When I was a child I was often told what not to eat. “You don’t want to get fat” was on constant repeat throughout my childhood. It really messed up my relationship with food — something that took me years to overcome. Because of this, I’m careful not to connect what my kids weigh with their worth as people. I encourage my daughter to make healthy snack choices and often dissuade (劝阻) her from a second dessert. But one day when I heard her saying “I think I’m too fat,” my heart sank. It made me wonder if giving her advice on snacks was having an unintentionally negative impact.
According to Charlotte Markey, a professor of psychology, food is one of the rare subjects where, as parents, saying less is more. “There are so many things in parenting that are good to talk through, but I’m not convinced that food is one of them,” she says. “It just creates some worries and insecurities in kids that aren’t necessarily healthy.”
Instead, she recommends applying a well-known concept among nutrition experts called the “Division of Responsibility,” where parents provide a variety of mostly healthy foods to their kids at fixed times, and the kids themselves decide what and how much they want to consume — even if that means occasionally eating more cookies than carrots.
Allowing kids to eat what they want also exposes them to the natural consequences of their decisions. “When your child says, ‘My stomach hurts,’ you can say, ‘Well you had a lot of sugary foods and you might feel better if you made some other choices,’” says Markey. “Let them feel like they have some control over it.”
I’ve been trying out these strategies and I’ve found that when I’m less restrictive, they do make better decisions. “Feeding is a long game,” says Markey. “The food you have available makes a huge difference. Even if they don’t eat it, they’ re seeing it. And then all of a sudden it clicks.”
24.What can be inferred about the author from the first paragraph
A.She is upset by her kids’ weight. B.She is critical of the way she was fed.
C.She is interested in making food. D.She is particular about what she eats.
25.Which of the following would Markey disapprove of
A.Allowing kids to eat cookies occasionally. B.Offering various foods to kids at fixed times.
C.Explaining to kids the risks of taking snacks. D.Talking with kids about school at mealtimes.
26.What should kids do according to the “Division of Responsibility”
A.Make diet decisions on their own. B.Share their food with other kids.
C.Eat up what is provided for them. D.Help their parents do the dishes.
27.What does the author think of the strategies she has been following
A.Costly. B.Complex.
C.Workable. D.Contradictory.

The Mona Lisa is the famous Leonardo da Vinci painting of a woman with a mysterious smile. This week, the woman parted her lips to whisper an ancient secret.
Scientists using X-rays to examine the chemical structure of a small part of the painting discovered a technique Leonardo used in the work. An oil paint used for it was a special, new chemical mixture, which suggests that the Italian artist was in an experimental mood when he worked on the painting in the 16th century.
“He loved to experiment, and each of his paintings is completely different technically,” said Victor Gonzalez, a chemist who has studied the chemical element of several works by Leonardo and other artists. The researchers found a rare lead compound (铅化合物) — plumbonacrite, in Leonardo’s first layer of paint. The discovery proved that da Vinci most likely used lead oxide to thicken and help dry his paint. The paint in the study is about the thickness of a human hair, lying in the top right area of the painting.
The scientists looked into its atomic (原子的) structure using X-rays, moving particles at the speed of light, permitting researchers to look deeper into the paint structure. “Plumbonacrite is really a fingerprint of his recipe, as it’s the first time we can chemically confirm it,” Gonzalez said.
Rembrandt, the Dutch master, may have employed a similar blend in his 17th-century paintings. Gonzalez and fellow researchers have also detected plumbonacrite in his art. It’s believed that Leonardo used lead oxide powder, which has an orange color, to thicken his oil paint and speed up drying. “What you will get is an oil that has a very nice golden color,” Gonzalez said. “It flows more like honey.”
But the Mona Lisa — said by the Louvre to be a portrait (肖像) of Lisa Gherardini, the wife of a Florentine silk businessman — There’s more to her gaze than meets the eye. “What we are saying is just a little brick in the knowledge,” Gonzalez said.
28.What technique did da Vinci potentially use in the Mona Lisa
A.The employment of tailored X-rays. B.The application of a rare lead compound.
C.A special mixture of oil paints. D.The universal use of atomic structures.
29.What does the use of plumbonacrite suggest about Leonardo’s painting approach
A.Willingness to experiment. B.Giving priority to conventions.
C.Technically identical output. D.Concentration on paint drying.
30.What is Gonzalez’s attitude towards the use of lead oxide powder
A.Dismissive. B.Objective. C.Doubtful. D.Favorable.
31.What can we infer about the Mona Lisa from the last paragraph
A.It still holds secrets yet to be uncovered.
B.It echoes the realities of the worldly life.
C.It’s a perfect combination of old and new.
D.It serves as the key to understanding Leonardo.

