Students can have a deep understanding of the formation of words and use it correctly to describe your experience with friends.教学过程Step 1 Review Present some pictures of Max in Reading part and invite students to say something about him. Step 2 Read and think Read the sentences about Max on page14 and answer some questions. Step 3 Work out the rules Pay attention to the words in bold and think: Q: What part of speech are words in bold Divide the adjectives into 2 groups, and think: Q: Why What do they end in -ful and -less are called suffixes. A suffix is a letter or a group of letters added to the end of a word to make another word. Observe the words again Q: What rule can you find We can add -ful and -less to some nouns to form adjectives. This is the formation of words. The suffix -ful means “full of” and the suffix -less means “without”. Pay attention to the words: helpful ← help → helpless Look at the meanings of each word and find the relationship between -ful and -less: -ful = full of ←opposite→ -less= without Then show more words on the book page 14. Find out the rule: n. + -ful → adj. -ful=full of opposite n. + -less → adj. -less=without Step 4 Practise Finish part A on page 14 Check the answers in groups and share the answers. Pay attention to special words. Tip: Not all words have both -ful and -less as suffixes. endful (×) endless ( √ ) What is a true friend like Choose correct adjectives in the table to finish the paragraph. Then read the paragraph together. Finish part B on page 14 Check the answers in pairs and share with each other. Step 5 Brainstorm Take out a piece of paper and write as many words with the suffix -ful or -less as you can. Step 6 Work in groups What is your best friend like And what unforgettable experience do you have with your best friend Use words with the suffix -ful or -less to describe an experience you had with a friend and share it in groups. Share teacher’s experience. Step 7 Summary and homework Friendships enrich our lives. And wonderful friends make our lives colourful and meaningful. Homework: Compulsory homework Review the suffixes and adjectives learned in this lesson, and master the rules. Choose 5 new words ending in -ful and -less and make up a sentence for each word with the theme of “friendship”.
