Six months ago, Xie Lei boarded a plane for London. It was the first time that she 1.__________(leave) home. Summary
English structures are different from those in Chinese, but you can figure out what a long sentence means by following a few simple steps.
1. Decide if the sentence is compound (并列句)(look for and, but, or, etc.) or complex(复合句)(look for who, when, where, etc.).
2. Find the main clause(主句)if it is a complex sentence.
3. Look for modifiers(修饰语).
