1. pack up things 打包东西(教材P12 1a)
既可作及物动词短语,也可作不及物动词短语。若其宾语为代词,代词应放在pack与up之间。
Pack them up and send them to poor children. 将它们打包,送给贫困的孩子。
【拓】pack还可作名词,常见用法有:
(1)小盒;小包
She bought a pack of biscuits for the trip. 她买了一包饼干路上吃。
(2)包;包裹
He carried a heavy pack on his back. 他背着一个沉重的包。
2. hang up photos 挂照片 (教材P12 1a)
(1)hang up意为“挂起”,为“动词+副词”型短语,接宾语时宾语的位置如下:
hang +代词 + up
hang up +名词 = hang + 名词 + up
hang up 挂起;挂断电话 (hang-hung-hung)
(2) hang up还可意为“挂断电话”,其对应短语为hang on “别挂电话,等一下”。I said goodbye and hung up.

意群(Sense Group)
意群是句子内部意义相对完整的一组词。意群的界限是相对的。一个句子可以是一个大意群,也可分为若干个小意群,句子内的意群之间停顿时间较短,用一根竖直线(|)标出。句子和句子之间的停顿时间较长,用两根竖直线(||)标出。例如:
Home is a place of love. || It always welcomes me | with open arms | —and perhaps | a plate of freshly-made biscuits.
每个意群要一口气说完。在说每个意群时,要注意词与词之间的连读、不完全爆破和词的弱读等现象。
判断一个句子的意群可以依据以下几个方法:
1.语法结构
主谓宾结构:主语、谓语、宾语各自或组合可构成意群。例如 “He plays football” 中,“He” 是主语,构成一个意群;“plays” 是谓语,“plays football” 这个动宾结构也可看作一个意群 。
修饰成分:定语、状语等修饰语常与被修饰词构成意群。像 “She is a beautiful girl” 里,“a beautiful girl” 中,“beautiful” 修饰 “girl” ,它们构成一个意群 。
2.语义关联
语义完整单元:具有相对完整语义的部分是意群。比如 “I went to the park to play football” ,“to the park” 表达去的地点,语义完整,是一个意群;“to play football” 表明去公园的目的,也是一个意群。
逻辑关系:按照句子逻辑来划分。例如 “Because it rained, we stayed at home” ,“Because it rained” 表达原因,是一个意群;“we stayed at home” 表达结果,是另一个意群 。
3.朗读节奏
自然停顿:朗读时自然停顿的地方往往是意群分隔处。正常语速下,人们会在语义相对独立的地方停顿,如 “He is reading a book /quietly in the room” ,“He is reading a book” 和 “quietly in the room” 中间自然停顿,分别是不同意群 。
