Laughter, in response to funny events, actually takes a lot of work, because it activates many areas of the brain: areas that control motor, emotional, cognitive and social processing. Researchers now appreciate laughter’s power to improve physical and mental well-being (健康).
People begin laughing when they are babies, which helps develop muscles and upper body strength. Laughter is not just breathing. It relies on complex combinations of facial muscles, often involving movement of the eyes, head and shoulders. By activating the neural (神经的) pathways of emotions like joy, laughter can improve your mood and make your physical response to stress less intense.
A good sense of humor and the laughter that follows depend on an abundant measure of social intelligence and working memory resources. Laughter, like humor, typically comes from recognizing the oddness of a situation. You need to mentally resolve the surprising behavior or event—otherwise you won’t laugh; you might just be confused instead. Inferring the intentions of others and taking their perspective can increase the intensity of the laughter and amusement you feel. To “get” a joke or humorous situation, you need to be able to see the lighter side of things. You must believe that other possibilities besides the literal meaning exist.
Laughter creates bonds with others. Linguist Don Nilsen points out that laughs seldom happen when alone, supporting their strong social role. For example, public speakers and comedians try to get a laugh to make audiences feel psychologically closer to them. By practicing a little laughter each day, you can improve social skills that may not come naturally to you. When you laugh in response to humor, you share your feelings with others and learn from the risks that your response will be accepted by others and not be rejected.
Laughter also produces positive emotions. These feelings—like amusement, happiness and joy—build resiliency (复原力) and increase creative thinking. They increase subjective well-being and life satisfaction. Researchers find that these positive emotions experienced with humor and laughter are related to appreciating the meaning of life.
24.How does laughter help improve our well-being
A.It helps with breathing. B.It activates various brain areas.
C.It affects facial muscles. D.It improves physical strength.
25.What is necessary for experiencing laughter according to Paragraph 3
A.Having a high level of intelligence. B.Maintaining a general outlook on life.
C.Discovering the strangeness of a situation. D.Understanding the literal meaning of a joke.
26.Why do speakers and comedians aim to make listeners laugh
A.To show their wisdom of life. B.To demonstrate their presentation style.
C.To make the presentation more challenging. D.To create psychological closeness with listeners.
27.What is the author’s main purpose in writing the text
A.To stress the positive effects of laughter. B.To provide a general definition of laughter.
C.To highlight the social importance of laughter. D.To instruct readers on how to practice laughter.

I spent this past weekend exploring Edinburgh, Scotland. I went with my program group, CIS Abroad.
On Friday we took the train from London to Edinburgh and arrived in the evening, with just enough time to see around the High Street and have dinner.
On Saturday we visited different castles in the Highlands. The coolest castle that we saw was Doune Castle. The super great part about this castle is that it has been used for many different films, such as Monty Python, The Holy Grail, Outlander and Game of Thrones. In Game of Thrones it was used as the town of Winterfell, which I thought was great.
After Doune Castle we went to Deanston Distillery, which was built in 1966. We went on a tour of the facilities (设备) and saw how they made Scottish whiskey. It was great to see all of the effort that went into it. They showed us the storage room where they kept all of the casks (木桶), and there may be thousands in that room. One of the casks was from 40 years ago; the tour guide said that this cask would sell for about 4,000 pounds a bottle, which would be about 5,300 American dollars! I thought that was unbelievable.
The last day we had some free time to explore the town and shop for gifts. We also saw the most beautiful view of Edinburgh. It seemed like we climbed a million stairs up a hill to see the view, but let me tell you it was totally worth every step.
Scotland now has a special place in my heart. Two days is not enough to learn the city well, so I will certainly be back to one of the most beautiful places on earth.

A.To work as a guide.
B.To pay a visit to the city.
C.To make a film set in the Highlands.

A.It has a long history.
B.One can buy local gifts there.
C.It is well-known as a film-making place.

