Content Analysis
The project of this unit is to create a simple family tree and use it to introduce each family member.
This activity not only encourages students to pay attention to extended family members (such as grandparents’ relatives) but also sparks their interest in tracing family history, and helps them sort out family relationships and each member’s information. Additionally, it cultivates their ability to use structured diagrams, broadens their cultural horizons, and deepens their understanding of the social attributes of families.
Family trees can be presented in different forms, each containing varying information. Activity 3a provides a simple template, asking students to create their own family diagram based on this example and, optionally, attach photos of each family member. Activity 3b requires students to write a paragraph introducing their family members one by one according to their actual situations, including specific details such as age, appearance, personality, and hobbies. Activity 3c then asks students to combine the completed diagram from 3a and the written introduction from 3b to deliver a detailed oral introduction of their family to the whole class.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this section, students will be able to:
1. understand the purpose and basic structure of a family tree, and manually draw the diagram or create a digital version based on their own family circumstances;
2. use the target language of this unit to introduce each family member in the family tree through written and oral expressions;
3. further understand the concept of “family” by creating a family tree, thereby strengthening emotional bonds with family members.

Step 1 Warm-up and lead-in Play a video to lead in the topic and ask students to sing along with it. Step 3 Practice Ask students to draw their family tree and write about it. T: Let’s make a family tree like the one below, then stick the photos of your family members on it. T: Now, let’s write about your family members. T: Make an outline and draft your passage according to your outline. Draw a family tree and label the members of your family. To guide students to review and apply the unit’s theme and the target language.
