At the recent Tech Innovators Challenge, several student teams showed their creative projects. Team EduAI, which developed an AI-powered education software that personalizes learning, secured the first position. They received 500,000 in prize money. Speaking for the team, Adekun le shared their inspiration: “We couldn’t find satisfactory answers from other apps during an exam, so we created our own software. It uses AI to help users understand topics better. For example, if someone struggles with a topic, the software adapts to make learning easier.”
In second place, Team Brainstorm earned 350,000 for designing AI-integrated sensor glasses for those with low vision. Third place went to Team ConnectEdu, who created a student communication app with embedded (嵌入的) security features, receiving 150, 000. Meanwhile, Team TechQueen and Team Robotech, who developed a tourism location app and a goods delivery drone (无人机) respectively, took fourth and fifth places.
Mrs. Ikusemi Oyeronke, the Head of the Technology Department at Dansol High School, explained that the competition aimed to prepare students for the labour market by developing creativity and problem-solving skills. “It’s not just about technical knowledge but also about learning to create practical and market-ready solutions,” she said. “Seeing our students transform their ideas into impactful projects has been incredibly rewarding.”
One of the judges, Mr. Lanre Ogundipe, CEO of PaveHQ, praised the students’ efforts. “The level of innovation was impressive. While prizes were given, everyone here is a winner. We plan to support some of these projects to turn them into real-world solutions,” he stated.
Beyond the competition, the winning teams expressed their desires to improve their projects further. Team EduAI hopes to better their software to help students globally, while Team Brainstorm plans to cooperate with organizations serving people with low vision. The event served not only as a platform for showing talent but also as an opportunity to inspire the next generation of innovators.

Have you ever joyously stepped out to your backyard garden, only to find your cared-for plants and herbs dying Was the soil too dry Did pests find their way in During times like these, some disappointed gardeners may wish their plant would just tell them what it needs. A new Microsoft-partnered project in the UK is trying to see if that concept can be demonstrated in real world.
Next year, the Royal Horticultural Society in England will show off an “intelligent garden” that uses an AI model to monitor the garden’s environment and inform gardeners when it needs care. Visitors will be able to walk up to virtual platforms and ask the intelligent garden questions about its current environmental state. The AI language module will then interpret the data and respond with phrases like “I need a bit more water,” or “I need a trim (修剪)” depending on data collected in the soil.
When it is completed, the garden will rely on a network of sensors throughout the garden measuring environmental factors like soil moisture (湿度) as well as wind and rainfall. All of that data is then sent to a specially designed AI model, powered by Microsoft’s Azure Open AI Service, which can then process those factors and inform gardeners on better feeding, watering, or trimming suggestions.
In theory, insights provided by models like this one could help gardeners use resources effectively and avoid over-watering plants before rainfall, both of which can aid in sustainability efforts. It’s unclear, however, whether even the best models can account for individual plant tendencies like experienced gardeners.
The garden’s two designers, Massey and Je Ahn, wanted to avoid falling into the trouble of making the AI-powered garden feel overly artificial. Though sensors and algorithms (算法) play a significant role in maintaining the plants, the actual physical design of the space depended on humans. “AI hasn’t designed the garden. It is assisting the gardeners looking after the garden,” Massey explained.
8. For what purpose is the AI-powered garden created
A. To water and trim the plants.
B. To replace gardeners with technology.
C. To allow visitors to design their own gardens.
D. To monitor the situation and provide suggestions.
9. What role do the sensors play
A. Designing the garden. B. Controlling the AI system.
C Collecting environmental data. D. Monitoring the health of plants.
10. According to the designers, the AI-powered garden ________.
A. is not as intelligent as human B. still needs gardeners
C. struggles to maintain complex data D. can not handle single plant accurately
11. What’s the best title of the text
A. AI Benefits Human’s Life B. The Future AI-powered Garden
C. AI-powered Garden Makes Plant Talk D. AI Garden Exhibition in the UK

