For a long time, many people only knew China’s four ancient inventions: the compass (指南针) , gunpowder (火药) , paper-making and printing. However, China has once again changed the world with its “new four great inventions”—online shopping, mobile payment, shared bikes and high-speed trains. They have changed people’s lives completely. There are many big online shops, such as Taobao, T-mal, Pinduoduo, Suning and JD.They have made online shopping very popular in China. “My wallet is no longer in use. I can buy and eat whatever I want simply with my phone,” said Lin Jinlong. He is an exchange student from Cambodia, It’s true that even a fruit seller can use WeChat Pay or Alipay.
Bike sharing is not a new idea, but China has given it a whole new meaning. We can leave the shared bikes at any bike station. Most people love the idea, for it is not only cheap but also good for our health and our environment.
On September 21st, 2017, China’s new high-speed train Fuxing made its first run from Beijing to Shanghai. It ran at a speed of 350km/h. This makes it the fastest train in the world. China has the world’s longest high-speed railway network (网) —more than 22, 000 kilometers.

“I can’t see clearly, because I don’t wear my glasses today.” We always hear people saying something like this.
Glasses are very important to many people. Do you know how they were invented and developed
Glasses took a long time to develop into what you can find in the glasses store today. Chinese people first used colored glasses as fashion. They thought that those glasses had magic, but they didn’t think that glasses could help eyes to see clearly.
In 1262, an English inventor, Roger Bacon, discovered the amazing function(功能)of lenses(镜片), and he thought that glasses could be used to help people to see. Twenty years later, an inventor from Italy, Alessandro di Spina, made the first pair of glasses that could help people to see.
Although these glasses worked, scientists didn’t understand how glasses helped eyes to see. They thought that eyes sent out light onto whatever a person was looking for, and then the light came back to the eyes. Johannes Kepler finally found out how glasses worked.
Inventors continued to improve glasses. In 1784, Ben Franklin created glasses that had bifocal(双光的)lenses.
Many years later, in 1827, George Airy made circle-shaped glasses to correct astigmatism(散光), an eye problem that stop people’s eyes from seeing things clearly.

Have you ever heard of the cars without drivers Don’t be too surprised if you see a car like this going down the road in Beijing these days. It might be one of Baidu company’s driverless cars. Last month, Baidu company began to test its driverless cars on open roads in Beijing. Let’s learn something about the driverless cars. Driverless cars began to be developed in 2010. Since then, companies like Tesla, Uber and Baidu have been working to produce and test their own driverless cars. Driverless cars are safer than common cars. And they are more environmental-friendly than common cars. They are more convenient and allow disabled or blind people to get around more easily. But driverless cars have their own problems as well. In one test, researchers pointed a laser pointer at the car’s sensors(传感器) while it was moving. The car mistakenly thought that the laser beam(激光束) was in its way and slowed down or changed its direction. The software(软件) that is used to direct the cars may not be perfect enough. That’s because sometimes it may break down. When we use our computers or smart phones, they sometimes don’t work without any reason. And if this happened while driving, the results could be terrible. Improving the software could be the best way to deal with this problem.

If you think of the jobs robots could never do, you would probably put doctors and teachers at the top of the list. But in fact, in some situations, robots have already done better than doctors at finding illness. So could there be a place for robots in education too
British education expert Anthony Seldon thinks so. And he believes that by the year of 2027, robots will do the main job of the classroom while teachers will be like helpers. Smart robots will read students’ faces, actions and maybe even thoughts.
One thing is certain, though. A robot teacher is better than no teacher at all. In some parts of the world, there aren’t enough teachers and 9-16 percent of children under the age of 14 don’t go to school. That problem could be partly solved by robots because they can teach anywhere and won’t get tired.
Perhaps the question is not “Will robots replace teachers ” but “How can robots help teachers ” Teachers waste a lot of time doing non-teaching work, including more than 11 hours a week marking homework. If robots could cut the time teachers spend marking homework and writing reports, teachers would have more time and energy for the parts of the job humans do best.

Alice is a teenager from the USA.One day, Alice’s mother told her about a newspaper article which explained how difficult it was to get sick people through the countryside to hospital in Africa. Alice thought she could add wheels to make her travois move more easily. To make it lighter, she used bamboo from Africa instead of wood. Later, with the help of US companies, Alice plans to give ten travois free to hospitals in Africa. She doesn’t want to get money from them because they are for poor people. If you think of the jobs that robots could never do, you would probably put doctors or teachers at the top of the list. But in fact, in some ways, robots have already done better than doctors in finding illness. So could there be a place for robots in education too
British education expert (专家) Anthony Seldon thinks so. And he believes that by the year of 2027, robots will do the main job of the classroom while teachers will be like helpers. Smart robots will read students’ faces, actions and maybe even thoughts.
One thing is sure that a robot teacher is better than no teacher at all. In some parts of the world, there aren’t enough teachers, so 9-16 percent of children under the age of 14 don’t go to school. That problem could be partly solved by robots because they can teach anywhere and won’t get tired.
Perhaps the question is not “Will robots take the place of teachers ” but “How can robots help teachers ” Teachers waste a lot of time doing non-teaching work, including more than 11 hours a week marking homework. If robots could cut the time teachers spend marking homework and writing reports, teachers would have more time and energy for the parts of the job humans do best.

Shared bikes have become one of the “four new great inventions” in China. On the one hand, they make our life more convenient. First, we can use them anywhere at any time. Second, we can spend less money and energy. It’s a cheap and green way to go around on a shared bike. On the other hand, some problems about the shared bikes have appeared, too. For example, some people park the shared bikes everywhere, or even break them.
In order to make good use of them, I think laws must be made to protect the shared bikes. It’s our responsibility to take care of the bikes when we are using them. What’s more, pay more attention to the safety. Remember that children under 12 shouldn’t be allowed to ride a shared bike on the street.
