When photojournalist Jasper Doest arrived in the Transylvanian Alps to document the coexistence of humans and wildlife for his film, he planned on shooting in the forest of the Southern Carpathian woods. “It’s a beautiful mountain landscape with the forests—a very wild place,” says Doest. Instead, he found a story on the side of the road—he got up close and personal with a group of bears begging for food.
While driving on a mountain pass, Doest realized the bears hanging around on the roadside were waiting for human handouts. He stopped to observe the bears, but when he rolled down his window, a large brown bear headed directly for the vehicle and made his move, waiting for a tasty treat. “This is the shot,” Doest thought. He forced his fingers to press the button, getting six shots—one clear, five unclear. Then he realized just how close he’d been to the animal and its possible dangers.
The region’s brown bears are usually shy around people. It takes just a few meals to get hooked on human food. And, after that, they don’t stay wild long. They began to depend on humans for existence. Doest changed his ideas to the assignment after meeting a tourist who proudly told him she’d been feeding bears on the roadside in the conservation area. “It was the saddest thing,” he says. “It made us realize the bears had completely changed their behaviour.”
In the days that followed Doest saw other examples of how tourists’ handouts had changed the delicate ecosystem they were visiting. As he watched people feeding bears snacks like doughnuts, he realized the story of conservation in the region was as much about people as wildlife. “It’s about how to accept nature in our lives, and how we could benefit if we do it the right way,” he says. So don’t feed the bears, says Doest—you could save an animal’s life, and a community’s commitment to wildlife conservation, along the way.

A.They tend to become humans’ pets.
B.They have a higher risk of getting ill.
C.They are likely to attack people for food.
D.They will become too dependent on humans.
( )7.What is the author’s purpose in writing the text
A.To promote his new documentary.

National WWⅡ Museum, New Orleans, the US部分中“Late last year, it opened the Liberation Pavilion, which explores the final years of the war.”
根据Liamuiga Natural Farms, St. Kitts部分中“‘As you explore Liamuiga Natural Farms, you’re not just a guest,’ says co-owner Tiffany Mike, ‘you’re a part of our work to protect the environment, uphold Kittitian traditions, and create a better future.’”
根据NorEste Trail, Puerto Rico部分中“An hour’s drive east of San Juan, Puerto Rico’s first backpacking path, the NorEste Trail lets visitors ‘hike in a rainforest, be on a mountaintop in the clouds, and go to the beach, all in the same day’, El Yunque forest supervisor(主管) Keenan Adams said.” 故选A项。
B
根据第一段“When Goldstein was a young child, he took piano lessons every Saturday morning with a family friend. She would feed him breakfast, and Goldstein would get to check out her husband’s stamp collection. Eventually, they would get around to playing the piano.”
根据第三段“One time, Shapiro asked Goldstein to memorize one of Beethoven’s masterpieces for the next week. Goldstein replied immediately, saying he didn’t know if he could do that.”
根据第四段“This was nothing like his light-hearted Saturday mornings with his former teacher, and it wasn’t long before Goldstein decided that he didn’t want to take piano lessons anymore. He figured he would pick up another instrument, or maybe just teach himself the piano.”
根据第五段“The hesitant student immediately felt a sign from the teacher that she cared about him. That moment changed their relationship.”以及最后一段“‘She became my mentor(导师) and closest friend. I went into music, went to Juilliard, became a musician, and became a piano teacher,’ Goldstein said. ‘And that’s what I’ve been doing for the past 50 years. And I owe it all to that one precious moment with my unsung hero, Alice Shapiro.’” 故选A项。

根据第三段“The team transported the birds to a place about 1,200 metres above sea level and measured their metabolic(新陈代谢的) rate when hovering(盘旋). After relocating the hummingbirds to a field station at an altitude of 3,800 metres, the researchers let the birds rest for at least 12 hours and then measured that rate again.”
根据第四段“The rate was 37 percent lower, on average, at the higher altitudes, even though the birds should have been working harder to fly in the thinner air…The decrease in metabolic rate shows that the birds’ hovering performance was suffering, he says. ‘Low oxygen and low air pressure may be holding them back as they try to move upward.’”
根据最后一段“Additional work is needed to see whether the birds might be able to better adjust(适应) if given weeks or months to adapt to the conditions at gradually higher altitudes.”

