(二)宾语从句
一. 定义:在复合句中,由一个句子充当宾语,这个句子叫作宾语从句。
(1)that:引导陈述句作宾语。
that只起连接作用,无意义,在从句中不充当成分,因此常可省略。
Math is difficult.
My parents won’t come back until next week.
I know (that) math is difficult .
I know (that) my parents won’t come back until next week .
(2)if/whether:引导一般疑问句作宾语。
意为“是否”,在从句中不充当任何成分,但不可省略。
Is Mary a teacher
Can you speak Japanese well
Does Lily like physics
Has he gone to America on vacation
I wonder if/whether Mary is a teacher .
I wonder if/whether you can speak Japanese well .
I wonder if/whether Lily likes physics .
I wonder if/whether he has gone to America on vacation .
注意:只用whether,不用if引导的情况:
1) 在介词的后面
e.g. I’m thinking of whether we should go to see the film.
2) 与or not直接连用
e.g. I don’t know whether or not they can get there on time.
(3)特殊疑问词:引导特殊疑问句作宾语。
有各自的意义,在从句中充当相应的成分,不可省略。

含有宾语从句的复合句变为简单句 (to do 简化)
当宾语从句中的主语与主句的主语一致;
宾语从句中的主语与主句的间接宾语一致时,可用“特殊疑问词+动词不定式(短语)”对从句进行改写。如:
I really don’t know which book I should buy. =
I really don’t know which book to buy.
Can you tell me where I can get a dictionary =
Can you tell me where to get a dictionary
