for those unfamiliar with Chinese phonetics.
To bridge these cultural divides, one enthusiast wrote a 200-page outline detailing Sun Wukong’s abilities across all 100 chapters of Journey to the West. Many others immersed themselves in the epic by checking out forums, TV shows, anime, manga and online encyclopedias.
Through this process, Western players have not only refined their gaming skills but also developed a deeper appreciation for Sun Wukong and Journey to the West.
“Although many people might compare Sun Wukong to Western superheroes, I believe they are different,” said Patrick from the US. “Sun Wukong has a carefree and independent nature, unlimited by the need to set a good example for others like Spider-Man, who by contrast follows principles like ‘with great power comes great responsibility’.”
Journey to the West offers a comprehensive narrative that covers a very dangerous journey, numerous encounters and the exploration of various cultures, making it a rich source for diverse storytelling types and cultural backgrounds.
Perhaps these are some of the key reasons why Journey to the West has been translated into over a dozen languages, with more than 60 versions available worldwide.
( )32.What is the Destined One in Paragraph 2
A.The nickname of Sun Wukong in the game.
B.The fictional main character of this hit game.

( )33.What does the underlined word “bridge” in Paragraph 4 most likely mean
A.Get rid of. B.Take control of.
C.Keep track of. D.Take advantage of.
( )34.What can be learned about the game from the passage
A.It has gradually gained popularity among players worldwide.
B.Its original character Sun Wukong is similar to Western superheroes.
C.It has been translated into many languages with numerous versions available worldwide.
D.It is rather challenging for Western players due to their unfamiliarity with Chinese culture.
( )35.What does the text mainly talk about
A.A Chinese hit video game and its original novel Journey to the West.
B.Reasons behind the success of Chinese video game Black Myth:Wukong.
C.The cultural impact and Western players’ reception of a Chinese hit video game.
D.Challenges and benefits Black Myth: Wukong brings to the spread of Chinese culture.

It was on the warmth of a summer day. After finishing the spring semester at high school, my cousins and I had two months to rest and go somewhere. A beach trip in the summer was always a great idea for us who lived far away from the beach. Hence, my cousins and I made a plan to go to Fort Walton Beach in Florida because we heard Florida has the most amazing beaches. The trip was such an unforgettable vacation for me with mixed emotions. Sometimes, when I recall, everything seems to have just happened yesterday.
We were very excited about this trip because this was the first chance for us to go out of Texas. We prepared and packed up everything about three weeks before the day of departure. We drove straight to Florida and arrived at Walton Beach in the evening.
The instant we got out of the car, I went to check in two rooms. My cousins went straight to the beach to find a place to go fishing. I stayed behind and got my things settled in since I don’t like fishing. After unpacking, I called a taxi to take me to them. Night fell down completely by the time I got there. The cool wind covered my body when I walked on a bridge where my cousins were fishing. They didn’t notice me because they were so concentrated on fishing. I ended up leaving them behind because I started to get bored and went down to the beach. Suddenly, far from the beach, I heard someone yelling, “Help, help me!” I looked around with shock and determined that the sound was coming from about a half mile away from me. I saw something rising out of the surface. It looked like a person and she was about to sink into the water, fighting to stay up.
For a second, I really did not know what I should do instead of just standing there with surprise. Thoughts inside my mind were going crazy because I wanted to save her, but my consciousness did not allow me to do that because I was not skilled at swimming.
Paragraph 1:
However, only with seconds of hesitation, I looked around and saw a life jacket.

Paragraph 2:
Exhausted, we laid our bodies on the sand.
