Each year many people get lost in the mountains. Losing one's way in the forest can be an uneasy and terrible experience. However, if you find you've got lost, stop at once. In many cases, you will find that following your footsteps will bring you back to the road. If not, follow these steps:
Stay calm. If you get lost, panic is your greatest enemy. If you run wildly around, even for a little while you could lose your sense of direction. Try to remember how you got to your present location.
Start marking. Leave markers wherever you go, so you can return back. Also, if people try to rescue(营救)you, they will look for markers. So make as many of them as you can. On every turn, try to mark the direction you are taking. You got off the road, maybe ten minutes ago, so if you retrace(折回)more than that time, you know you are on the wrong way.
Stay put. Remember that if you can't retrace your steps, then it's better to just stay where you are and let the searchers find you. Sing loudly or shout for help when you hear others trying to find you. If you have a whistle (哨子), blow it. Moreover, stay in the open so they can find you easily. Do not hide in the unseen areas.
Follow down a river. It can be hard to go but will often lead to a road. And you will finally come back to a village or a town.

Asking for help can be hard for some people. But because it's almost certain that there will be a time when you need help, you should know how to request it. But how 6
Remind yourself that everyone needs help sometime.
Asking for help will seem difficult if you believe that you're the only one who needs it. This is simply not the case(事实). Everyone, at one point or another, will ask for advice, or any other kind of help. 7 The sooner you realize this, the easier it will be for you to ask for it.
8
You can create an environment where everyone is willing(愿意)to help if you are helpful yourself. You don't have to wait for someone to clearly request it. Instead, you can be proactive(积极主动的)and ask others if there's anything you can do for them.
If someone does ask for help, do everything you can to help them. If you're not open to being helpful, 9
Use words like "please" and "thank you".
Whenever you're asking for something, you should use words like "please" and "thank you". It's good manners(礼貌), and not doing so may make what you're asking for sound like a demand(命令)rather than a request.

Sadly, the beaches of Ghana, a country in West Africa, are among these places. Now, the beaches are covered with clothing waste. People from all over the world donate clothes to charities (慈善机构). However, charity shops only sell up to 20 percent of donated clothes, according to The Guardian. The unsold clothes are then put in large bags and travel to other countries to be sold again or for waste disposal (处理).
The Kantamanto Market in Accra, the capital of Ghana, is one of the world’s largest second-hand clothing markets. Every week, about 15 million pieces of clothes arrive at Kantamanto. But about 40 percent of them leave the market as waste.

Culture shock is the feeling of uncertainty, confusion, or anxiety that people may get when they live in or visit another country that differs from their own. 40 It can undoubtedly influence people’s lives. The following are some ways to deal with culture shock.
Have a good understanding of culture and culture shock. There are many factors that make up a culture, including shared beliefs, traditions and morals. 41 It’s because they are surrounded by people with the same beliefs and values, and cultural differences are only clear when you meet someone else’s culture.
Keep a journal (日记) of your thoughts. 42 And you are feeling a bit overwhelmed (不知所措的) with the culture there. Rather than giving in to your anxiety, write it out. Write down how you felt at the moment and what troubled you or made you happy that day. You can also put something down if you’re missing anyone from your hometown. 43 Don’t allow yourself to become a recluse (隐居者) during this experience. You can share your feelings and experiences with your relatives and friends. If you are studying abroad and have other classmates who have similar feelings, connect with them as well as with those who are adjusting a bit more easily.
Do some things you usually like. Don’t allow the culture shock to occupy your mind. And try to do something interesting to replace a range of negative emotions, including anxiety, sadness, anger, homesickness, and sometimes even depression. 44 Or practice your hobbies like reading and dancing.

