Lesson Plan for Unit 4 Reading Class (40 minutes)
I. Teaching Objectives
Knowledge Objectives
Students will master key vocabulary and phrases: "be crazy about", "handyman", "power cut", "pipe", "shelf", "catch one's eye", "make a mistake", etc.
Students will understand and use sentence structures: "He tried to... but...", "It is + adj. + for sb. to do sth.", etc.
Ability Objectives
Students will improve reading skills like skimming, scanning, and detailed reading.
Students will be able to use the new vocabulary and sentence structures in speaking and writing.
Emotional Objectives
Students will develop an interest in DIY and appreciate the fun of creating things by hand.

Mastery of key vocabulary and sentence structures.
Practice using the language points in different activities.

Using the new vocabulary and sentence structures accurately and fluently in communication.

V. Teaching Procedures
1. Warm - up (5 minutes)
Teacher's Activity: Show pictures of various DIY projects (e.g., a hand - made shelf, a painted wall, a self - made lamp). Ask: "Do you like DIY What DIY things have you done "
Students' Activity: Share their DIY experiences.
2. Pre - reading (7 minutes)
Vocabulary Introduction:
Teacher's Activity: Teach new words and phrases with PPT: "be crazy about" (show a picture of someone enthusiastic about a hobby), "handyman" (explain it means someone good at repairing things), "power cut" (show a picture of a dark house), "pipe" (show a picture of a water pipe), "shelf" (show a picture of a shelf), "catch one's eye" (show a picture of something attractive), "make a mistake" (show a picture of someone making an error). Read them aloud and ask students to repeat.
Students' Activity: Repeat after the teacher and try to remember the words.
Prediction:
Teacher's Activity: Show the title "My cousin and his DIY" and ask: "What do you think the passage is about "
Students' Activity: Guess the content of the passage.
3. While - reading (15 minutes)
Skimming:
Teacher's Activity: Ask students to read the passage quickly and answer: "What is the main idea of the passage "
Students' Activity: Skim the passage and find the main idea.
Scanning:
Teacher's Activity: Ask students to scan the passage and find answers to: "What mistakes did Andrew make "
Students' Activity: Scan the passage and list Andrew's mistakes.
Detailed Reading and Language Points Explanation:
Teacher's Activity:
Read paragraph 2: "Once, he tried to put in a brighter light in his bedroom, but he made a mistake, and his whole house had a power cut." Explain "try to do sth." (attempt to do something) and the structure "but" for contrast.
Read paragraph 3: "Another time, he wanted to put up a picture on the wall, but he hit a pipe and filled the room with water." Explain "want to do sth." and "fill... with...".
Read paragraph 5: "Now my room looks great, and it is easy for me to find my books!" Explain "It is + adj. + for sb. to do sth."
Students' Activity: Listen to the explanation, take notes, and ask questions if any.
4. Post - reading (10 minutes)
Vocabulary Practice:
Teacher's Activity: Play a "Fill in the Blanks" game. Provide sentences with blanks and ask students to fill in with the new vocabulary. For example: "He is ______ DIY. (crazy about)", "I ______ when I was cooking. (made a mistake)".
Students' Activity: Participate in the game and practice using the vocabulary.