A bot is a software program that often works by itself on the internet to perform the same kinds of actions as humans do. The report, produced by California-based internet security company Imperva, found that 49.6 percent of worldwide internet traffic (互联网流量) came from bots in 2023, while from human users fell to 50.4 percent. Imperva’s study also found that web traffic linked to “bad bots” grew to 32 percent in 2023, a rise of 30.2 percent from 2022. Nanhi Singh, a security advisor at Imperva, said that bots are currently one of growing threats facing almost every industry.
Bots are generally designed to visit websites and independently search for many kinds of online information. They are able to operate at much greater speeds than humans and can process repeated searches and process large amounts of data. Online search advisor Yoast notes that some bots are considered good because they can be useful to individuals through tools such as OpenAI’s chatbot, ChatGPT. Some others are considered malicious, because they are trained to hack, or break into network computer systems. These kinds of bots pretend themselves as humans and collect private data or financial information that can be used to commit crimes. And some bots are even designed to spread misinformation and false news.
The study also suggested that some countries have a much bigger problem with bad bots than others. Web traffic linked to bad bots in 2023 accounted for 71 percent in Ireland while Germany was next, with 67.5 percent. The percentage of Mexico and the USA was reported to be 42.8 percent and 35.4 percent respectively. Imperva even reported that bad bot activity would lead to account takeovers, which increased 10 percent in 2023 over 2022. The highest number of account takeovers — 36.8 percent — happened in the financial services industry. Next was the travel industry, with 11.5 percent, followed by business services at eight percent.
Nanhi Singh said the problem is likely to worsen in coming years to the point where such bots would exist everywhere. She urged organizations to introduce bot management and security tools in an effort to limit automated traffic and prevent dangerous account takeovers.
12. What did Imperva’s study find
A. Bad bots caused 49.6% of web traffic in 2023.
B. Traffic from human users fell to the second in 2023.
C. Web traffic linked to “bad bots” rose sharply in 2023.
D. Nearly half of the world’s web traffic was caused by bad bots in 2023.
13. What does the underlined word “malicious” in Paragraph 2 mean
A. Useful. B. Dependable. C. Harmful. D. Irresponsible.
14. What is Nanhi Singh’s attitude towards current situation of web traffic
A. Optimistic. B. Satisfied. C. Concerned. D. Conservative.
15. What can be learned about bots from the passage
A. Every industry is currently threatened by bots.
B. Bots can be both helpful and troublesome.
C. Bots can search for online information by themselves.
D. Web traffic linked to bad bots was the most serious problem in Ireland in 2023.

It was the first week of Lily’s middle school. The bell’s ringing brought her out of her daydreaming. She nervously gathered her books, preparing to reach another classroom for the next new class.
Lily followed the other kids and rushed into the hallway. Others walked in groups, chatted, and laughed, using the break to socialize. Lily, instead, walked alone along the wall of the hallway, with her head down. She was a shy girl, afraid to speak in front of other kids, and didn’t think others would like her.
Lily finally sat in Mr. Johnson’s Language Arts class nervously. “Welcome to Language Arts,” said Mr. Johnson. He told jokes as he talked about English. Lily forgot to daydream and laughed along with the rest of the class. “We’ll have some fun with language,” he said. “Just wait and see.”
Fun was far beyond what Lily desired. She just wanted to be like other kids—running with friends in the hallway, laughing and joking between classes. Reminded of her pimply (长粉刺的) face, she felt hopeless and disappointed.
“Take out a piece of paper,” the teacher continued, when pointing at words on the blackboard. “Write for the next thirty minutes on this topic.” Lily began writing crazily as idea after idea fought for recognition in her head. The final result was a short story about a beautiful beach house. As she wrote, she could smell the salty air, hear the crashing waves and feel the pull of the sand beneath her feet. For just a moment, she forgot where she was. She was lost in the story.
“OK, pass your papers forward,” said the teacher. “Let’s see what we have.” For the rest of the class time, the teacher read each individual work aloud. Lily originally thought it would be awkward. However, she was gradually attracted by the excitement in the teacher’s voice. “He’s actually enjoying this,” she thought. When the class would be soon over, there were still fifteen students’ papers not read, including Lily’s paper. Then, Mr. Johnson announced his decision, asking these students to read their work themselves in front of the class next class.

A week later, the bell rang and the Language Arts class began again. Lily was nervous with her head down. After other students finished reading the papers one by one, finally, it was Lily’s turn. Frozen with fear, Lily stood in front of the class, with her hands holding her paper, shaking. Seeing it, Mr. Johnson told a funny joke, which made all laugh. Feeling more relaxed, Lily began reading. She was so focused that she felt she was alone. She didn’t notice that her story soon attracted all her classmates who sat up straight, without any chatting. They were lost in her fantastic story.
After Lily finished her reading, the clapping from her classmates continued for a long time. Lily was shocked. When she raised her head, she found everyone staring at her excitedly. Lily finally smiled. She found everyone in the class responded to her story positively. After that class, Lily slowly lifted her head while walking. Later, she kept writing. And she began speaking in front of people and enjoyed it. A braver and more confident girl appeared. And she was grateful to Mr. Johnson who believed in every student.
