资源简介

仁爱科普版八年级上册英语Unit 2 Lesson 3: Thinking Skills and Reading Strategies教学设计
Core Literacy Objectives
Through this lesson, students will be able to:
Develop linguistic competence by mastering instrument-classification vocabulary (string, beat, keyboard, wind instruments) and expressions related to the benefits of music and conclusion deduction.
Enhance reading competence by classifying detailed information and drawing conclusions based on texts and background knowledge, thereby improving logical thinking ability.
Cultivate cultural awareness and aesthetic perception by appreciating the beauty of music and art, learning the diligent spirit of famous figures, and fostering qualities of perseverance and exploration.
Improve thinking quality by analyzing, classifying information, and drawing conclusions in reading tasks.
2. Key Points and Difficulties
Key Points: Mastery of instrument-classification vocabulary; application of "classifying details" and "drawing conclusions" strategies in reading.
Difficulties: Effective application of the "drawing conclusions" strategy; in-depth analysis and classification of text details.
3. Teaching Methods
Lecture, Task-based Reading
4. Teaching Aids
PPT, Blackboard
5. Preview Assignment
Look up the names of three musical instruments and their respective types.
6. Teaching Procedures (Procedures and Content)
Step Procedures and Content Side Notes: Design Intent
Step 1: Lead-in 1. Guide students to read and understand the thinking skill of "classifying details".2. Ask students to observe the pictures in Activity 1 and answer the following questions: - How many musical instruments can you see in the picture What are they - Can you classify these instruments - What might the text be about This design starts by introducing the "classifying details" thinking skill to help students clarify the focus of learning. Observing pictures and answering questions activates students’ prior knowledge of musical instruments and helps them predict the text content, laying a foundation for subsequent reading activities.
Step 2: Reading & Learning 1. Have students read the text, study the detail-classification chart, and further understand the "classifying details" skill.2. Ask students to read the text in Activity 2, complete the detail-classification chart independently, and then check answers as a class.3. Guide students to retell the text based on the completed detail-classification chart. Reading with the guidance of a detail-classification chart helps students grasp the text structure and key information efficiently. Retelling the text based on the chart not only enhances students’ ability to organize and express information but also deepens their understanding of the text content.
Step 3: Thinking & Sharing 1. Arrange pair work: Ask students to discuss the benefits of music based on the content of Activity 2.2. Encourage pairs to brainstorm more benefits of music and add them to the detail-classification chart.3. Invite several groups to share their completed charts; organize the whole class to conduct peer assessment. Pair work and class sharing encourage students to think deeply about the benefits of music, express their ideas clearly, and learn from each other. Peer assessment helps develop students’ critical thinking and evaluation abilities, promoting interactive learning in the class.
Step 4: Reading Strategies 1. Guide students to read and understand the "drawing conclusions" reading strategy.2. Ask students to look at the picture in Activity 1 and predict the main idea of the corresponding text.3. Have students read the text and the steps of the "drawing conclusions" strategy to understand how to apply this strategy in reading.4. Assign students to read a short text, complete sentences by drawing conclusions, and then check answers together.5. Let students read the new text in Activity 3 to practice applying the "drawing conclusions" strategy independently. Introducing and practicing the "drawing conclusions" strategy step by step helps students master effective reading methods, improve their reading comprehension ability, and learn to apply this strategy to new reading materials, laying a foundation for future independent reading.
7. Summary
Students have learned vocabulary related to instrument types and art training.
Students have mastered the "classifying details" thinking skill and the "drawing conclusions" reading strategy.
8. Homework
Review and memorize the vocabulary of musical instruments.
Use a chart to classify details of a short text (related to art or music) chosen independently.
9. Blackboard Design
Unit 2. The World of Art
Lesson 3. Thinking Skills and Reading Strategies
Thinking Skill: Classifying details
Definition: When you classify details, you group similar details together based on shared features.
Reading Strategy: Drawing conclusions
Key: Combine text information + background knowledge
Key Vocabulary:
Instrument types: string, beat, keyboard, wind instruments
Music benefits: relaxation, creativity, emotional comfort
10. Teaching Reflection
During the practice of the "drawing conclusions" strategy, some students struggled to connect text information with their background knowledge, leading to incomplete or inaccurate conclusions. In future lessons, I will design more guided practice with step-by-step prompts to help students master the strategy.
Additionally, the text used in this lesson was relatively formal. To increase student engagement, I will select more interesting and life-related texts for strategy practice in subsequent classes.
When guiding students to classify details, I found that some groups rushed through the discussion due to limited time, resulting in superficial classification. In the future, I will allocate more time for group discussions and ask each group to explain their classification logic, ensuring students deeply understand the "classifying details" skill.
