SHOW TIME
Scene 1
The captain of Troy is standing on the high wall of the city. He is looking down at the empty sea.
Captain: We’ve finally won! The Greeks have gone. They’ve sailed away.
(A soldier enters.)
Soldier: Captain, Captain, look over there. We’ve found a huge wooden horse.
Captain: Ah, yes. The Greeks didn’t want to take it with them. Get some help and pull it into the city. That won’t be difficult. It’s on wheels.
Soldier: But why is it on wheels I think that maybe the Greeks want us to...
Captain: (Stopping the soldier) You’re a soldier. It’s not your job to think. Your job is to obey orders, and I’m giving you one now. Move that horse!
Soldier: Yes, sir!
(The soldier leaves.)
Scene 2
All the Trojans celebrate in the main square, by the wooden horse.
Captain: We Trojans can’t be beaten! Let’s enjoy the night!
Scenes: The Greeks are so stupid! Ha! Ha!
Scene 3
The party is over. The Trojans lock all the gates of the city and go to sleep. Greek soldiers in the wooden horse talk.
Greek Soldier 1: (Whispering) The Trojans are all asleep now.
Greek Soldier 2: Good. Let’s wait a little longer to make sure they’re really not awake.
Greek Soldier 3: Right. Then we’ll open the secret door and get out.
Greek Soldier 1: Once we’re out, we’ll go to the main gate. Our army is waiting outside.
Greek Soldier 2: This trick will work. The Trojans will never expect it.
Greek Soldier 3: Let’s stay quiet and be ready. Soon, Troy will be ours.
Scene 4
By midnight, the main square is empty except for the huge wooden horse. Inside, Greek soldiers wait nervously. After another hour, they carefully open the secret door on the horse’s side and climb out.
Greek Soldier 1: (Whispering) Stay low and move quietly to the main gate.
Greek Soldier 2: (Pointing) Look, no guards around. Let’s hurry.
Greek Soldier 3: (Signaling to others outside) They’re here! Open the gate!
(The main gate opens, and Greek soldiers from outside rush in.)
Scene 5
The Greeks, with their clever trick, capture Troy without a major fight, ending a decade-long struggle.
Greek General: (Commanding) Secure all key points! Don’t let any Trojan escape!
Trojan Citizen: (Waking up, panicked) What’s happening The Greeks are here!
Captain of Troy: (Rushing out, shocked) How did they get in We’re betrayed!
Rhythm (strong and weak sounds)
In stressed syllables, the pronunciation of the vowels is clear and long. The pronunciation of the vowels in unstressed syllables is unclear and short. This adds rhythm to words and sentences when we speak.
节奏(重读和弱读):在重读音节中,元音的发音清晰且长。非重读音节中元音的发音不那么清晰且短。在我们说话时,重读和弱读会给单词和句子增添节奏感。

Listen to the poem below. Pay attention to the rhythm.
There once was a man called Ed Heath,
Who sat on his set of false teeth.
He said, with a start.
“Oh, bless my poor heart!
I’ve bitten myself underneath!”
注意:一般来说,多数代词是不重读的,如her, me, it, them等。但一部分代词,如指示代词和疑问代词(this, what等),通常需重读。
