M: To meet Celia and Jack. They are waiting for me in the cafe. We’re going to do some shopping and then go to the park.
Text 3
W: Can we have our check please
M: That’ll be $46.50. Will this be cash or credit
W: Wait. Right here you charged us twice for the milk.
M: I’m so sorry. Let me take that off. There you go. Your new total is $43.50.
Text 4
W: Wow, you got us tickets for the show tonight

W: I would love to, Sam! Can we go to dinner I’ve always wanted to eat at the new restaurant in town.
M: Sure! Then we should go to a movie after dinner. I love going to the movies.
W: Okay. Then we could get coffee after the movie and talk about it if we’re not ready to go home. That sounds like an amazing night!
Text 7
W:What happened to your fingers
M:I hurt them the other day.
W:How did you do that
M:Well, I’ve been fixing up things in my apartment. I plan to put in some new chairs this week.
W:That sounds interesting. What else have you been doing
M:I’ve been painting the apartment, too. I’ve been thinking about it for a long time.
W:What colour did you decide on
M:I’ve been painting the kitchen yellow and green and the living room white. I like bright colours. They’re full of life. And my apartment was pretty dark.
W:What colour are you going to paint the bedroom
M:I’m not sure yet. I’ve been thinking about a dark colour, maybe brown. The bedroom should be dark, I guess. Then I won’t have trouble getting up late on Saturday and Sunday.
Text 8
M: Hey, Lola!
W: Hello, Tom! What are you doing here
M: I’m looking for a new shirt. I need a nice shirt for a party after work tomorrow.
W: Well, there are some nice shirts over there. They’re the latest style and they look smarter.
M: Are you going to buy some new clothes today, too
W: I already bought three shirts in different colours: pink, purple, and red. I also got a really nice red dress! I bought a skirt and a jacket, too.
M: That’s a lot!
W: Don’t worry. I don’t do this every day. Anyway, why don’t you try this shirt on This blue colour really suits you.
M: Yeah. How does it look on me
W: Well, maybe you should try a bigger size. Try this one on.
M: OK. I’m going to get it. By the way, I want to buy a dress for my wife. Can you recommend anything good
W: Of course.
Text 9
M: Linda, why are you dancing I thought we had to study for our maths test!
W: Oh, hi, Drake! I was just doing some exercise. I thought you wouldn’t get here until later. Let me turn the music off.
M: You exercise by dancing I thought things like jogging and bicycling were considered exercise.
W: Well, those are other good ways to work out, but I like to dance. Do you like to dance
M: I sometimes dance at parties, but I am not a very good dancer. For exercise, I prefer playing soccer. I hope to make the soccer team in the fall.
W: Cool! I know you like to go to the park on the weekends and play soccer. If you teach me some of your soccer moves, I’ll teach you some dance moves! How does that sound
M: It’s a deal. If there weren’t the maths test tomorrow, we could definitely go to the gym right now.
W: Right. No more fun and games. Let me get my notebook.
Text 10
M: Good morning, students! It’s Jack here, the football coach here at Lincoln High. Principal Jones said I could make an announcement today. Of course, our big game is this weekend, and a lot of you—well, I hope all of you—are looking forward to it. Anyway, I want to tell you my favourite quote, one that I heard when I was in school.“Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school.” This phrase is from a really smart guy, Albert Einstein. In my job, I work with athletes, but I always tell them not to forget their studies, too. Appreciate these days that you have to study and learn. That’s what school is about. Make the most of it. Have fun with your friends, be sociable at get-togethers, go to football games…But just be sure to get your homework done and listen and participate in class. You’re headed for bigger and better things. Some say college is a waste of time, but I don’t think so. There are things you learn in the process of learning that are priceless. There’s an education that goes on beyond what we read in textbooks and listen to in lectures. Life is one big educational process. And that’s what Einstein was trying to say. Have a great day!

