Improving our handwriting
Good handwriting does bring us lots of benefits. It not only allows us to express ourselves better but also gives pleasure to the readers. What’s more, good handwriting contributes to higher scores in the exams.
There are two tips to improve our handwriting. For one thing, we can write Chinese characters well by practising brush calligraphy, which is a traditional and elegant art. It is known that many famous artists in Chinese history have left outstanding calligraphy works. For another thing, we can also follow copybooks in our spare time to improve our English handwriting. Don’t forget to ask our teachers for guidance when necessary.
As an old saying goes, “Practice makes perfect.” With effort, we’ll definitely improve our handwriting.

One possible version:
In months that followed, Andara studied even harder. Then I arranged for her to take the Test of English Fluency in Jakarta. “连词+分词”结构 (状语从句的省略)
句型公式 
【句式点拨】
(1)这是一个复合句,由主句和两个从句构成。其中时间状语从句when acquiring new knowledge是when I am acquiring new knowledge的省略形式,构成“连词+分词”结构。what I have already learnt是宾语从句。
(2)在由when, while, if, unless, once, although, as等连词连接的时间、条件、让步、方式等状语从句中,如果从句的主语跟主句的主语一致或从句的主语为it, 并且从句中含有be动词的某种形式, 就可将从句省略成“连词+分词”形式。“连词+现在分词”表示主动;“连词+过去分词”表示被动。如:

My reflection on “Active learning”
After learning the text “Active learning”, I have come to realize that there are many things I can do to become an active learner.
As the text says, we all have two voices. Our inner voice tells us personal opinions and our outer voice deals with others’ opinions and things we have heard. I used to pay too much attention to my inner voice, which of course stops me from learning. But now I have learned to avoid listening to my inner voice all the time and sometimes I even argue with it.
I was born shy and was always afraid of asking questions. After reading the text, I have realized that asking questions is one of the best ways to promote active learning. I won’t hesitate to ask my teachers whenever I meet with problems in my study in the future, so that I can understand the truth deep within every idea.
By following the tips offered in the text “Active learning”, I am sure I can become an active learner and make great progress in my studies.

Life is hard—even harder than anyone thought it would be. When you were younger, you dreamed of the world being your playground, and you were told that you could do anything and be anyone you wanted. Somehow, though, things haven’t been the smooth sailing that you wanted them to be. The world seems to go against you, and the last thing you want to hear is “cheer up”.
Still, there are a couple of things you might not notice about your situation. Next time you’re down, maybe the following will provide motivation.
Firstly, not everything is bad. It’s a well-accepted fact that bad news makes for sensational (极好的) television ratings. The fact is that something negative catches a lot more attention than something positive, and that’s because it’s easy to see things in a negative light. However, that shouldn’t distract you from the bigger picture.
Resist the tunnel vision that results from constant negativity. Remember that even though there’s lots of really nasty stuff going on, you’re surrounded by some pretty awesome stuff as well.
You should also remember other people aren’t you. No one likes being compared to another person. What makes it even worse, if that’s even possible, is when you do it to yourself.
Stop comparing yourself to another person and you’ll realize that you’re much more awesome than you give yourself credit for.
Lastly, failure isn’t where the game stops. So you tried something new, but you didn’t follow through it. Frustrated at the lack of progress, you stop trying. As a result, your quality of life goes down terribly. You’ve given up on it, because you don’t see the point (since you failed the first time).
Now, you’re an adult. The things you are trying are much more complicated than five-year-old you. However, your behaviour shouldn’t change in the slightest—when you fail in something, that’s just more information in your data bank. You know that method doesn’t work, so try another one! I once worked in a school in Indonesia teaching English on a supporting programme. One afternoon, while I was walking across the campus, I noticed a girl sitting on a stone, her head bowed over a notebook, completely absorbed in her studies, her fingers tracing the lines of the text as she mouthed the words. My footsteps interrupted her, and she stood up to walk towards me. “My name is Andara,” she introduced herself. She asked if I could help her improve her English. I could tell it took immense courage for the young Indonesian girl to approach me and ask for help.
“I want to go to a US university,” she said with confidence. I was surprised. I asked to pay a visit to her family before I made any promise. After a two-hour bus ride, I met her family. I realized they would never be able to afford the expenses of a US university. Andara lived in a two-room house crowded with her parents and two brothers. The walls were dingy patched with years of wear and tear. Moved by her eagerness, I agreed to work with Hani on a volunteer basis to help her pursue her educational dreams. 
Andara’s enthusiasm was increasing with her language ability, but I was becoming more and more discouraged. The prospect (前景) of taking part in the Test of English Fluency in Jakarta filled me with worry, as the entire examination was an impossible challenge for someone who had never interacted with a computer before.
One day I received the announcement of a scholarship opportunity for a major US university. After reading the requirements, I knew Andara couldn’t meet the qualifications. I told her that there was only a slim chance and encouraged her to be more “realistic” about her dream. But she remained determined.
“Will you send in my name ” she asked.
I couldn’t turn her down. I completed the application, with the painful truth about her academic life, but also with my praise of her courage and perseverance (坚持不懈).

My reflection on “Active learning”
After learning the text “Active learning”, I have come to
realize that there are many things I can do to become an
active learner.
As the text says, we all have two voices. Our inner voice
tells us personal opinions and our outer voice deals with others'
opinions and things we have heard. I used to pay too much
attention to my inner voice, which of course stops me from
learning. But now I have learned to avoid listening to my inner
voice all the time and sometimes I even argue with it.
I was born shy and was always afraid of asking questions.
