A Note to My Younger Self
Dear 15-year-old self,
When your dream of becoming a famous painter comes true tomorrow, you need to find a way to assist your family and friends in shaping their own futures. This appears simple, but you must take some time to think about it.
I said assist in shaping.
I did not say handle everything for.
Let me explain.
Purely handling every little thing for your family members and friends might seem like the right choice. You love them, and they have always stood by you as you pursued your art, so it seems only right that they should share in the rewards of your success. You might choose their career paths, fix all their troubles, and make sure they never encounter any hardships. You want them to live a smooth life, don’t you
But there will come a day when you realize that even though you believed you were doing the right thing, you were actually holding them back from growing.
You will come to understand that you were assisting them because it made you feel good to see them at ease. That was quite selfish of you. While you were feeling content with yourself, you were slowly chipping away at their own sense of responsibility and self-sufficiency. You were bringing ease to their lives, but taking away the most precious things: independence and growth.
Understand that you are going to be a guiding light for them. This means making hard decisions, even if your family and friends don’t understand them initially.
Assist in shaping their future; don’t just handle everything for them.
Use your reputation, resources and skills to put them in the best position to chase their own dreams and find their own worth. Hold them to the same level of dedication (全身心投入) that it took for you to get to where you are now and where you will eventually go.
I’m writing to you now so that you can begin this process immediately and don’t have to deal with the struggle of getting rid of the addiction you caused. Trust me setting things up right from the beginning will avoid a ton of tears and heartache, some of which remains to this day.
Much love
Your Future Self

The world of fashion is constantly evolving, and one trend that has been gaining momentum in recent years is sustainable fashion. Sustainable fashion refers to clothing, footwear, and accessories that are produced in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. It’s a response to the industry’s long-standing issues, such as excessive resource consumption and immoral labor practices.
One key aspect of sustainable fashion is the use of eco-friendly materials. Unlike traditional cotton, which requires large amounts of water — up to 20,000 liters for a single pair of jeans — and relies on harmful pesticides, designers now favor organic cotton (grown without chemicals), linen (a durable, water-efficient crop), and recycled polyester (made from plastic bottles, reducing waste). These materials cut down on pollution and conserve natural resources.
Another vital factor is ethical production. This means ensuring workers in factories and workshops receive fair wages that cover basic needs, work in safe environments free from dangers, and are not subjected to forced or child labor. Many sustainable brands published reports on their supply chains, letting consumers trace a garment’s journey from raw material to store, and partner with NGO to improve working conditions.
Consumers also play a crucial role. As awareness grows about fashion’s impact — like the 92 million tons of textile waste generated yearly — more people are choosing brands with sustainable practices. This demand has pushed mainstream companies to change: major stores now offer Eco-lines, use recycled packaging, and commit to carbon-neutral goals, proving that consumer choices can drive industry-wide transformation.
8. Why are designers using materials like organic cotton and recycled polyester
A. They are more fashionable.
B. They are cheaper to produce.
C. They have a lower environmental impact.
D. They are easier to obtain.
9. What can we learn about ethical production in sustainable fashion
A. Workers are often overworked and underpaid.
B. Brands usually keep their production processes secret.
C. It aims to ensure fair treatment of workers.
D. It has nothing to do with the well-being of workers.
10. What is the role of consumers in the development of sustainable fashion
A. They have no influence on the fashion industry.
B. Their demand drives mainstream companies to adopt sustainable practices.
C. They only care about the price of fashion items.
D. They prefer fast-fashion brands over sustainable ones.
11. What is the main idea of the passage
A. To introduce the definition of sustainable fashion, its key features and the role of consumers in its development.
B. To compare traditional fashion materials with eco-friendly ones and highlight the advantages of organic cotton.
C. To criticize the long-standing problems of the fashion industry, such as resource waste and unethical labor.
D. To emphasize that mainstream fashion companies are taking the lead in promoting sustainable fashion.

“Staying up all night in the sticky sand, being bitten by mosquitoes — this work isn’t for everyone,” says marine biologist Lisa. Every summer, she and her team camp along the coast, waiting for female red sea turtles to lay eggs. The coastal heat can be unbearable, with temperatures often soaring above 35 degrees Celsius during the day, and the sand remains that heat well into the night. “When a turtle comes ashore, we have to move quietly. One wrong step and she’ll return to the ocean without laying.” Lisa explains. This is how they’ve monitored nesting sites for over two decades. They keep detailed records of each nesting event, noting the size of the turtle, the number of eggs laid, and the location of the nest. “Tiring as it is, seeing baby turtles hatch makes it all worthwhile.” she adds with a smile.
Red sea turtles have been listed as endangered species since 1986. Their numbers dropped sharply due to multiple factors. Unlike some land animals, they aren’t hunted for meat on a large scale, though there are still occasional illegal hunting incidents for their shells, which are mistakenly believed to have medicinal properties. However, plastic pollution poses a severe threat — turtles often mistake plastic bags for jellyfish, their main food. Once swallowed, the plastic can block their digestive systems, leading to slow and painful deaths. Additionally, beach development destroys their nesting grounds. Hotels and resorts built right along the shoreline take up the prime nesting areas, leaving the turtles with fewer safe spots to lay their eggs. Bright lights from these establishments cause baby turtles to crawl toward roads instead of the sea, where they often get hit by cars.
By 2000, fewer than 500 nesting females were recorded annually. To change this trend, conservation groups started relocating eggs to protected hatcheries. Volunteers guard beaches to stop poachers from stealing eggs. They also work with local hotels to dim lights during nesting season. By 2024, the number of nesting females had risen to over 1,200.
“People think sea turtles only matter for the ecosystem, but they’re important for local communities too,” says tourism officer Mike. “Guided turtle-watching tours bring in visitors. Kids love learning about them in our marine centers. Last year, over 10,000 people attended our turtle conservation workshops.”
12. What does Lisa think of her work
A. It is relaxing but boring. B. It is challenging but rewarding.
C. It requires advanced technology. D. It is dangerous and meaningless.
13. What is a major cause of the decline in red sea turtle populations
A. Over-hunting by humans B. Competition from other species
C. Destruction of their habitat D. Natural disasters in the ocean
14. How did conservation groups help red sea turtles
A. By feeding them in hatcheries B. By relocating adult turtles to new areas
C. By protecting their eggs and nesting sites D. By teaching them to avoid plastic pollution
15. Why does the author mention Mike’s words
A. To show the economic value of turtles B. To explain how tourism affects turtles
C. To highlight the multiple roles of turtles D. To prove the success of conservation efforts