第四部分
第一节
One possible version:
Are Internet friends real friends
Online friendships are a wonderful part of many people’s lives, but as far as I’m concerned, Internet friends cannot be considered real friends.
While it may be easy to communicate with people online, the Internet doesn’t provide the same level of personal interaction and emotional connection. Additionally, the unknown identity of the Internet can result in difficulties in establishing trust, which makes it difficult to determine the true intentions of an Internet friend. Moreover, though Internet friends seem to keep you company, they can’t provide you with the real support.
Therefore, I think people should make efforts to form real-life friendships rather than online friendships.
One possible version:
Seeing my condition, my family advised me to make the most of the time that was left before they moved. In their last ten days here, when they had quit school(时间状语从句), we made a list of things we always planned on doing(定语从句) and, one by one, we did those things. We watched a movie, went out for lunch, baked a cake, and went for a picnic to a water park. We created more memories that would last a lifetime and we could look back on fondly(定语从句). It was challenging to come to terms with the situation I was in(it形式主语;定语从句), but my parents helped me realise that one way to help cope with emotions is to create memories(宾语从句).
When the departure day came, saying goodbye wasn’t easy. Tonny, Danial and I hugged each other tightly, unable to contain sadness with tears streaming down our cheeks(with复合结构). In order to relieve our pain of departure, our parents promised to keep us connected through online meetings once every week. They also encouraged sharing photos of activities we did on the weekends(定语从句). All these efforts helped me become happy again, and the realisation that even when they moved so far, we could still be the closest best friends(同位语从句;让步状语从句), set my heart at ease.单元素养测评卷(四)

A [2025·福建泉州高一期中]
In today’s cost-of-living crisis, the demand on charities is greater than ever. Here are a dozen new ways people around the world are giving back.
Commu app, Finland
How do people wanting to volunteer connect with groups needing help In 2021 in Finland, three 20-something businessmen founded Commu, an app that makes it easy for individuals to offer help to those in need or to ask for help in their communities. It works in Finnish, English, German and Norwegian and features a special area on the app that focuses on the needs of refugees (难民) in Finland.
Frigos Solidaires, France
Imagine if those in need could help themselves to food with anonymity (匿名) and respect. Frigos Solidaires was started with that aim by Dounia Mebtoul, a young restaurant owner in Paris. Now, 130 fridges installed (安装) in front of places such as shops and schools offer free food to the hungry across France.
Stuff A Bus, Canada
In Edmonton, the transport service centre parks buses in front of supermarkets for its annual “Stuff A Bus” campaign each November. Volunteers collect food and cash donations from shoppers to fill buses heading for food banks. Since 1995, the campaign has collected 553,000 kilograms of food and about half a million dollars for those in need.
Donation Dollar, Australia
Motivating people to donate is the goal of a unique one-dollar coin created by the Royal Australian Mint (RAM). Featuring a green centre with a gold ripple design, the coin reminds people who find it in their change to donate it to charity. By the end of last year, about $2 million had been donated to charities and people or businesses in need.

The grocery store might not be your favourite place to visit when you’re at home, but isn’t it ever fun when you’re in another country Honestly speaking, they’re one of those strange little destinations that I like to sniff out everywhere I go, much as other travellers head towards clothing stores, libraries, cafés or galleries.
The biggest beauty of the grocery store—whether it’s a huge supermarket or a tiny one—is that it gives you a glimpse into what local people buy to cook. This offers clues into their lifestyles and preferences, and into the agricultural and cooking practices of the country. I stare at the strange fruits and vegetables, the seafood, the cheese, the spices, the breads, and oh, the chocolate…always the chocolate!
Being an environmental nerd ( 痴 迷 者 ) I am, I like paying attention to packaging, which can reflect their attitude towards environmental protection. Italy, for example, has a habit of requiring customers to bag their fruits and vegetables in plastic for weighing, while Sri Lanka leaves everything loose in bins. In Brazil, everything is prepackaged in a layer of plastic.
People in grocery stores tend to be friendlier. They smile, say hello, and sometimes ask questions, which can lead to great conversations. I had a further discussion with a teenaged cashier in Sri Lanka, over which bag of crunchy mix to buy. He insisted that the one labeled “spicy” would be too hot for me, but I told him I was willing to risk it. He laughed and we ended up talking about my favourite Sri Lankan foods for ten minutes.
The financial savings extend to souvenirs, too. Whether it is ground spices for my mum or chocolates for my kids, the grocery store is the first place I look for unique gifts. It’s interesting then to come home and look at one’s own local grocery store through new eyes. What would a visitor think What stands out, and what do the food displays say about us as a culture You might be surprised by what you realize.

