Missing Li Bai on a Spring Day
Du Fu
Here by the northern Wei, springtime trees;
East of the Yangzi, clouds at the close of day.
When can we again hold a cup of wine,
And chat about poem-writing line by line
Li Bai and Du Fu, two of the greatest poets in Chinese history, formed a lasting friendship. Stories of their friendship have come down to this very day.
The two poets first met in the year 744, when Li Bai, already a well-know poet, was 43 years of age and Du Fu was 32. they admired each other and quickly became friends. Though the two poets met only a couple of times during their lives, their shared love of poems kept them close together. They wrote many poems to and about each other. In one poem, Du Fu wrote:
The relationship between Li Bai and Du Fu show that shared interests form the basis of true friendship, which ties one heart to the other no matter how far away they are from each other.

“Auld lang syne” is a traditional folk Scots song written by robert burns in 1788. the song’s Scots title maybe translated into English literally as “Old Long Since”, or more idiomatically ,” long long ago,” “ days gone by” or “old times”. The Chinese version is “友谊地久天长”. It is the theme song of Waterloo Bridge.