How to Build a Successful Study Routine
In the journey of learning, a well-structured study routine can be the key to academic success. It helps you manage your time effectively, stay organized, and maintain a consistent level of learning. ____16____
Set Clear Goals
Before you start studying, it’s crucial to set clear and achievable goals. ____17____ For example, instead of setting a vague goal like “study math,” specify “complete all the exercises in chapter 3 of the math textbook and be able to solve at least 80% of them correctly.” Clear goals give you a sense of direction and make it easier to measure your progress.
Create a Schedule
A well-planned schedule is the backbone of a good study routine. ____18____ Give specific time for each subject, taking into account your energy levels and the difficulty of the subjects. For instance, you might want to study your most challenging subject in the morning when you are fresh-minded. Also, don’t forget to include breaks in your schedule. Short breaks can actually improve your concentration and prevent burnout. A 10-minute break every hour can be very effective.
Find a Suitable Study Environment
The environment in which you study can have a significant impact on your productivity. ____19____ Look for a place that is quiet, well-lit, and free from distractions. This could be a library, a study room at home, or a private corner in a coffee shop. Make sure the space is comfortable, with a proper desk and chair to support good posture during long study sessions.
Use Effective Study Methods
There are various study methods, and finding the ones that work best for you can greatly enhance your learning experience. ____20____ Some students prefer making flashcards for memorization, while others find summarizing the key points of a chapter to be more helpful. Taking notes in class and then reviewing and expanding on them later can also reinforce your understanding. Additionally, teaching the material you’ve learned to someone else is an excellent way to test your knowledge.
A. It gives you a framework to follow and ensures that you cover all the necessary study materials.
B. These goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound(SMART).
C. Here are some essential steps to help you build a successful study routine.
D. Different people learn in different ways.
E. You can start by making a to-do list every day.
F. A good study environment can make you feel more focused and motivated.
G. However, building a study routine requires careful planning and consistent effort.

On the street, I watched the elderly woman struggle with a walker, loaded down with bags of groceries. I’d seen her before, each time feeling guilty I didn’t offer her a lift. This day, I stopped and led her into the car.
“Bless you, child,” she said. She directed me to go farther south. It seemed too far for her to walk everyday. She explained that she usually took a bus but had missed the last one. Gradually, it got dark, and I began to feel uneasy. We continued down unfamiliar streets until she finally pointed to an old apartment building where she lived. Several rowdy (粗鲁的) young men in their early twenties had gathered around the entrance. They were smoking something and appeared threatening. Some were on motorcycles, and one, wearing a hoodie (连帽衫) over his bushy, long hair, was staring at me intently — too intently — and smiling.
I felt uncomfortable, but the woman seemed fine. I stopped the car and helped with her cart and groceries. She thanked me, and I drove away as fast as I could.
Half an hour later, back on the road I knew, I turned on the radio and played some familiar music. Suddenly the peaceful atmosphere was interrupted by the roar of a motorcycle behind me. Slowing down, I was hoping he would pass me. I recognized the biker from the apartment house—the one with the hoodie and bushy hair who kept smiling at me familiarly. He didn’t pass me but continued to drive at the same speed as me. I realized he was waving for me to stop.
Outside, it was pitch-dark. No way was I going to stop on a deserted street. I tried to speed away as fast as I could, but it didn’t stop him. He raced after me again. Getting increasingly anxious, I tried to use the phone to call 911. With my eyes on the road, one hand on the wheel and the other hand searching on the seat next to me for my purse, I felt an empty seat. My purse wasn’t there!

第二节(满分25分)
【47题答案】
【答案】Looking back again, through the rearview mirror (后视镜), I finally saw it — the person was waving with something I recognized. It was my purse! In my haste to help the elderly woman, I must have left it on the roof of the car. The biker, despite his intimidating appearance, had chased me down just to return it. My heart pounded with guilt and relief as I pulled over. He approached slowly, still smiling, and handed me the purse through the window. “You dropped this, miss,” he said kindly, his voice gentle and respectful. I apologized for misjudging him and thanked him sincerely. He simply nodded, turned his motorcycle around, and rode off into the night, leaving me with a powerful lesson about appearances and kindness. When I got back in the car to check my wallet, I found a small note.
Seeing the note in the purse, emotional tears welled up in my eyes. Tucked inside was a small, folded piece of paper with a message written in shaky handwriting: “Thank you for your kindness today. The world needs more people like you. — The old lady you helped.” I realized then that the biker must have been her grandson or someone close to her, watching over her. What I had seen as a threat was actually a gesture of care. That night, I drove home with a full heart, reminded that kindness often comes from the most unexpected places.