根据第一段“It’s therefore unsurprising that Patner enjoys floor time—in part to stretch(伸展) his body because he has a back pain, but also because it’s calming.”和第二段“Lily Bishop, a graduate student, loves lying flat on her back, silently staring at the ceiling. ‘I am a floor person,’ she said. ‘Meeting just ended Floor. Home from the gym Floor. I find it makes me more relaxed and slows down the anxious thoughts.’”
根据第三段“Although there aren’t enough researches that explore the benefits of lying on the ground, experts say spending time on the floor can help us feel grounded…calming effect…”以及最后一段“The focus on letting go makes it easier to help the body and mind reduce the pressure…”
根据第四段“Lying on the ground might also help us avoid ruminating, or repeatedly going over the same negative(消极的) thoughts in your head…” 故选A。
根据最后一段“‘Typically…keeps working,’…To get comfortable, it becomes necessary to go down to the floor and soften your muscles, Fogel added. The focus on letting go makes it easier to help the body and mind reduce the pressure—to ‘just be’, he said.”
1.A 由上文“We all want to be liked. Sometimes, this means we might say or do something that doesn’t feel right because we want to please someone else. However, it’s important to learn how to be truer to ourselves and become comfortable saying ‘no’.” A选项“This is called setting boundaries.”(这被称为设定边界。) 故选A。
2.B 由上文“Setting boundaries is being honest and respectful about what you like and dislike.”及下文“At one end, they could be so strict and difficult to change that you avoid getting close to people. At the other, they might be so floppy(松软的)that you put up with mean comments.” B选项“You can think of boundaries as a range.”(你可以把边界想象成一个范围。)
3.D 由上文“Setting boundaries allows you to ‘protect’ yourself. They help you feel safe and respected.”及下文“Because they don’t know or understand what is and isn’t acceptable.” D选项“If you don’t have boundaries, some people may take advantage.”(如果你没有边界,有些人可能会占你便宜。)能承上启下,符合语境,其中boundaries与上文呼应,“some people may take advantage”与下文呼应。
G选项“Learning to set boundaries helps us to respect other people’s boundaries.”(学会设定边界有助于我们尊重别人的边界。)
5.E 由上文“You might not be too upset about seeing the film your friend picked because you enjoy their company.” E选项“Another friend might choose not to come due to the film choice.”(另一个朋友可能会因为电影的选择而决定不来。)

But when Goldstein was 12, his teacher told his parents that he needed better instruction. So his mother took him to a music school in the Bronx, and enrolled (注册) him in classes with a teacher named Alice Shapiro. This new teacher was known for being strict, and she quickly lived up to that name.

These hummingbirds have expanded their range in the past. Once only found in Southern California, the birds now live as far north as Vancouver, says Austin Spence, an ecologist at the University of California, Davis. That expansion is probably due to climate change and people using feeders to attract hummingbirds, he says.

The rate was 37 percent lower, on average, at the higher altitudes, even though the birds should have been working harder to fly in the thinner air. At higher altitudes, hovering, which takes a lot of energy compared with other forms of flight, is more challenging and requires even more energy, Spence says. As a child, Josh Patner became used to stepping over his mum, who would lie down in the kitchen to escape his grandmother’s nagging (唠叨). Patner’s father, also a fan of the floor, took a 20-minute rest under the piano each night after work. It’s therefore unsurprising that Patner enjoys floor time—in part to stretch (伸展) his body because he has a back pain, but also because it’s calming.
Lily Bishop, a graduate student, loves lying flat on her back, silently staring at the ceiling. “I am a floor person,” she said. “Meeting just ended Floor. Home from the gym Floor. I find it makes me more relaxed and slows down the anxious thoughts.”
What’s so great about being on the floor Although there aren’t enough researches that explore the benefits of lying on the ground, experts say spending time on the floor can help us feel grounded. When you lie flat on your back, your gesture is open and relaxed, which may have a calming effect, said Ellen Hendriksen, a psychologist in Boston. “Your body and mood want to cling (保持一致). This is why it’s difficult to feel hopeful if you’re sitting in your chair, head hanging down,” she said.
Lying on the ground might also help us avoid ruminating, or repeatedly going over the same negative (消极的) thoughts in your head, explained Alan Fogel, a professor at the University of Utah.
“Typically what happens, especially in familiar places like our bed, is that our mind keeps working,” Fogel said. “We think about what happened during the day and what we should have done.” When lying on the floor, however, you may realize more what your body is feeling and focus less on your thoughts. To get comfortable, it becomes necessary to go down to the floor and soften your muscles, Fogel added. The focus on letting go makes it easier to help the body and mind reduce the pressure—to “just be”, he said.
( )12.Why are Patner and Bishop mentioned in the first two paragraphs
A.To stress the influence of families’ traditions.
B.To tell different habits of different people.
C.To introduce a special way to relax.
D.To state the anxiety of the young.
( )13.What can we know about being on the floor
A.It has changed people’s lifestyle.
B.It has led to further researches.
C.It brings people peace of mind.
D.It cures people of diseases.
( )14.What does the underlined word “ruminating” in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A.Overthinking. B.Oversleeping.
C.Misbehaving. D.Misunderstanding.
( )15.How does Fogel support his opinions in the last paragraph
A.By explaining rules.
B.By doing experiments.
C.By making a comparison.
D.By referring to studies.

