1.连接代词和连接副词引导的宾语从句
我们可用连接代词(what、which、who、whom、whose)和连接副词(where、when、how、why等)引导宾语从句,连接代词和副词有具体含义,并在从句中充当成分,因此不可省略。此时从句部分的语义相当于一个特殊疑问句。

注意:
(1)由连接代词和连接副词引导的宾语从句含有疑问语气,但要用陈述语序:连接词+主语+谓语+其他。例如:
I wonder what they are looking for. 我想知道他们在找什么。
(2)当连接代词what、who等在特殊疑问句中充当主语时,该特殊疑问句本身就是陈述语序,所以当这样的句子用来作宾语时,语序不需要调整。例如:
We don’t know who locked the door. 我们不知道是谁锁的门。

宾语从句的时态:若主句是一般现在时,宾语从句要根据语境选择需要的时态;若主句是一般过去时,宾语从句通常要用过去的某种时态;若宾语从句表示的是客观事实或普遍真理,那么无论主句是什么时态,从句都要用一般现在时。例如:
I am not sure whose notebook this is. 我不确定这是谁的笔记本。
They knew when Jim would come. 他们知道吉姆什么时候会来。
The teacher said two and three makes five. 老师说二加三等于五。

不可数名词,in silence 意为“沉默地”。
e.g. Most of the students were in silence in front of the strict teacher.

reply 作名词,常用词组
① a reply to...
对……的答复
② make a reply (to...)
(对……的) 答复
辨析:reply 与answer
reply 作动词,意为“回答,答复”。比answer 正式,一般指经过思考,有针对性地回答、回复别人的问题、信件、祝贺等。reply 不能直接接宾语,要加to, 即reply to= answer。
answer 多用于“回答问题(answer the question) ”或“接电话(answer the telephone) ”等。
e.g. He replied to my letter. 他给我回了信。