Students pass their schoolwork through different hands, from their group leaders to the class representative (课代表) , and finally to the teacher. It might not sound too difficult, but sometimes it can go wrong and take a lot of time.
To deal with this problem, Zhang Xirui from Shenzhen Gezhi Academy in Guangdong came up with a useful tool—a smart homework collection robot. This won him first prize in the20th Guangdong Provincial Children’s Invention Awards.
The robot uses radio frequency identification (RFID射频识别) technology—a reader and a special tag (标签) that can share information without touching each other. This way, it can help find and know what it is looking for. Each student’s notebook has a special RFID tag with his or her name and the subject. Students only need to place their notebooks on the robot, and the machine “sees” the notebook, reads its tag and takes it out of the name list. “Teachers can check who hasn't turned in homework by connecting their phones with the robot through WiFi”, the 13-year-old explained to Shenzhen Satellite TV.
▲ Now, he’s planning to develop a third-generation and hopes to use ultra-high- frequency (超高频) radio technology to read lots of RFID tags from far away. That means if you stick a special tag on your notebook, the robot can read the information from a thick stack (堆) of notebooks at once. Zhang believes this is the key to how artificial intelligence can make life easier for us.
Zhang dreams of becoming a scientist when he grows up. “I have tried making model airplanes and other scientific and creative projects. Inventing has brought me joy and happiness,” he said.

How I study English
I often hear some students say English is difficult, and it gives them a headache. So they can’t learn it well. But English is very easy for me. I’m good at it. I’m very glad to tell you something about how I study English.
First, I think an interest in English is very important. When I was in Grade One, we had a new subject—English. It was fresh for me. I was interested in it, so I worked hard at it. Soon we had an English exam and I got a very good mark. How happy I was! After that, I learned English harder and harder. Our English teacher often teaches us English songs. The songs sound nice. I often think how interesting English is!
Second, I think English is a foreign language. I should learn it well in the following ways: Listen to the teacher carefully, speak bravely, read aloud and have a good vocabulary (词汇) . Then practice again and again, never be tired. And I also have a good habit: Asking whenever I have a question, I must make it clear by asking our English teacher. How happy I am when I understand!
Besides this, I often read English stories, jokes and easy novels. From these I know English is not only interesting, but also useful. They help me understand a lot of things. So to do more reading is an important way to learn English well.
And I also do some exercises from our class magazines, and I often write English diaries. English has become a close friend of mine.
Now I have learned English for more than two years. I always keep the first position in our school. From these words, I hope every student can learn English well.

Every English learner needs to know how to ask for something in English. There are a number of ways to do this.
If you know someone has something, you can ask for it with a polite question. If you don’t know, it’s possible to ask for something with a yes or no question. Be careful not to use the direct expressions. In other words, don’t say “Give me that”, but ask kindly as the following examples, “Do you have a pen I could borrow ” “Is there any wine ” “Did you buy any bread ”
If you know or see someone has something, ask a polite question with “could”, “may” or “might”. It’s also possible to use “can” in some special situations. In the past, “can” was not used when people asked for something, but meant ability. In the UK, people mainly use “Can you lend me… ” or “Can I have… ” In the US, this is still considered to be wrong and “May I have… ” is preferred.
It’s common to use “Could you lend/hand/give… ” You can also use “May/Can I borrow… ” “Could/Can you lend me… ” “May I have… ” “Could you hand/give me… ” Do not begin a sentence with “please”, but you can add “please” at the end of the sentence to be polite.

We all know that the British people love their manners (礼仪). They are part of their national identity (特性), as well as having fish and chips and complaining about the weather. Recently I read online that they say “sorry” up to eight times a day.
After some research I have not been able to find any specific reasons why they are like this. I suppose, for centuries, manners, including how they behave at table and talk to other people have been one of the differences between the lower and upper classes and those manners show their social classes. Britain has traditionally been a quite conservative (保守的) country. There are many articles suggesting that their seemingly polite attitude of always saying “please” and “thank you” is quite false because it is impossible for a person to always feel that he or she wants to thank someone or say “please”.
Maybe it is for this reason that people are going one of two ways: they are too polite and hold back their feelings or they are not polite at all and express their true feelings directly. Some British people are tired of pretending that they are always happy and having to please others. But sometimes because they feel they have to be polite, they are prevented from saying what they truly think.

A.Eating fish and chips. B.Having no good manners.