30.How did the author respond when she heard about the wine in the cask from 40 years ago
A.She thought highly of its quality.
B.She was shocked by its high price.
C.She was surprised at the workers’ great skills.
D.She strongly wanted to bring one bottle home.
31.What did the author think of her time in Edinburgh
A.Hard and boring.
B.Happy but tiring.
C.Long and colorful.
D.Short but enjoyable.

Scientists from China have created a truly remarkable robot hand! Named the “F-TAC Hand”, it was developed by researchers from Peking University and the Beijing Institute for General Artificial Intelligence, and their exciting work was just published in the famous science journal Nature Machine Intelligence on June 9th, 2025.
What makes this robotic hand so special It can feel and adjust its grip just like a human hand can. Imagine trying to pick up a ping-pong ball with just your little finger, or holding both a baseball and a golf ball in one hand without dropping them. The F-TAC Hand can do these things! If it picks up a cup full of water, it automatically adjusts its hold to keep the cup steady and prevent spills — reacting faster than you can blink.
The secret lies in its amazing touch sensors. Covering 70% of the hand’s surface, these tiny sensors — packed as densely (密集地) as 10,000 per square centimeter — let the hand feel textures, pressure, and any tiny movement of the object it’s holding. Crucially, these sensors are built right into the hand’s structure, so they don’t make the hand stiff or clumsy. A smart computer program uses this constant touch feedback to instantly decide the best way to grip different objects, just like our brains tell our hands what to do.
Beyond its amazing ability to mimic human touch, the F-TAC Hand also brings practical solutions to real-world problems in robotics. It’s inspired by how our own hands and nerves work. The F-TAC Hand isn’t just cool science; it has real uses. It could lead to much better prosthetic limbs, help robots perform delicate surgery, work safely in dangerous places like nuclear plants, or handle complex jobs in factories.
Made possible partly by China’s powerful “Peng Cheng Cloud Brain Ⅱ”, this “hand of touch intelligence” is a big step forward for China in robotics and AI. Experts believe it brings us closer to robots that can truly understand and interact with the physical world around them. The future of robots just got a lot more skillful!
32.What is TRUE about the F-TAC Hand when grasping objects
A.It can adjust its grip to prevent spills from a full cup of water.
B.It must use the entire hand to pick up a ping-pong ball.
C.It reacts more slowly than a human blink when picking up items.
D.It cannot grasp objects of different sizes at the same time.
33.What can we learn from the third paragraph
A.Each sensor covers an area of 10,000 square centimeters.
B.The sensors are integrated into the hand’s structure to keep it stiff.
C.The AI program makes decisions delayed based on touch feedback.
D.The AI program uses real-time touch feedback to control the grip.
34.What does the underlined phrase “mimic” in paragraph 4 probably mean
A.Imitate. B.Replace. C.Simplify. D.Enhance.
35.What is the main purpose of the author in writing this passage
A.To introduce the development history of robotic hands.
B.To compare the F-TAC Hand with other robotic hands.
C.To criticize the limitations of previous robotic hands.
D.To highlight the features and applications of the F-TAC Hand.

