III. Teaching Procedures
1. Warm-up: Travel Guessing Game
- Show pictures of famous attractions around the world (e.g., Eiffel Tower, Great Wall, Red Square, Alexander Garden) one by one on the multimedia screen.
- Ask students to guess the names of the places and the countries they are in. For each correct guess, the student gets a small sticker.
- After showing the picture of Red Square and Alexander Garden, ask: "Do you know which country these places are in Would you like to visit it " Invite several students to share their answers.
- Class Discussion: Pose the question "Have you ever been to a place that left a deep impression on you What did you learn from that trip " to the whole class. Let students raise their hands and share their stories. Walk around to encourage more students to participate.
2. Pre-reading: Vocabulary and Prediction
- Vocabulary Introduction with Interaction:
- Show pictures of the attractions mentioned in the diary (Victory Museum, Moscow Metro, Red Square) on the multimedia screen. For each picture:
- Hold up a flashcard with the attraction's name. Say the name aloud and ask students to repeat after you.
- Ask questions to engage students, e.g., for Victory Museum: "What do you think people can learn from the Victory Museum " Let students discuss in pairs for 1 minute, then invite pairs to share their ideas.
- For Moscow Metro: "Look at the picture of the Moscow Metro. How does it make you feel Why " Have a whole-class discussion, calling on different students to answer.
- Prediction Activity:
- Show the diary entries (17 July and 18 July) with the content covered. Ask students: "Vincent is writing about his holiday in Moscow. What do you think he might write about What places do you think he visited "
- Divide students into groups of 3 - 4. Give each group 3 minutes to discuss and write down their predictions.
- Each group sends a representative to share their predictions with the class. Write the predictions on the blackboard and praise creative ideas.
3. While-reading: Comprehension Activities
- Activity 1b: Read and Answer Questions (Pair Work)
- Distribute handouts of Vincent's diary entries (17 July and 18 July).
- Ask students to read the diaries carefully. Then, pair up with a classmate.
- Assign the two questions: "1. What places did Vincent visit 2. How did he feel during the trip " to each pair.
- Give students 8 minutes to read and find the answers together. Walk around to provide help, such as guiding students to find key sentences in the text.
- After 8 minutes, randomly select pairs to share their answers with the class. For each correct answer, give the pair a sticker. Also, ask other students if they have different answers or want to add more information.
- Activity 1c: Complete the Timeline (Group Competition)
- Show the timeline on the multimedia screen (with parts blank for 17 July at noon, during dinner; 18 July in the morning, in the afternoon).
- Divide the class into 4 - 5 groups. Explain that each group needs to complete the timeline based on the diary content.
- Set a timer for 5 minutes. The first group to complete the timeline correctly gets a small prize (e.g., a pack of stickers for the group).
- After the competition, check the answers with the whole class. Have a representative from the winning group explain how they found each piece of information in the diary.
4. Post-reading: Discussion and Sharing
- Activity 1d: Think-Pair-Share
- Ask students to read the question: "What can you learn from Vincent's travel experience Make a list of your ideas and share them with a partner."
- First, give students 3 minutes to think individually and write down their ideas.
- Then, students pair up and share their lists. Encourage them to ask each other questions like "Why do you think that " or "Can you tell me more about that ".
- Walk around to listen to the pairs and provide feedback, such as praising good ideas or helping students express their thoughts more clearly.
- Invite several pairs to share their ideas with the class. Write down the key points on the blackboard, and ask the class if they agree or have additional ideas.
- Group Discussion: My Holiday Learning (Role Play)
- Divide students into groups of 4. Ask each group to imagine they are travel bloggers sharing their holiday learning experiences.
- Each member in the group takes turns to be the blogger, and the others are the audience asking questions.
- Give groups 10 minutes to prepare their role plays. Walk around to join the discussions, offer ideas, and help with language use.
- Invite 2 - 3 groups to perform their role plays in front of the class. The rest of the class can ask questions after each performance.
5. Extension Activity: Diary Writing and Sharing

- The date.
- Places visited.
- What they did.

- Sharing Circle: After students finish writing, form a circle. Each student takes a turn to read their diary entry aloud. After each reading, the class can give one positive comment, such as "I like how you described the food" or "That sounds like a fun trip!".
6. Summary and Homework
- Summary (Whole-Class Interaction): Stand in front of the blackboard and point to the key points (places, feelings, learning points). Ask students to recall and repeat the information.