Feeling overloaded by your to-do list can certainly make you unhappy, but new research suggests that more free time might not be the elixir many of us dream it could be.
In a new study released last week, researchers analysed data from two large-scale (大规模的) surveys about how Americans spend their time. Together, the surveys included more than 35,000 respondents. The researchers found that people with more free time generally had higher levels of subjective well-being—but only up to a point. People who had around two hours of free time a day generally reported they felt better than those who had less time. But people who had five or more hours of free time a day generally said they felt worse. So ultimately the free-time “sweet spot” might be two to three hours per day, the findings suggest.
Part of finding this seemingly tricky “sweet spot” has to do with how people spend the extra time they have, the researchers behind the new study argued. They conducted several smaller online experiments. In one they asked participants to imagine having 3.5 to 7 free hours per day. They were asked to imagine spending that time doing “productive” things (like exercising) or to imagine doing “unproductive” activities (like watching TV). Study participants believed their well-being would suffer if they had a lot of free time during the day—but only if they used it unproductively. Though that experiment was hypothetical, which is one limitation of the new research, it’s certainly in line with other research showing that being in a state of “flow” can be good for people’s mental health.
Of course, what feels “productive” is up to you. Many traditionally productive or purposeful activities can be easy and fun. Engaging in a bit of low-key cardio, like walking and jogging, can help burn stress. Free-time activities like reading or cooking are also known to put people in a state of flow.
( )28.What does the underlined word “elixir” in Paragraph 1 refer to

A.Doing unproductive things leads to unhappiness.
B.Being in a state of flow benefits people’s mental health.
C.Man’s well-being is positively related to the free time they have.
D.How people spend their free time affects their sense of well-being.
( )31.What is the focus of the last paragraph
A.The importance of burning stress.
B.Easy and fun activities to kill time.
C.Further explanation of being productive.

Scientists in Switzerland have used lasers (激光) to change the path of a lightning strike. The experiment was carried out on Santis Mountain in Switzerland, near a radio and TV tower hit by lightning about 100 times a year. Using a special laser, the researchers were able to guide the lightning strike.
Scientists have been trying to find a way to protect buildings from lightning for a long time. At present, the best way to protect buildings from lightning is by putting metal rods (棒) on the buildings. These rods are connected to the ground. The lightning is attracted to the rods, which safely guide the electricity into the ground. But lightning rods can only protect a small area. If a building is very large, it needs a lot of lightning rods. But some buildings—such as airports—are so large that it’s difficult to protect the whole building using lightning rods.
Another idea is to use lasers to guide lightning. The idea of using lasers to guide lightning isn’t new. Scientists have been working on the idea for over 20 years. They’ve successfully guided lightning with lasers inside a laboratory. But until 2021, scientists guided lightning with lasers outside. Using a powerful laser that can fire about 1,000 times a second, scientists in Switzerland were able to guide lightning bolts for 164 feet (about 50 metres).
The heat from the laser creates a path of air that is less thick than the air around it. The path also has a special charge. The lightning can follow this path almost as if it were a lightning rod. In the past, experiments with lasers that fired more slowly didn’t work. Managing to guide the lightning in an outdoor environment is a very big step. But despite the progress, the laser still isn’t a good choice when it comes to protecting large buildings.
( )32.What is best to do to stop a building from being stricken by lightning
A.Equip it with metal rods.
B.Position it away from airports.
C.Build it on low-lying open ground.
D.Keep it away from any kind of metal.
( )33.What enables the laser to guide the lightning
A.Its colour. B.Its brightness.
C.Its speed. D.Its concentration.
( )34.What will the paragraph following the text probably talk about
A.How the laser should be improved to protect large buildings.
B.When the laser will be widely used to protect large buildings.
C.Why it is unnecessary to use the laser to protect large buildings.
D.What prevents the laser from being used to protect large buildings.
( )35.What is the best title for the text
A.Scientists find a new use of the laser
B.Scientists guide lightning with the laser
C.A new idea has been tested to guide lightning
D.A new way to protect buildings has been found

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Tonny and Danial were twins and had been my next-door neighbours since I was five years old. Not only did we go to the same school, but our evenings and weekends were spent together too. It was like we were inseparable. I never felt that I needed any friends other than them. Unexpectedly, one evening their parents shared the news of them moving to another country.
I was shocked to realise that we would never be together. I started recalling all the good times we had spent together, such as playing in the school breaks, the play dates, the tricks we played and all the fun things we did. Was it all going to end
When we had been through so many highs and lows together, shared secrets and supported each other through thick and thin, their moving away felt like a part of me was being ripped away (猛力撕开). The news of their departure (离开) left me feeling empty and lost.
I was thinking about the biggest change that I was going to face in a few days. It was a difficult pill to swallow, but I knew I must move on. Though it wasn’t easy at first, I was trying my level best to beat the mental pain I was in.
After hearing the news, I found every day felt like a struggle, and the school didn’t feel the same; the lunch breaks had no purpose. Soon there would be no one to compare the test marks with, and homework remarks would not excite me like before, and so on. I couldn’t help but feel lost and alone already.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
Paragraph 1:
Seeing my condition, my family advised me to make the most of the time that was left before they moved.

Paragraph 2:
When the departure day came, saying goodbye wasn’t easy.