Have you ever felt so stressed that you just sort of froze Your body goes still, you can’t feel much but, at the same time, your senses are working overtime. You know you must act soon; but it’s as if something is stopping you. This “freezing”, or tonic immobility in academic terms, is an adaptive defense response to stress or danger.
When we freeze, our heart rate drops and our blood pressure changes. Our pupils might become wider. A flood of hormones (荷尔蒙) spread quickly, readying us for action. It can all happen within seconds.
While fight-or-flight seems logical for survival, freezing appears counterproductive — potentially too much to handle, making us incapable of acting or making a decision. But is that really all that’s going on Not according to Prof Karin Roelofs, a neuroscientist who studies freezing at Radboud University.“Many people think that freezing is a kind of shutdown of the system,” she says.“What we actually find is that in threatening situations, freezing actually helps gain more information, prepare actions, and improve perception and decision-making.” Freezing acts like an emergency flow state: watchful, not petrified.
Importantly, this response can be trained. Roelofs highlights two groups controlling freezing: living statues, street performers maintaining extreme stillness and snipers (狙击手) requiring absolute stillness while making decisions. Lab research confirms this. A virtual reality shooting game showed players with stronger freezing responses performed better and decided faster. Freezing doesn’t slow responses. “Brain noise reduces. Perception increases. You make better decisions faster,” Roelofs clarifies.
But let’s say you’re not a sniper, or don’t spend your weekends as a living statue. What if you’re about to take an exam or lead a big business meeting Those situations involving social pressure, may not be life or death, but still can cause freezing. The key is to use this response through training, particularly focused breathing: maintain slow, rhythmic exhalation (有节奏的呼气). Instead of feeling out of control, you can master it and — sniper or not — take your best shot.
32.What happens in “freezing” according to the text
A.Awareness is lost.
B.The heart pounds.
C.Senses are sharper.
D.The breath quickens.
33.What does the underlined word “petrified” in Paragraph 3 probably mean
A.Confused. B.Panicked. C.Distressed. D.Occupied.
34.Why are living statues and snipers mentioned in Paragraph 4
A.To contrast response types.
B.To illustrate freezing causes.
C.To support response training.
D.To criticize stressful professions.
35.How should students manage exam freezing according to the text
A.Seek professional help.
B.Apply trained breathing.
C.Hold breath to stay still.
D.Make last-minute revisions.

Tips on How to Balance School Work with Your Hobbies
Many students find it challenging to balance school work with their personal hobbies since they have a lot of responsibilities to carry on their shoulders. Now I would like to suggest how you can prioritize both of them.
Create a routine
Develop a routine that involves self-care habits such as relaxation, exercise, or hobbies. 36 . This routine will surely help you to shift your mind from school stress. And it will provide you with a healthy lifestyle.
Set boundaries and take breaks
37 . I know school-related tasks are very important for your future, but what about your health Don’t stress out by doing a lot of work. After studying enough, consistently do self-care activities on breaks, for instance, eye exercises and journaling.
38
Maintaining a well-organized schedule is essential for balancing hobbies, schooling, and personal health. To keep track of tasks, due dates, and personal objectives, use planners or digital calendars. This time monitoring guarantees that you set aside time for hobbies and self-care and avoid last-minute hurry.
Practice mindfulness often
Mindfulness is very important for students since it helps their minds be peaceful and more focused. 39 .In order to happily balance academics and mentality, being calm, peaceful, and fully aware is necessary.
Know when to adjust
Most of the time, after they have planned, students tend to follow exactly the to-do list. 40 . However, when they do something that is not in the plan or it doesn’t turn out according to the plan, they have no motivation at all to continue doing it. While some days can call for more self-work to deal with stress, other days might call for more focus on schooling. Be adaptable and change your plans as necessary.

I must share a heart-warming experience. I cherished this week, both as a caring individual and a member of the community. I take the train, my main commuting (通勤) way, to work every morning from a train station near my house. I can get to the station quite easily as there is a way at the back of the station which provides a great shortcut. In summer, when it’s hot, I always try to rush through it because it can get quite smelly from all the garbage that people throw away.
It was one of those days that I was trying to rush through as usual when something made me stop for a moment. I saw the most unexpected and beautiful act by an old woman walking ahead of me with the help of a white stick. The old woman was quite short and thin, and had white hair. I remember that she was wearing a bright orange jacket and she was walking, assisted by a white cane. She was walking slowly as each step took some effort. I hadn’t particularly noticed her at first, until she stopped near a garbage bin.
She slowly laid her walking stick against the garbage bin and then leaned on it with her right hand. Then she bent down and reached for the garbage, but she clearly found it difficult and it took her a while. She picked up some garbage off the ground with her left hand and slowly straightened herself up again, all the while using the garbage bin to support herself. She threw the garbage inside the bin, dusted her trousers off and then reached for her walking cane again. She then gradually stood up straight and carried on walking. I was blown away to see this amazing old woman make such a painstaking effort to keep even a small part of the way clean! I haven't been able to stop thinking about that all day.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
