Chikungunya fever is a disease caused by the chikungunya virus (CHIKV). It is spread by
mosquitoes, mainly Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. The name “chikungunya” comes from an
African language. It means “to become contorted” because the joint pain from the disease can
make people bend their bodies in strange ways.
The symptoms of chikungunya fever usually start 2 to 12 days after being bitten by an
试卷第 1 页,共 3 页
infected mosquito. The first symptoms are often a high fever, sometimes as high as 40°C (104°F),
along with severe joint pain. The joint pain can be so bad that it makes it difficult for people to
move. Other symptoms may include headache, muscle pain, joint swelling, a rash, and feeling
very tired.
Most people start to feel better within a week, but for some, the joint pain can last for
months or even years. There is no specific medicine to treat chikungunya fever. Treatment mainly
focuses on relieving the symptoms. For example, doctors may recommend rest, drinking plenty of
fluids, and taking over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen to reduce fever
and pain.
To prevent chikungunya fever, the best way is to avoid mosquito bites. This can be done by
using mosquito repellents, wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants, and using mosquito nets,
especially at night. Eliminating mosquito breeding sites, such as standing water in flower pots, old
tires, and buckets, is also very important.

A.Within a month. B.Within a week.
C.Within two weeks. D.Within two months.

① I’ve lived in a lorry (卡车) with my younger sister Sinita and my parents for over 200

sky. The Kalahari is not like other deserts because it gets such a lot of rain—some parts of it look
really green. We had a guide, and he told us about all the amazing animals that lived there.
③ In November, we went on a whale-watching tour in South Africa and saw six whales.
We said hello to them. One even swam under our boat. That was really thrilling. I knew whales
were big, but I couldn’t believe how large they actually were.
④ In December, we drove to Boulders Beach in South Africa. There are thousands of
African penguins on the beach. These amazing black and white birds can swim, but cannot fly.

Many people think that English writing is difficult. 67 Here are some great
writing tips. They will help you improve your writing in a short time.
Don’t ramble (长篇大论). This is a very common mistake made by people who have poor
试卷第 1 页,共 3 页
writing skills. When they ramble, they are not paying attention to grammar. As a result, their
sentences become very long. 68 If you know you have poor grammar, use short
sentences.
69 Think about each sentence carefully to make sure that it is right before moving
on. It’s better to write a short passage that is easy to read and mistake-free than to write a long
article with grammar mistakes.
Increase your vocabulary. If you don’t have a large vocabulary, you will find it difficult to
write as you can’t find right words to express (表达) yourself clearly. The solution (解决办法) to
this problem is to increase your vocabulary. 70 You can do this by reading newspapers,
borrowing books from the library or watching English programs.
Don’t write when you are tired. Tiredness can lead to nothing to write. If you find yourself
looking at the paper with nothing to write, don’t just sit there! Take a walk or a warm shower, or
simply lie down to get some rest. 71 You’ll find that you enjoy your writing a lot more
and make fewer mistakes!
A.When your mind is relaxed, you should go back to your writing.
B.Make sure your sentences are right.
C.You can pick up new words almost anywhere.
D.The longer the sentences are, the more mistakes they’ll make.
E.As a result, they may give up after trying hard for a while.

Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and is the second smallest planet in our solar system.
Mars is sometimes called “the Red Planet” because of its color. But we are not able to breathe
well because there isn’t enough air.
Mars was named after the Roman god of war. The month of March is also named after him.
It is important to learn about Mars because Earth and Mars are always moving. Sometimes,
Mars is close to Earth. Choosing the shortest way is a good idea because the journey will need less
power.
Mars is the safest planet to travel to because:
试卷第 1 页,共 3 页

modern airliner (大型客机), you can travel in one day to places which needed a month or more to
get to hundreds of years ago.
Traveling by train is slower than by plane, but you can see the places you are traveling
through. Modern trains have comfortable seats and dining cars. They even make the longest
journey enjoyable.
Some people prefer to travel by sea. You can visit many other countries or different parts of
your country. Ships are not so fast as trains or planes, but traveling by sea is a very pleasant way
to spend a holiday.
Many people like to travel by car. You can make your own timetable. You can travel three
or four hundred miles or only fifty or one hundred miles a day, just as you like. You can stop if

The symptoms of chikungunya fever usually start 2 to 12 days after being bitten by an
infected mosquito.

A.完成图表。根据短文内容,完成图表中所缺信息。(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,计 10 分)
Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and is the second smallest planet in our solar system.
Mars is sometimes called “the Red Planet” because of its color. But we are not able to breathe
well because there isn’t enough air.
Mars was named after the Roman god of war. The month of March is also named after him.
It is important to learn about Mars because Earth and Mars are always moving. Sometimes,
Mars is close to Earth. Choosing the shortest way is a good idea because the journey will need less
power.
Mars is the safest planet to travel to because:
* its soil has a little water;
* it gets enough sunlight to use solar power;
* there is some gravity (重力) to help us walk;
* a day on the Mars is almost as the same length as on the earth.
Humans want to find out if there might be life on other planets and scientists believe that
Mars is the best planet for life, besides Earth.

Modern life is impossible without traveling. The fastest way of traveling is by plane. With a
modern airliner (大型客机), you can travel in one day to places which needed a month or more to
get to hundreds of years ago.
You can stop if
there is something interesting, for example, at a good restaurant where you can enjoy a good meal,
or at a hotel to spend the night. That’s why traveling by car is popular for pleasure trips, while
people usually take a train or a plane when they travel on business.

First, we watched a robot show. The robots danced and even solved math problems! After