We all want to be liked. Sometimes, this means we might say or do something that doesn’t feel right because we want to please someone else. However, it’s important to learn how to be truer to ourselves and become comfortable saying “no”.1.
What is setting boundaries (边界)
Setting boundaries is being honest and respectful about what you like and dislike. 2. At one end, they could be so strict and difficult to change that you avoid getting close to people. At the other, they might be so floppy(松软的)that you put up with mean comments. The middle bit of this range (区间) is the healthy space where you value others’ opinions and you’re clear on your own values and needs.
Why are boundaries important
Setting boundaries allows you to “protect” yourself. They help you feel safe and respected. 3. Because they don’t know or understand what is and isn’t acceptable. Pleasing other people can become a habit and then they expect you to do what they want every time. It’s also important to remember that you don’t have to explain your boundaries—there’s nothing wrong with saying “no”.
Other people’s boundaries
4. Everyone’s boundaries vary and that’s OK. The things that are not a big deal to you might be important to others. You might not be too upset about seeing the film your friend picked because you enjoy their company. 5. It’s important to find a balance in our friendships so that we can remain open towards others and protective of ourselves too.
A.This is called setting boundaries.
B.You can think of boundaries as a range.
C.Be clear about what you do and don’t like.
D.If you don’t have boundaries, some people may take advantage.
E.Another friend might choose not to come due to the film choice.
F.You are comfortable saying “no” and you accept “no” from others.
G.Learning to set boundaries helps us to respect other people’s boundaries.(共57张PPT)

( )10.Which best describes Anna's hummingbirds' hovering
performance at higher altitudes
A.Energetic. B.Recovered. C.Unaffected. D.Weakened.
The rate was 37 percent lower,
on average, at the higher altitudes, even though the birds
should have been working harder to fly in the thinner air…The
decrease in metabolic rate shows that the birds' hovering
performance was suffering, he says. ‘Low oxygen and low air
pressure may be holding them back as they try to move
upward.’”

As a child, Josh Patner became used to stepping over his
mum, who would lie down in the kitchen to escape his
grandmother's nagging (唠叨). Patner's father, also a fan of the
floor, took a 20-minute rest under the piano each night after
work. It's therefore unsurprising that Patner enjoys floor time—in
part to stretch (伸展) his body because he has a back pain, but
also because it's calming.

Lily Bishop, a graduate student, loves lying flat on her back,
silently staring at the ceiling. “I am a floor person,” she said.
“Meeting just ended Floor. Home from the gym Floor. I find it
makes me more relaxed and slows down the anxious thoughts.”
What's so great about being on the floor Although there
aren't enough researches that explore the benefits of lying on
the ground, experts say spending time on the floor can help us
feel grounded. When you lie flat on your back, your gesture is
open and relaxed, which may have a calming effect, said Ellen

Hendriksen, a psychologist in Boston. “Your body and mood
want to cling (保持一致). This is why it's difficult to feel hopeful
if you're sitting in your chair, head hanging down,” she said.
Lying on the ground might also help us avoid ruminating,
or repeatedly going over the same negative (消极的) thoughts
in your head, explained Alan Fogel, a professor at the University
of Utah.
“Typically what happens, especially in familiar places like our
bed, is that our mind keeps working,” Fogel said.

“We think about what happened during the day and what we
should have done.” When lying on the floor, however, you may
realize more what your body is feeling and focus less on your
thoughts. To get comfortable, it becomes necessary to go down
to the floor and soften your muscles, Fogel added. The focus
on letting go makes it easier to help the body and mind
reduce the pressure—to “just be”, he said.