There is a growing trend in medicine: doctors are prescribing time in nature to their patients to address a wide variety of physical and mental health concerns. These “nature prescriptions (处方)” aren’t just feel-good recommendations. 36
Scott Kaiser, MD, a director of geriatric cognitive health at the Pacific Neuroscience Institute, is one of these doctors. “Nature has a profound impact on healthy aging and overall well-being,” he explains. “There are several factors in healthy aging—diet, exercise, mindfulness, community, creativity and a sense of purpose. 37 I can’t overstate how powerful nature can be as a healer.”
Here are some common ways of natural healing. “Sensory walks” are an easy way to get started. Dr. Kaiser advises walking mindfully through nature while focusing on all five senses, paying attention to what you can see, smell, hear, touch and even taste. “Leave your gadgets at home,” he adds, “so you can be undistracted and really experience it all.”
Another prescription gaining popularity is cold therapy. 38 Immerse yourself in water that feels uncomfortably cold and stay there for 30 seconds to a minute. Most people start with water that’s about 10℃ to 15℃, though some go colder as their tolerance increases.
39 Try simply walking for 15 minutes in the early morning. Sunlight exposure boosts vitamin D, crucial for overall health. And getting early morning sunlight in your eyes will help refresh you.
Other simple prescriptions include gardening, hiking, biking or swimming. And if active pursuits feel like too much, even just sitting outdoors on a park bench can help, as it may improve your immune system and lower the risk of cancer. 40 Nature prescriptions can also lower stress, depression and anxiety while improving cognitive function.
A.The benefits extend beyond physical health.
B.But doctors suggest that it requires gradual adaptation.
C.This practice involves exposing yourself to cold water.
D.You’ll immediately be happier, healthier and more productive.
E.If that sounds too intense, nature offers gentler alternatives, too.
F.Instead, they’re evidence-based interventions backed by science.
G.Being outdoors can provide access to all of these at the same time.

It was the summer of 2019, and I was part of a team of eight climbers attempting to reach the top of Mount Rainier in Washington State. We had been training for over a year, preparing for the physical and mental challenges of the climb. Our team, composed of experienced mountaineers and a few beginners like myself, had grown close during our training sessions. We relied on each other for support, encouragement, and motivation. If someone was struggling, the rest of us would step in to help, whether it was carrying extra sports equipment or offering words of encouragement.
The first two days of the climb went smoothly. We made good progress, reaching Camp Muir at 10,000 feet without any major issues. The weather was perfect, and our spirits were high. On the third day, we began our push for the peak. The plan was to start early in the morning, around 2 a.m., to take advantage of the colder, firmer snow. We roped up and began the climb, each of us focused on the task at hand.
As we approached Disappointment, Cleaver, a steep and dangerous section of the climb, the weather began to change. The wind picked up, and the temperature dropped significantly. We could barely see more than a few feet in front of us because of the dense fog, and the snow underfoot became unstable. Despite the challenging conditions, we carried on, determined to reach the peak.
Then, disaster struck. One of our team members, Sarah, lost her footing and slipped. The force of her fall pulled the rest of us off balance, and we all fell, sliding down the slope (斜坡). I felt a sharp pain in my leg as I hit a rock, and I knew immediately that something was wrong. The rest of the team quickly regained their footing and managed to stop our slide, but I was unable to stand.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;

【听力材料】And the next part of this talk is on the Panama Canal. It’s amazing how this one small section of a small country can be so important to the world.
The Panama Canal is an artificial waterway in the Central American country of Panama that connects the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean. It is only 82 kilometres long. If you go around South America by ship, then you need to travel another 15,000 kilometres. So the canal saves a lot of travel time. It takes around 8 to 10 hours to cross the canal.
The French started building the canal in 1881, but they couldn’t finish it. The project was started again in 1904 by the United States and the canal was finally finished in 21. For the rest of the 20th century, the United States controlled the canal, but gave control back to Panama in 2000.
Every year, around 40,000 ships come through the canal. These are mostly commercial ships. They transport goods for trade between Asia and America, or Europe. In 2016 the government of Panama made the canal bigger, so that now 99 per cent of ships can pass through it.
Let’s now turn to the role of the Panama Canal in the global economy...

Everyone comforted her, emphasizing that accidents happen. Mark radioed for help, but due to the poor weather conditions, the rescue team couldn’t reach us immediately. In the freezing cold, the team huddled around me, sharing their body heat to keep me warm.
The rescue team arrived finally. They carefully strapped me onto a stretcher and carried me down the mountain. The rest of the team followed closely behind, relieved that I was in professional hands. Back at the base camp, I received medical treatment. Although my leg was broken, I was filled with gratitude for my teammates.