Whether you are teaching an elementary Spanish class or passing on Spanish to your children, it is important to teach children good manners. And there are culturally proper behaviors that children need to know.
These five behaviors are considered good manners throughout Latin America. Of course, these are good manners in the US too, but they are not given as much attention because the opposite behavior is not considered particularly rude. In Spanish-speaking countries, however, the opposite behavior is negative and can change the impression people have of children (and adults)!
All of these good manners can be practiced by children with different language levels.
Good manners to teach kids learning Spanish.
1. When you hand something to someone, put it directly into her hand. Do not toss things at people.
2. Keep your feet on the floor. Do not put your feet on chairs.
3. When you move away from a group of people or leave a room, say con permiso. Do not just walk away.
4. If someone sneezes, say salud, which means “take care” in English.
5. When you arrive, greet everyone. When you leave, say goodbye to everyone.
There are lots of resources for teaching children good manners in Spanish. Many polite behaviors also involve language. Here you will find resources for teaching polite expressions, including books and a song. There are also YouTube videos that teach polite behaviors.
In my experience, kids are interested in what is considered polite behavior in different cultures, and they want to learn to act properly. We work hard teaching them to use Spanish. Cheng Yuyan, 25, the founder of the “We Love Strolling (散步) in the Park” interest group on Douban, never expected that the interest group would now have 100,000 members. Park lovers from both home and abroad share their park experiences, post photos taken in parks, and give likes and reviews of parks. Within this group, there is an idea called “20 minutes for parks”. It suggests that spending just 20 minutes in a park each day can help lower stress, no matter how you choose to spend that time.
Huang Bingbing, a Shenzhen-based practitioner (实践者) of this idea, began visiting the small park downstairs from her company office during her weekday lunch breaks over three years ago. “On that piece of grass, I could connect with living plants and animals. It allowed me to get away from the stress of work and refresh my mind,” Huang explained.
Huang believes that parks are private spaces. She considers herself a shy person, and parks serve as the perfect place for her. She often spends time alone in parks, free from worrying about the social communication.
At the same time, parks also work as public spaces. Cheng believes people can further deepen their connection with parks by developing a sense of ownership. She recalls her experiences of visiting parks in Japan. She noticed that park benches (长椅), given away by local people, had their givers’ nameplates. She plans to encourage members of her Douban group to have similar responsibilities. “I hope this group shows more social responsibility. Each of us can become a protecter and contributor (贡献者) to the parks and our city,” she said.

Living in a culture that is different from your own can be a both exciting and challenging experience. You have to learn different cultural practices and try to fit in with them.
Privacy—Chinese people don’t have the same idea of privacy as Americans do. Chinese people often talk about ages, income or marriage, but Americans think it’s impolite to talk about them.
Family—It’s a tradition in China to show great respect to the elders and give love and care to the young. American families usually try to encourage independence, especially the independence of children. Unlike the Chinese, old Americans don’t like to live with their children.
Friends—Chinese people and Americans have different opinions about friends. For the Chinese, just hanging out together from time to time is not friendship. Friendship means lifelong friends. They feel deeply honest to give each other whatever help might seem required. Americans always call all the people they meet “friends”, so the meaning of friends is general and different. There are work friends, playing friends, school friends and drinking friends.
Money—As is well known, the Chinese like to save. They are always clever to spend little when they are planning to spend money. It is different in the USA, where far fewer families are saving money for future use or education.
Education—Chinese people usually think education is very important in life. Well, Americans pay more attention to good character and faith (信仰).
Collectivism vs. Individualism (集体主义与个人主义)—If you achieve something in the US, it’s because you are great and have the ability. While in China, if you achieve something, it’s because the team or the family is great.

Have you met someone who kept talking and talking, and you couldn’t get them to stop You don’t want to be impolite by telling them to shut up, but you really want to get out of the conversation. Here are some ways to help you.
Use body language. While it may feel impolite, you could turn away, leave your headphones on, and avoid looking at his or her eyes, which will show that you don’t want to talk. This may save you from directly telling someone to stop talking later on.
Keep working on whatever activity you are doing. Get up and move around, be active and find little things to do instead of listening.
Interrupt them as soon as you can. Saying things like “I’d like to add something” or “If I could interrupt you for just a minute” will often let someone know that they are talking too much.
Lead the conversation. This is especially helpful when dealing with someone you often talk to. Let them know that you heard what they said and guide the conversation in a different direction.
Mention that you don’t have a lot of time to talk. Expressions like “I would love to chat(聊天) but I have to go for a movie right now” and “Today’s not a great day to talk. I have a lot of tasks” will make you easily end the conversation.
