When faced with the failure or difficulties, he didn't give up and chose to work hard to achieve his dream. For example, he failed in the entrance exam, but he chose to study harder for another year to achieve his dream. Moreover, because he was Jewish when Hilter came into power, the door of academic institution was closed to him. But after he succeeded in moving to America, he make great achievements in physics and mathematics.

He wrote a book called Ben Cao Gang Mu, which is a collection of Chinese herbs including over 2, 000 Chinese herbs with millions of characters. In order to finish the task, he visited mountains, called on ordinary people, tasted different kinds of herbs and even did experiments by himself. It took him 37 years to finish the task, and his book is considered to be a great contribution to the development of Chinese medicine.
