表示过去的习惯或者常态，但是现在已经不存在，其后接动词原形，且不与确定的过去时间连用。

As dead as a dodo
As dead as a dodo
1.Are you looking at me Do you know me I'm a dodo! You may think I'm just a character in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Actually, there used to be thousands of us-for real. But now you can only see us in museums.
2.We lived on an island in the Indian Ocean. In the happy old days, there was plenty of （充足的）food to eat. All the other animals were friendly(有好的). What a peaceful（宁静的，平静的） and safe life!
3.However, in 1598, humans arrived. They cut down the trees and our lovely forest was gone. They hunted us because we were slow and couldn't fly. What's more, their pigs, cats and dogs ate our eggs. As a result, we soon died out.
4.So today we are standing in museums around the world. When you see us, please remember our sad story. The world is full of fantastic animals. Please try your best to help them. Make them as happy as a clam, not as dead as a dodo.

Humans cut down trees, hunted dodos, and their animals ate dodo eggs
The dodo was a big bird that lived in the Indian Ocean. It was a friendly bird that couldn't fly. It lived in forests and ate plants and fruits.
But humans cut down the forests where the dodos lived, taking away their homes. The dodos couldn't fly away to escape. To make things worse, pigs, cats, and dogs liked to eat the dodo's eggs.
Sadly, because of losing their homes and having their eggs eaten, the dodos couldn't survive. They all died out and now we can only see them in pictures or museums.
This story teaches us that we need to be careful with nature and protect the homes of animals. Let's make sure we help keep animals safe and happy, so they don't disappear like the dodo did.

The passenger pigeon once lived in North America. It was grey and about 40 cm long. It lived in very large groups and could fly fast. Often, millions of passenger pigeons flew together. The animal died out because people hunted it. They were easy to shoot. The last known passenger pigeon died in 1914 . We should protect wildlife to prevent more animals from becoming extinct.
